Gerrard Capashen - how many EXPANSIONS revolved around him? More than anyone (excluding Urza) Momir Vig - going with the crowd call on the art.
Nicol Bolas - Has to be. I'd prefer the Elder Dragon Legend, but would understand the Planeswalker too. Empress Galina - She's actually been in more than Just Invasion... Karn, Silver Golem (doubt they'd do 'walker Karn) Mirari - because this is what Memnarch used to be
Ashling, the something
Heliod because you know it. Jaya Ballard, Task Mage best flavor texts make for memorable lore. Temporal Cascade (or some time spell) Conflux Urza's Guilt/Urza's Rage - because not enough people know that Blind Seer is the closest Urza ever got to having his own Non-Vanguard Card.
and Marit Lage Token, because Kaldra...wasn't really too important in the long run.
Kaldra set + token is unlikely, but if this is about important points in Magic's history (lore-wise and game wise), the three pieces do fit:
Sword - Dawn of equipment cards.
Shield - First card to mention a card not yet printed.
Helm - First card after Stangg to create a legendary token.
However, doing the kaldra set and token is 4 cards out of 16 gone right there.
Whereas Dark Depths / Marit Lage is more lore-embedded (Kaldra just came and went), and is only two cards. The land covers lore, the token covers biggest-printed-creature.
Kaldra apears moments before the Fifth sun rises.
After Memnarch seizes control over Kaldra and turns hin against Glissa Sunseeker and her friends( Bosh, Iron Golem, n Slobad, Goblin Tinkerer). Bosh got killed, while Glissa fled. The Radix shoot as the fifth sun rose killing Kaldra and saving Glissa in the process. This gave "birth" to the fifth sun soo we could have green aligned new Phyrexians. And some events in fifth dawn
Only saying this because I haven't seen it mentioned yet, and with Momir Vig there's a possibility.
What if the stories they're talking about more mean alternate formats? Perhaps we'd see the elder dragons. I'm mostly a commander player and don't know a lot of formats, but seems like a possibility.
Both otherwise I'm sticking with the villain theory.
Have you seen his price lately?
Especially the foil?
Given how popular he is as a Commander, I'd say there's a *very* good chance that art is for his creature card.
Last I checked he was around 8 for non foil thats a far cry from his 3-5 of years past, but not a price that makes him worth printing over other characters that hold more lore.... The art doesn't look much like a creature card to me, the action makes it look like an enchantment.... if not for being on the reserved list it would make some decent Survival of the Fittest art....

Delve deeper into the events that shaped the Multiverse—and show your opponents that those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it! This limited-edition set includes cards from throughout Magic's history that are renowned for both their power and the stories behind them. Surprise your foes with blasts from the past they'll have to see to believe.
To be fair, even though the avatar itself only lasted a minute, Kaldra still had a big impact on the story. The quest for his gear drove the plot of the second book, and Memnarch turning him on Glissa is what caused her to call the green sun.
How is it that so many completely failed to read either the announcement page or any of the explanations/discussions in this very thread? That's not the kind of lore they're talking about. They either mean the storyline, or lore about the game itself.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.
In the same way, we could see Nicol Bolas (EDH, Elder Dragon Highlander was named after him)
or Two-Headed Giant of Foriys (the reason for 2HG, Two-Headed Giant)
I'm kind of doubtful on Marit Lage being the token, if only because there is frustratingly little lore out there about her. It wouldn't make sense to have a token character in FTV: Lore, when they had no impact on the story, are basically only referenced by the names of a handful of cards (some fairly abstract ones at that), and to this day we still don't even know exactly what she is. Kaldra at least did something in the books, and has a token that's never had a physical printing.

I mentioned before, but the more I think about it, the more a Nahiri, the Lithomancer reprint seems likely. In current lore, she's easily one of the most important characters recently introduced, she has a prominent role in Shadows Over Innistrad and WotC always likes to use FtV as a way to reprint cards that never have been foils. Her Ultimate also makes a Token Equipment, which could be the extra Token card. A Planeswalker card seems very likely, but I'm not putting my bets on anyone that's not Karn or Bolas, and between Conflux and Bolas I'd say Conflux is sadly more likely.
Now, I'm sure that the Commander line and the fact she was the cover card for her own product would be a setback for a reprint, but what do you guys think?
Yeah, but Kaldra would take up a fifth of the set. It would be cool for a commander deck, though. Dark Depths is like Progenitus in that it can't really go anywhere besides FTV or a Masters booster since you can't really play it effectively most of the time. You'd either need 30 spare mana or a card that knocks all the counters off it. I also really don't see cards like Mirari in the set. It's already been in and we haven't seen a card in more than one FTV yet. I also wonder how you would stick the weatherlight crew in. I can't think of any good cards and with the exception of FTV dragons, the choices are relatively strong cards even if they aren't super valuable. I mean really, most of the FTV "bad" cards were played in standard. That usually means they were pushed as hell even if they aren't relevant in eternal/modern/commander/casual.

The helm and token would probably be enough. There's no requirement that they have every card needed to make it work.
As for the weatherlight crew, unfortunately, they're a little limited there for various reasons. Gerrard Capashen - Reprinted a few tines. Iconic, but very underwhelming as a card, might be ok with new art. Captain Sisay - In FTV Legends Karn, Silver Golem - Reserve list Orim, Samite Healer - Reserve list Ertai, Wizard Adept - Reserve list Crovax the Cursed - Reserve list Mirri, Cat Warrior - Last printed in 10th ed. A viable candidate, if unexciting. Starke of Rath - Possible, but not exactly a great weatherlight crew representative Hanna, Ship's Navigator - Another viable candidate. Would be nice if it had the Promo art. Tahngarth, Talruum Hero - Never been reprinted in any form. If it had the alternate art, I wouldn't complain. Squee, Goblin Nabob - Possible, but was reprinted in MM1
My money's on Gerrard or Tahngarth.

I got this feeling we are going to see a Liliana of the Veil Reprint and an Azusa, Lost but Seeking reprint, which will make the entire FoTV: Lore set explode in price. I'll probably try preordering if they honor the 50 usd MSRP.

So yeah, I'm just making the simplest assumption here that this FtV is all about major story characters and events. We'll likely see some Weatherlight representatives here, particularly Hanna, Ship's Navigator and Squee, Goblin Nabob. Ertai, the Corrupted is a possibility as well.

MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.

Helm is the least cool member of the cycle, though, and it would be really cool for a commander deck. It's not much different than common equipments other than it makes a 4/4 under select circumstances.
Maybe a noncreature card would be better for the weatherlight saga, though. Those choices are pretty bad and would often be limited commons/uncommons nowdays. Seriously, even Urza's Rage would be better. It's not super strong but 10 damage is pretty big.
Hanna, Ship's Navigator would be an amazing card to reprint in the set. It's a pitty poor Ertai, Wizard Adept is on that confounded reserve list that shouldn't exist, but they can get around it by printing a new Ertai card in commander or some other product as well. His ability was never game breaking and he's one of the better legendary creatures that are lurking in legacy. They could always reprint Ertai, The corrupted, but he just lacks the coolness factor.
