Remember when I said that the characteristics of the face that's up are all that matter? That wasn't quite accurate. Under the new rules, the converted mana cost of the back face of a DFC is based on the mana cost of the front face.
The two double faced cards are fantastic. Are you kidding? Indestructible, Hexproof? That vampire is going to be impossible to kill (edit effects only way).
Thing in Ice is sweet, though I was expecting a sasquatch kind of character, but me love some kraken horrors. The Wurm is also insane if you can enable delirium consistently. Way to go SOI, keep smacking BFZ's ass to show how a return set should be.

Would you like to read Commander stories? Check my latest stories, coming from Lorwyn and Innistrad: Ghoulcaller Gisa and Doran, The Siege Tower! If you like my writing, ask me to write something for your commander as well!
I must admit, this set looks better than any other standard set in quite a while.
The mechanics are fun, the themes are fun and this opens up a lot of new brews for modern.
A white crazy fallen angel.
A new artifact enabler that puts draw power into play.
A fix to the previous iteration of transform and DFC rulings.
I wonder if they will print another GY hoser like RiP.
L-O-V-E Thing in the Ice. Going to be a 4-of in any control deck that materializes after rotation.
Yeah, am I stupid in thinking that thing could be Legacy playable? How hard is it to cast 4 instants or sorceries in a blue deck? Then get a 7/8 for your trouble?

This is what BFZ lacked.Imagination and creativity. These cards might not see play but they make you excited to try because they are cool and interesting.
Thing in the Ice is awesome. Seems pretty pushed. I like the flavor implications of brainstorming a couple of times, pondering a couple of times, and then a giant kraken comes out of its slumbering ice.
This set is really strong. Here we get a solid green 4-drop, a bit too cute Madness-Enabler-Flip-Vampire, a mana rock that consistently draws cards in the late game and Thing in the Ice, which I can see being played in Standard, Modern and Legacy. This card is crazy good. 4 toughness, so out of Bolt range? Check. A wall in spell heavy decks against early aggression? Check. Reasonable flip trigger? Check. Value when flipped? Check. Finisher in the late game? Check. This card does it all. Seriously!
And finally after a long time a good non-creature madness spell: Just the Wind. A simple bounce spell is always solid. I'm waiting for more to come.
Now THIS is how you do a return set. The younger me who was so giddy about the first Innistrad has nothing but praise for this return. Cards are oozing with flavor and the power level looks to be on par so far to the previous Innistrad.
Honestly, I'm most excited about trying to make a combo-control deck in Standard for Thing In The Ice + Jace + cheap Madness spells *cough*Just The Wind; Fiery Temper*cough* to control the board state.
Thank you developers for not screwing up Innistrad so far, like you screwed up Zendikar.
The Videos have cards two Hinterland logger 1G at beginning of last upkeep if no spells were cast last turn transform it. Timber Shredder 4/2 trample at beginning of upkeep if two or more spells were cast transform
Thing in the Ice is, as people have said, quite amazing and I agree possibly Legacy playable. As just a 7/8 it would be good...but toss on the Evacuation effect on flip? Insanity.
Elusive Tormentor is also really, really good. Mana-intensive but nicely fills the Aetherling role in standard of a powerful Black finisher that is extremely difficult to kill, block, or generally interact with.
Just the Wind is a flavor home-run. Warped Landscape seems really, really good for budget commander lists - the ability to generate mana on its own and EtB untapped is a huge deal compared to Evolving Wilds. Thraben Inquisitor is a solid dude compared to, say, Elvish Visionary. Just lots of really, really solid cards with both high flavor and overall better-feeling (or at least more obvious) power than almost anything in BfZ block. Hype train: full speed ahead!

I am also oddly in love with Investigate We already have two decent low drop creatures that produce Investigate tokens. White weenie with draw power sounds kind of fun
But Werewolves will forever be in my heart and the two we got spoiled already are not too bad, and decently costed.

Yea, those are MTG Bars. What can I say, I am a dork
Damn, the rest of this set could be vanilla Grizzly Bears and it STILL would be miles ahead of any set since the original Innistrad. Everything is dripping with flavor and fun.
The insidious mist card may just be the best designed card in the history of magic. So perfect in so many ways. I even love how it changes from black to blue depending on its state.
Note the DFC checklist. This confirms that there are indeed two checklists, one for commons/uncommons and one for rares/mythic rares. That's great information in itself. The DFC revealed today are all incredibly flavorful, and fresh. Love them.
okay I want to be skeptical about eldrazi being on innistrad but that eye on magnifying glass! this set is going to be awesome whether or not emrakul is around. I've been brushing up on my lovecraft and these cards win on so many levels. just finished reading 'at the mountains of madness' and I get treated to thing in the ice?? this is awesome.

Thing in the Ice is fantastic.
Also, check out the number on the checklist card.

Read my other stories as well (some ongoing):
Reaper King (a horror story), Kaalia of the Vast (an origin story), Sequels for Innistrad (Alternative sequels for Inn), Grey Areas (Odric's fanfic), Royal Succession (goblins),The Tracker's Message (eldrazi on Innistrad) and Ugin and his Eye (the end of OGW).

AND bounce all other non-Horror creatures??
Thing in the Ice is so far my favourite card.Sutch a cool card.
This is what BFZ lacked.Imagination and creativity. These cards might not see play but they make you excited to try because they are cool and interesting.
Also, Warped Landscape pretty much confirms Nahiri is the one behind those liths.
Between those two, Avacyn, and the Spanish Inquisition already spoiled, Werewolves might be the LEAST interesting DFC flavors in the set.
And finally after a long time a good non-creature madness spell: Just the Wind. A simple bounce spell is always solid. I'm waiting for more to come.
The packaging was showed, too. No Angry Nahiri this set I'm guessing. Maybe a redeemed mono-W Nahiri next set? :)))))
