Ormendahl, Prince of profanes
Legendary creature - Demon
(black)
Flying, lifelink, indestructible, haste
9/7
Indestructible is the main selling point here, although having to have 5 mana + this land + five creatures
And thank goodness for French preview, it gives me an excuse to learn French The name seems to be Abbey At The Eastern Valley or something. And story-wise, he replaces Grissebrand.
Pretty strong with lifelink and indestructible it will hit right away and ensure you dont die, even if you topdeck this land.
Having 5 creatures is challenging, but even for a more controllish deck this could be a real finisher, as it produces tokens aswell and can be transformed instant speed.
After the disappearance of Griselbrand, the Skirsdag cultists impatiently awaited another demon worth of their devotion. Ormendahl had not let them wait long.
Or something like that

So that's the double-faced land. No Marit Lage for the hopeful.
I like the flavor of a cult of heretics assembling in an abbey and eventually summoning this big evil thing. Five creatures is a lot, but this card has many moving parts that can interact with other effects, so it remains to see how strong this card can be as a finisher. It certainly is an acceptable card as a colorless repeatable token maker in a land slot. Worst case it still makes mana.
Haste is cool, so late in the game with the right setup you can drop the land and turn it into an indestructible attacking demon immediately.
Another nice etail: The land is not legendary, so you can put a legendary Demon into your deck without the second or even third card being dead once you have your first transformed copy.
Does this play well with Eldrazi Scions, too? It certainly makes you wonder.
Edit: can we use Ormendahl (and Withengar) as commanders? If so, what would be their color identity?
I do not know the official ruling on whether you could use them as commander in the first place (though I sure hope so); but if you can use them, their color identity would take both sides into account (so black for both of them).
Reference: New Avacyn is confirmed as having red-white color identity despite being red only on the back-face. And IIRC that is also based on the restrictions DFCs obey in the 99.

yes you can sac scions as they are creatures, a deck with a high number of 1 and 2 drop creatures and you could transform this on turn 5 in a ramp deck even sooner if you really wanted too. could be fun with odric as well this alone gives all the rest your creatures flying, life link, indestructible, and haste every attack phase. also he can not be counterd as it starts as a land but yes yes, it dies to removal, but everything dies to the right kind of removal....
I'm mad at how careful they're being with the power level of the past couple of magic sets. This should generate two to three 1/1 Clerics or cost 1 and tap to make a 1/1.

Gonna YOLO this in a defender deck with that one spell that deals damage to creatures and players when target creature is damaged as a one sided board wipe.

RIP Batman guy. I hope somebody picks up the slack now that you are gone. Sick children need their Batman.
Am I missing something or is this card unbelievably sweet with secure the wastes? Just make a bunch of tokens eot, and in your next main, sac them and attack with the demon. Even if it won't see play, cool card.
I'm SO SICK of the "too strong for Standard" argument. It's the new "Dies to removal". We can have a two mana 4/4 with a zillion abilities, but we can't just have Accumulated Knowledge. Makes sense.
Obiously. I was more wondering whether that synergy is worth it over just using the Scions' inherent mana ability to cast something. The fact that a land circumvents counterspells is a good argument though.
yes yes, it dies to removal, but everything dies to the right kind of removal....
And indestructible helps with quite a few of them.

Planar Chaos was not a mistake neither was it random. You might want to look at it again.

Yeah uh I don't think you realize quite how broken that would be. The cheapest drawback-less land that puts tokens onto the battlefield costs 4 mana to activate (Vitu-Ghazi, the City Tree and Springjack Pasture) and those that only cost two mana are either legendary (Kher Keep) or require a sacrifice beforehand (Kjeldoran Outpost) and the one at three mana requires you to exile a creature from your grave (Moorland Haunt). If you want multiple tokens for 5 mana, you probably going to have to sac the land. Here, for saccing the land (and the low price of 5 creatures) you get a 9/7 flying hasty lifelinking indestructible beatstick.
Repeatable token producers are strong. They require a careful balance. Something a lot of people would rather see broken, it seems.

My Commander decks:
Chandra, Torch of Defiance - Oops! All Chandras.
Prime Speaker Zegana - Draw for Power.
Pir & Toothy - Counterpalooza.
Arcades, the Strategist - Another Brick in the Wall.
Zacama, Primal Calamity - Calamity of Double Mana.
Edgar Markov - Vampires Don't Die.
Child of Alara - Dreamcrusher.
Mazirek EDH enjoys this, nothing like my whole team getting 5 counters, Ormendahl being a 14/12 off the bat.
This card is quite good, wouldn't doubt this being in control decks in Standard. When your land is your win condition it definitely leaves space for other removal, although getting those 5 creatures will be a little tough to achieve.
That token producing ability really should cost like 3-4 mana.
Anyway we could go abzhan eldrazi with this.
bunch of BG eldrazi scions and i guess that new odric would be nice with a few of the low end offensive eldrazi for alterante win cons.

Card seems to work particular well with Life from the Loam, Lingering Souls and Worm harvest, maybe also add Knight of the Reliquary to search lands and you got yourself a WGB deck to work with.
Seems quite useful at least and its splashy and big to be cool enough to win with.
