It definately does look like it could be Marit Lage from the pictures. Of course, that doesn't mean we won't have lage and emrakul, assuming Lage is an eldrazi.
pls dont remind me,
Kind of bugs me that wizards didnt put a single sea creature card in bfz bloc considering kiora was popping them up left and right to fight the eldrazi. All we got from there was that blue spell Crush of Tentacles, which isn't even that great in constructed formats, and Kiora's emblem, which is hardly ever hit.
I'm happy Thing in the Ice was made cause it turns into a badass kraken, but still, I want good Sea Creatures in muh standard format,
Ugin is going to get really bad once all the fatties are colourless. I sold all mine. Sell sell sell!
He's going to be absolutely rotten. Hangarback walker has already nerfed him quite significantly. I reckon he'll be $3 junk within 2 months of rotation
I don't think that's Marit Lage in the art. Far too small. Innistrad will naturally have some traditional krakens, considering its Germanic stylistic influence superimposed with Gothic horror.
Card's art is sweet. I love it! Instant Speed Scourge of Fleets basically.
Would be cool if it was Marit Laige, who is also an eldrazi. It'd give us a reason to go back to dominaria.
Where did u read that ? About ML ?
That assertion is not proven and has no direct evidence. Marit Lage is a powerful, tentacley being capable of moving between planes, which is the extent of her known relationship to the Eldrazi.
Other than the token looking all tentacley, why is it people are thinking it's Marit Lage?
Marit Lage is an ancient powerful being associated with the sea and tides, capable of planar travel, and is known for inspiring cults. Her prior design was heavily inspired by Lovecraft, and there has been a Lovecraftian theme in this set so far. Finally, people want the story team to remember and use old nostalgia characters more.

Now about that tower...
Innistrad did not naturally have krakens. Beyond Fortress Crab, original Innistrad had shown very little of the sea and hinted at the hidden terrors from the deeps on the Nephalia related cards. The mere presence of something kraken-like in this card among others adds credence, not detraction, that Marit Lage is potentially involved - regardless of style influences. The checklist is adding up, and it's becoming a stronger educated guess every day.
That's a lovely art for a card with a great effect. We also get to see more notes from Tamiyo. Hopefully, this card and the next reveals will send the eldrazi conspiracy to the bottom of the sea. I'm pretty sure emrakul isn't associated with the ocean.

That's very interesting. I didn't know Marit Lage could travel the planes.
So, like, I would love if we got Marit Lage instead of Emrakul, just because I feel like that would be a fun twist since so many people were expecting Emrakul, and because after Battle Block I'm rather eldrazi'd out, frankly. But it didn't seem likely because the meat-moss in the art of stuff like Thraben Inspector looks an awful lot like Emrakul's handy work, plus mutating things is supposedly how Emrakul affects planes. And, if we're honest, from a narrative stand-point, Marit Lage was pretty obviously the Eldrazi before the Eldrazi were around, so they fill the same sort of space and play the same sort of role, making it not very likely that they'd be together in the same story. It wouldn't really make a sense for Wizards to have a set focusing on an entirely NEW be-tentacled inter-planar threat when we just spent an entire block focusing on the established ones. So I'd basically given up on the titular shadow hanging over Innistrad being Marit Lage.
...
And then I see this art.
And yeah, it could definitely be just some random totally normal sea monster in the art of this card and absolutely nothing special at all. And in fact it probably is exactly that because of all the reasons I list above. But deep in my heart of hearts, I can't help but want it to be Marit Lage.
I like the card as well and I'm hoping that they'll print the enemy tango/battle lands soon so that Izzet and Simic players can use this just as efficiently as Dimir and Azorious players.
I also am wondering if we'll see devotion return soon in a future set. Heck, I suppose the devotion mechanic could make sense on Innistrad with all the cultists stirring things up. Maybe it will make a small return in Eldrich Moon.

It's possible that they could errata Marit Lage into an Eldrazi, and the terrible truth Jace is discovering is that the three from Zendikar are not alone. The cryptoliths and the ring at the drownyard look like planar magic to me, Nahiri's knowledge of lithomancy and leylines, and her desire to "make Innistrad bleed" really sounds like she's trying to lure or summon an Eldrazi. I really hope it doesn't go that way, I'd like Marit Lage to be her old ice age self (but thawed).
Eh, Marit Lage isn't an Eldrazi, but the very fact that people are talking about Marit Lage being 'revealed' as being an Eldrazi all along shows why I don't want to see Marit Lage- it's too close to the Eldrazi we just had. If the previous block weren't BFZ, I'd be on board with that, but right after BFZ is very odd to then feature another Lovecraftian Eldrich plane-travelling super monster. My guess is what is happening on Innistrad is a planar specific threat, and the Nahiri/Sorin storyline is the main tie in to the ongoing interplanar story, Eldrazi/Marit Lage could tie into that, but not without taking up even more of the set's focus. And also, given this is WotC's most popular plane (apparently), this even more so.

Card looks to be a control staple perhaps.

Now this is a very plausible theory, I aggree with you, after seeing this artI'm not so sure about Emrakul anymore, the resemblance is too great, and what Thraben Inspector and other cards could definitely be some sort of infectious coral or whatever. Maybe Marit Lage is there and that's what Nahiri plans to use to lure Emrakul into Innistrad...setting up a playdate for some sweet tentacley Eldrazi love?
By the way, does anybody know how to link to the Marit Lage token? I can't find it anywhere in the database.
Can I just say that it will feel amazing to cast this eot turn 4 and untap to an emtpy board and cast a Jace, unraveler of secrets . I see a mono blue control deck maybe with a white or black splash for a dragonlord or their command. Especially with a scalable draw card in Epiphany at the drownyard.
aside from the fact that there is absolutely no evidence to imply marit lage is on innistrad, the thing in the waves in this art is far too small to be her. that is clearly an 8/8 or 9/9 kraken or octopus, not a 20/20 flying indestructible.
the card is sweet though, its going right into my kiora deck

Reanimate sucks cause it needs cards like Entomb to work.
