I guess you can gift the angel with Zedruu and watch everyone go after the opponent with it.
Haha, I was thinking the same thing. How best to give this to my opponent.

Yea, those are MTG Bars. What can I say, I am a dork
Maro has kept hinting about a mythic vanilla creature on his blog for a while, and he has also mentioned that he hasn't shown his preview card on his blog yet.
If they were to print a vanilla mythic, my bet would be on green.
The angel is fantastic. 4 damage to my opponent for the rest of the game where I already had 3 turns to burn them out means they'll be dead around turn 5 consistently.
YES my UR madness deck is going to be legit, thank you wizards.
that angel, ugh. I would love for someone to use that card against me. its so much worse than abyssal persecutor. lets leave the undercosted flyers with drawbacks with the demons shall we?
I guess the angle is good if you got blockers: it's a 4/5 hasty flyer for 4. But that controller damage clause... ouch. Hey, maybe you can attack once then donate her?

Well, ignoring Goyf's kinda vanillaness, then the next idea that comes to mind is an undercosted high power and toughness creature. Something like GGG with a 6/6 body. I would embrace that.
Yeah, this Angel is super good. It is an entirely manageable drawback and is ends games very quickly if unchecked. In before this is played in standard and half this thread eats their hat.

I want to start a petition to get the person or persons who designed Goldnight Castigator fired. This isn't funny anymore, nor is it tolerable. This is just simple-minded, limited thinking and outright stupidity. How often do we get to see a Mythic Rare Angel in Red? Not very often. This card could have done so much to establish the concept and precedent of "vengeful Angels" in Red, and it could have done a much better job at doing so. Instead, it gives you a 4/4.5 flyer with haste who doubles all damage dealt to you. I can't even anymore. How is this flavorful or meaningful in any way? What idiot looked at this card and allowed it to get printed? This set was going so well and then they do something like this and it just boggles the mind. Just look at Thunderbreak Regent. Couldn't they use a design similar to that one to create something powerful and playable, not something that makes you lose to every mildly creature-based deck?
*sigh*
And you'd probably call it lazy design if it was something good but not exciting. MTGS has started to become a parody of itself, to the point that I've even actively parodied it and no one noticed.
So, I'll bite. What should this have to make it better? Be a 4 power flying haste for 1RR? Not have the downside? There's a reason that MTGS isn't in charge of balancing cards.
People, this angel is designed to win within a turn or two after it is played. And 4 mana in a RDW is infinitely more playable than 5 mana for things like Stormbreath. When was the last time you saw a RDW with 20 lands hit 5 land count? Almost never.
This is bad in an aggro mirror, destroys control decks who have to spend their removal on your t1-3 creatures (and do no actual damage till late game), and helps finish off midrange. This will see maindeck play if aggro represents a small portion of the meta, guaranteed sideboard card. Not bad at all.
We get these types of cards all the time and most of them seem pretty interesting to build around. Folks build around them because the payoff seems incredible if you can find a way to do it.
I feel NO such desire to deck-build around this new Angel. It just seems completely awful.
I'll run an Angel with rather mediocre stat (Unless your name happens to be Sir Mix-a-Lot, maybe) and "Oh by the way, I just made your job twice as easy."
Hehe. Love the flavor of the angel. Almost the exact opposite of Gisela.

See, that red angel is the reason I like Magic. It's a pretty bad card. Like, it surprised me how bad it was while I was reading it, I kept thinking I was missing something or misreading something. Weirdly inappropriate stats on an all-downside mediocre beater? Uhh ok.
But rather than developing an ulcer over it, I'm legitimately excited to see what people do with it. Just because I can't think of anything doesn't mean that it can't be efficient in some deck somewhere, and I think mythic is an appropriate place for something this big and weird.
Best angel ever! I mean the Magali Villeneuve token of course
And yay for WB Human Cleric tokens. Teysa, Orzhov Scion loves these guys I like the vampire knights and human soldiers too. *Especially* the human soldiers for my Odric's Army deck.

If you were a more observant person, you could have noticed that I mentioned how to improve this card in a reply to another user. I would give it an option to give control of it to your opponent when it enters the battlefield so that it resembles effects like Furnace of Rath, but it would be one-sided for them in the exchange of a 4-powered flyer. You could still keep it if you wanted to, but you can also give it away, giving it a lot of flexibility and playability. This is quite flavorful as well as useable, since it basically has "two modes" of operation, one for each style of play you may encounter.
Stop assuming I'm one way or another simply because I critiqued a card. I used Thunderbreak Regent as an example, a card which is both flavorful, powerful and balanced. With a few tweaks and perhaps a thematic shift, it could be like that card, but with an Innistrad feel and flavor. This is a mythic rare angel which is supposed to portray the protectors of Innistrad going mad and corrupt. It's supposed to be a powerful, iconic card. It doesn't have to be fundamentally game-breaking to be exciting. Power has exciting value on its own. If this card was properly balanced but powerful and pushed to the point it should be, it would be one of the hallmarks of the set. Not something that inspires an almost universal groan on the part of the player base.
I haven't heard everyone complaining about this, just people like you, very loudly. So "almost universal groan" is a fallacy. The flavor is perfect, an angel that's supposed to protect you, the human, is making you easier to kill. I don't see how that's not a flavor homerun. Ability to give it away if you wanted to would also be too much for this card, and you'll see that when you lose to this card in mono red hyper agro decks.
The angel is kinda like a really really bizarre Jackal Pup, and sometimes you run Jackal Pups because they close out games before their liability catches up with them.
Whether it's mythic because it's considered an absolute bomb in Limited play or because WotC considers an inversion of Gisela's abilities to be gimmicky enough to warrant mythic status is beyond me, though.
