Innistrad did not naturally have krakens. Beyond Fortress Crab, original Innistrad had shown very little of the sea and hinted at the hidden terrors from the deeps on the Nephalia related cards. The mere presence of something kraken-like in this card among others adds credence, not detraction, that Marit Lage is potentially involved - regardless of style influences. The checklist is adding up, and it's becoming a stronger educated guess every day.
Do you mean the space for a double-faced land on second checklist?
Because we already have that card. Westvale Abbey.

I like it very much: a Scourge of the Fleets without body and at instant speed. Or, a one-sided, quite scalable Evacuation. Actually not so good comparisons, so this card definitely has a personality. I think I'm going to put it straight in my EDH kraken deck! An interesting thing is that it allows to bounce pesky middle/small creatures, leaving on the battlefield big monsters with ETB effects (like a Terastodon) with wich you want to deal in a different way.
The art is not that original, but very nice and in the wake of Whelming Wave and Stormtide Leviathan. It looks like the same poor coastal village was washed out over and over...
And those tentacles jut out from the trunk in a strange way, that I frankly remember just for Marit Lage. It would be really classy to see her return after such a long time!!!
It's not one-sided, it returns your creatures as well. It's similar to the Scourge, but it ain't a bodyless Scourge.
Wonder if it would be, if they made this a sorcery instead...

I loved Ætherspouts. I love love if this saw some play. Esper is probably the one deck that can afford to run this reliably by using Prairie Stream and Sunken Hollow.
After looking at a close up of the art from magicspoiler.com, what I took for eyes or maybe a fanged mouth turned out to be just accents to a wave. So it now looks like either a sideview or a shot of the beast coming at us tentacles first.
MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.
Ok for Standard. Worst thing about it is all the unimaginative people still clinging onto that dumb Marit Lage theory using this as more evidence.
Just as stupid as people claiming Liliana wouldn't be on Innistrad?
Yes. Just because Wizards found a way to shoehorn her back into Innistrad doesn't mean that not expecting her to show up due to her dealing with her only reason for originally going there the first time was a bad call.
It's not one-sided, it returns your creatures as well. It's similar to the Scourge, but it ain't a bodyless Scourge.
Oops! So my comparisons were really quite bad. The fact is, having "my" krakens with normally 7+ toughness in mind, I considered it if not one-sided, at least very asymmetrical, in that the weaker, earth-dwelling creatures of my opponents are more likely to be whisked away.

Not that checklist, a general checklist of evidence to support a reasoning for Marit Lage being the baddie in the block.

Yeah, it definitely has potential with krakens and leviathans Though in monoU EDH it's very likely to just sweep the whole board

Worst thing about it is all the unimaginative people still clinging onto that dumb Marit Lage theory using this as more evidence.
So, how is this dumb? There is a list of growing evidence to support a theory:
last time in Innistrad, there were very few cards even associated with the depths and water; and, now, there is a great focus in cards and lore on what lies beneath the water's surface and the moon. One could reason that the baddie lies below or in the moon.
the Nephalian secret sea worshiping does bear an allusion to the past cults worshiping ML in secret in older sets: Brine Shaman "The shamans of Marit Lage do her bidding in secret, but they do it gladly." — Halvor Arenson, Kjeldoran priest
Thing in the Ice features the use of Ice Counters for the first time since Coldsnap or Ice Age, the two other sets featuring Marit Lage in lore or being. This seems like a very deliberate use of a very specific kind of counter.
tying in the Gothic Horror and Lovecraftian tropes, the idea of a Cthulu-esque leviathan is strongly supported here with the eyeballs and defornmity in the arts - and that reality bending or mind warping is already a precedent for ML: Wrath of Marit Lage "Marit Lage lies frozen in a glacier's heart. Still her dreams take form in our world, stealing the heat from our souls." — Halvor Arenson, Kjeldoran priest
the Innistrad lore is showing characters being influenced by some larger presence, there is an impending sense in the world - not simply just from Avacyn's betrayal: Curse of Marit Lage "Our world has not felt her thundering steps in lifetimes, but Marit Lage's presence is still with us." —Halvor Arenson, Kjeldoran Priest
While we can agree or disagree, there is a growing list of evidence to support ML, but it's much harder to justify Emrakul.
The horrors of the deep motifs used so far don't really seem like Emrakul's M.O., but I wouldn't be surprised in the least if it was Merit Lage. I mean, it could still be another huge, ocean-dwelling monstrosity, but given that Merit Lage has sparked a lot of interest in players and her fate was left unresolved, it seems likely that they'd tap into Merit Lage than another similar entity. Also, according to the blurb we got from the artbook so far, it seems that whatever it is tormenting Innistrad, it's a threat to the entire Multiverse:
Terror falls from the skies on blood-spattered wings, and nameless horrors lurk in the shadows. These pages, lavishly illustrated with the award-winning art of Magic: The Gathering™, are your entry into a world beset by terrible evils on all sides and betrayed by the hope it held most dear. Tread lightly as you follow the heroic Planeswalkers of the Gatewatch as they investigate these dark mysteries, for the nightmare they will uncover is a threat to the whole Multiverse.
The mysteries of Innistrad—its peoples, provinces, and monsters—await your arrival. But be careful as you peer into the darkness, for you might find something staring back. [emphasis added]
You played JESUS?!?! I heard none of his guys stay in the graveyard, and once you think you have him beat he ALWAYS comes back to win within three turns. I like...WORSHIP him.

It's okay to have your pet theories, people, but please never state them like they're fact. That's how misinformation like this starts.

Agreed, ML and Eldrazi share similar space being ancient, interplanar beings - but this does not imply they are one and the same.
