I´m assuming that when you return Persistent Nightmare to your hand that on your hand it becomes Startled Awake again right?
Yep. Going to be super bomby at the prerlease, hope I get a few.

The "Crazy One", playing casual magic and occasionally dipping his toes into regular play since 1994.
Currently focusing on Pre-Modern (Mono-Black Discard Control) and Modern (Azorious Control, Temur Rhinos).
Find me at the Wizard's Tower in Ottawa every second Saturday afternoons.
As a Modern player, all but the new vindicate are completely trash cards, goshh
Pretty much, yeah. I wouldn't even play the rest of this stuff in my goony casual decks. But no, "BLARGLARGL DRIPPING WITH FLAVOR" No. Stop. Fried chicken is "dripping with flavor" (should be anyway), Innistrad is derivative horror movie tropes with the occasional cool card.
...especially one that already has evasion and can pick up a Sword of Fire and Ice or Body and Mind or such and get some extra work done if need be.
Careful throwing the word 'evasion' on to this thing. If you're playing EDH (and it kinda sounds like you are), firstly, this thing gets exiled the second it hits the board. If it doesn't, sure it'll evade all the 2/2s and higher on the board. But you toss a Sword on one of these, and I guarantee it no longer has 'evasion'. He's not doing as much 'work' for you as you think.

And how many cards (on average) out of one set end up heavily played in Modern nowadays? Not counting that Eldrazi madness (see what I did there?), which should (and soon will) be stopped. I would say one, maybe one and a half. Yes, it's no original Innistrad, where we had Delver, LotV and Snapcaster, but we haven't seen the whole spoiler either, so...
And, btw, I am looking forward to play the better Ghostway in my Chord deck in Modern. And, you know, Thing in the Ice could become a Thing in Modern, too
I like how R&D designed transform cards in SOI not only to cross colors upon transformation, but also card type. I was hoping they would introduce a way to turn an instant or sorcery card into another card type, and they made one!

I hope that you arent the ones crying over the overpowered new eldrazis printed a couple of months ago lol
In the regular the vampire turns into mist to bypass the defences and kill the man in the house, on the promo the vampire turns into mist to avoid death by arrow to the heart.
They managed to show both main purposes of the transformation. I find it pretty sweet
Yeah I noticed that too. These Vampire promos are so sweet and I want them all for a pimped Madness deck.

Is a 6 mana exile wrath more useful than having 5 mana wraths?
Will a mill deck be viable? 13 cards milled for 4 mana does seem like a decent rate.
I'm having a hard time seeing these mythics as powerful players in a new standard format myself.
Cool cards though, dripping with flavor.
Being able to return it to the battlefield transformed from the yard makes it insane, plus a chance to put it back into your hand, it can be recurring mill 13...

I think it has more utility in a dredge shell, a mill-able creature is nothing to scoff at, no where near as good as narcomoeba but it could be interesting.
I don't know why people are looking down on Descend Upon the Sinful as much as they are. It looks poised to be a control staple in standard, I mean, that's exactly what other cards of the same variety have been like. Virtually every wrath printed sees more than a little play. Keep in Mind Languish will still be here for a while as the early game sweeper to compliment, where this will take care of big Eldrazi and such while providing a win con. If they try to go under Descend with weenies they get wrecked by Languish, they try to go over Languish with big resilient creatures they get hit by Descend. The exile is probably going to make Descend better than Planar Outburst because of grave decks and Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger. Considering then Anguished Unmaking, Declaration in Stone, Grasp of Darkness, Remorseless Punishment, Flaying Tendrils, Wasteland Strangler, Ob Nixilis, Reignited, Stasis Snare, and Ruinous Path and that sounds like the making of a good control deck.
These cards are crap, I'm beyond sad they ruined Innistrad and Zendikar.
It's a shame Wizards of the Cost have a patient on the Trading card game,I'm sure most of us here could design a much better set. I just want a fun game to play with many constructed/themed options. Magic was that, but now it isn't =/

Wow...just wow... After reading your post, i'm incredibly glad wizards has the patent and keep making great sets like this instead of the crap you would probably make that would kill the game.
Y'know, Startled Awake isn't all that bad a finisher for control. Gets the job done in just a few turns in an extremely difficult-to-interact-with way.
And Persistent Nightmare, in addition to making me think Kazoo Kid, is creepy. Also, I keep seeing Recurring Nightmare in its place until I do the double-take.

90%+ of cards unplayable = great? Right.. I dont think anyone can reasonably claim these sets are anything close to good.
And no, they don't just have the patent for MTG, they have it for all trading card games o.o
Ever wonder why you don't see that many of them(Or exactly 'none' others from America?)? =X

In most sets, there's only 3-5 modern cards in 200+. Don't be pessimistic that half of the mythics aren't modern all-stars, they weren't meant to be.

I don't know about you, but I have seen many different trading card games in my day (YuGiOh, Pokemon, Star Wars etc.). Mind you, they weren't as popular as Magic, but still.
And I think it's MUCH too early to say that 90% of the cards are unplayable (in what kind of format anyway?).

Aquamoeba was playable last time it was in standard. Though that was like 12 years ago (Holy crap I'm old). If Madness is a thing I imagine it's color-shifted slightly-worse brother will see play also.
I don't know exactly why, but I LOVE Startled Awake // Persistent Nightmare and Sinister Concoction. The latter is brilliant for flavor: give up 1 of everything to nuke a critter! (To say nothing about the delirium enable, omai)
