You only need to pay 7 mana to get a 4/2 with flying. WITH FLYING. That means most things CANNOT BLOCK IT. And you can use any type of mana. It's so flexible. Definitely going to be a staple in Vintage Workshop decks.
Nahiri's Machinations is the sort of card they don't make much of anymore (on-board tricks that make combat a nightmare for the other player). Definitely excited to try it out in draft. And hopefully with an Odric too!
Wait a second...is Nahiri holding her sword in her right hand? That's just wrong.

OT: Machinations is certainly an interesting card. Really screws with combat math. The gargoyle isn't that great. Would 3 to transform it have killed them?

"I hope to have such a death... lying in triumph atop the broken bodies of those who slew me..."
You don't call "dying to removal" if the removal is more expensive in resources than the creature. If you have to spend BG (Abrupt Decay), or W + basic land (PtE) to remove a 1G, that is not "dying to removal". Strictly speaking Goyf dies to removal, but actually your removal is dying to Goyf.
Flavor of Thraben Gargoyle is cool (surprised we didn't get a transforming gargoyle last set--- it seems like one of the most obvious things, and yet we didin't have it. Cool when they can still find stuff like that) but it's definitely a limited filler mana sink I think for now that may tie into possible future artifact synergies that we may get next block.
I guess Nahiri is actively leading the Innsmouth Gorton's Fisherman cultists that are using the cryptoliths for sacrifices which ties up that piece of plot I suppose. Which I guess is a logical conclusion. Just seems weird for her character I guess to me. I assume that makes her the Queen of Vengeance in Nephalia?

They didn't care that he was the savior of Fort Keff, the great hunter of Ondu, the champion of Kabira. To them, he was just another piece of flesh, a thing with life to be drained away.
MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.
So 2 of our 4 rewards were cards that were already officially previewed and the others are 2 unexciting uncommons? : /
Since I don't play constructed, uncommons and commons are exactly what excite me. The gargoyle looks fairly decent on defense early, and a fast clock late if it can get in. Nahiri's Machinations is an interesting board stall breaker, though it looks a bit too inefficient at face value.
Concept art is also pretty cool, though not really for me specifically. They do have to appeal to many demographics.
You would expect a millennia old vampire would remember that kind of thing...

If this format turns up to be Magic: Origins fast, Thraben Gargoyle is serviceable in limited. Slow decks would like the early defense that could be cashed in for a 4/2 flier late game. It's not an exciting card by any measures, but it's far from unplayable.
So i read the mothership articles today....it seems that in exchange for getting the most badass version of Sengir Vampire in many an age, they are just plain going to stop making Vampires that are based off of Sengir Vampire ''because that's the Slith mechanic''.
Wonderful. Classic Wizards. Of course they will always keep putting out amazing stuff, but good luck hoping for them to realize what the actual best things they've done were when it comes time for the remakes.
Classic Ravnica, Zendikar, Innistrad, and probably Theros will always be better than Return Blocks.
I am probably every color-combination it is possible to be, though it's really hard to figure out what it would mean to be 4-colored....it doesn't seem logical to be 4-colored without being 5-colored.

a 4 mana 4/2 flier at uncommon without any colourrestriction? Yep, 3 to transform would have killed it.

Actually it's better than that, since you can attack for 4 in the air on turn 3. This is why MTGS users are not in charge of manacosts.

but it won't be for lack of Wizards trying to ruin it by trying to fix something that wasn't even broken.
