Does the tower half of the set symbol hint at Reliquary Tower? I know the power level/tournament play might not be there, but the flavor of lore certainly is.
Conflux: One of the most important events in current M:tG history decipted in a card, I'd be surprised if Conflux wasn't reprinted. Kinda disappointing as far as cards goes, but I'd love to see the card with some new art. Phyrexian Arena: And this one is one of the most important events in old M:tG history in a card, so I'd say this one is also a no-brainer. Also, it's always a popular reprint. Vindicate: Somewhat a bit of wishful thinking, but hey, always a fun, fan-favorite card, so why not? Crux of Fate: Kinda recent for a reprint, but one of the most impressive cards in M:tG lorewise. Also a pretty cool, playable card. I'd say it's likely. Deicide/Hero's Downfall: I'm expecting something out of Theros, as it had a pretty popular storyline, and it's either Deicide or Hero's Downfall. As mentioned above, Hero's Downfall with new art representing Elspeth's death would be pretty sweet. Nahiri, the Lithomancer: Now here's one weird guess. She's very important in M:tG's lore (esp. SoI) and has no foils, which makes her very desireable for a reprint. However, she's also the cover card for her own Commander deck and that unique Commander line makes her unlikely, so who knows? Would also explain the extra Token card as well. Legacy Weapon: I'd say it's a given. Helvault: We're revisiting Innistrad, so a Innistrad card would make sense. Helvault is the most likely lore-wise. Jaya Ballard, Task Mage: If we're talking story, hard not to talk about the fan favorite, esp. since they're bringing her back in Chandra's storyline. Also, I really can't think of many cool Red lore-related cards.
I'm not sure about Dark Depths, as far as I know Coldsnap wasn't exactly a hugely popular set, so if their focus is doing it for the lore, it seems somewhat unlikely. I wouldn't mind a reprint, mind you, but I'm not too confident.
Probably just a bunch of villains, since Magic Origins was about the heroes. Nice way to give a small salute, though. If so, Bolas is definitely in. Marit Lage would make sense as the token. Would Heliod be a villain, or would it be Xenagos? Both are a bit treacherous.
I want an alternate art Heliod painted by Terese Nielsen.
If I remember correctly most of the ftv products included a card from the fall set, not the spring. So if Marit Lage were a going to be a villain in a set, it would be the fall set. (The two off the top of my head that didn't were ftv 20 and ftv exiled.)
half of the from the vault products (Anhilation, Realms, Angels, Legends didn't have).
But i guess they could include one from the block after return to inistrad, giving a spoiler of the next story.
Tbh, since the themes recently haven't warranted inclusion of new cards it is unlikely that will happen in this set. What would be hilarious is if all cards in the set made lore/knowledge, etc.. counters or were sages/librarians. (Orcish librarian reprint anyone?)
The policy has changed since then. They wouldn't put Mox Diamond or any reserved card in a FTV today. Google is your friend.
Oops. Absolutely forgot it's on the list.
Actually, could somebody give me a short version of how did WotC justify reprinting of Mox Diamond in FTV?
Originally reserve list did not include premium reprints:
2010 revision[edit | edit source]
The original policy only applied to non-premium cards, meaning that Reserved cards could still be reprinted as a premium-exclusive card (and quite a number of cards had been reprinted such way). Starting in 2011, no cards on the reserved list would be printed in either premium or non-premium form.

Short version: They decided that it should be okay to print foil only versions of reserved cards, such as face cards for Duel Deck sets, Judge promos and FTV cards, then there was a certain amount of controversy about it, which caused them to wuss out and change the reserved list policy to not allow any tournament legal reprints at all. The Mox Diamond reprint happened before that policy change, just like Phyrexian Negator, Karn, Silver Golem and a small handful of other cards.
This was my first thought as well. I'm 99% positive they are not talking about lore within the MTG universe; they are talking about lore concerning the game itself. I would also put Kai's topdecked Morphling into that category.
I would also think that cards like Waylay (the card whose errata started the Casual Player's Alliance), Floral Spuzzem (the only card that references itself as making a decision), Memory Jar (the only card to get Emergency banned), Cyclopean Tomb (printed without a mana cost in Alpha), etc. might also have a place alongside cards that are "famous" due to their belonging to some Pro Tour lore. Channel might also be in that category, not only as one of the first cards to ever get banned but as part of the most infamous 2-card combo in Magic.
You could also get into the lore behind some of the artwork such as with Unholy Strength (and the infamous removal of the background Pentagram in the 4th Edition art), Olivia Voldaren (and the even more infamous added leg), or Uktabi Orangutan (and the even more infamous sex monkeys). Alas most of these either wouldn't be very interesting to reprint or make allusions that aren't necessarily proper for a product that will probably be labeled for kids 13+...
Of course, the stupid Reserved List is going to make printing some of these impossible (including Morphling, Memory Jar, Cyclopean Tomb, Morphling...), so who knows where they will really go with this. I would think that the celebration of top Magical moments in Pro Tour history makes the most sense.

I disagree, as most of the tournament stories were handled with FTV:20. They even did a whole article on why they picked each card for each year, and it was the impact the card had that year in a tournament setting.
I'm not really up on Magic lore, but That Which Was Taken seems like it could be a choice? Not a very exciting one, but we know these things aren't all gems.
I see a lot of people mentioning Phyrexian Arena. That would be my biggest hope until I think of something better! Really need a foil copy for one of my EDH decks. Some more Karn Liberateds would be nice. >_>
Well, looks like at least one of the supplemental products we have this year will have next to zero play value.
Oh well. With everything coming this year, I wasn't expecting terribly much, and I never buy FTV anyway. Here's my hopes to being proven wrong, though.
I expect this to be the bastard son of FTV:Legends and FTV:20, and not be as good as either judging by how little noise they made about the announcement.

Another summer release, cool, way to compete with your own products wizards. Maybe space some ***** out next year.
Art kinda looks like momir vig. Theme for this product feels uninspired and lame. When the cards tell a story each set this might as well say ftv: cards.
I suppose they could do cards that depict major plot points, like pernicious deed, vindicate, obliterate and uh... stuff?
That art makes me sad because I know it wont actually be Momir Vig.....:crying:
Have you seen his price lately?
Especially the foil?
Given how popular he is as a Commander, I'd say there's a *very* good chance that art is for his creature card.
Momir Vig, Simic Visionary

Funny thing is, in light of my recent statement on this product not having value, a friend of mine joked they should include Tibalt, so I responded they could include Nicol and Emrakul for both more value and storyline relevance than that. It looks like others have realized the same.
Just posting to state the coincidence of that. Obvious but pretty funny.
Vindicate is definitely what I'd like to see most in this, but it would need to use the original art. Pernicious Deed also fits the theme, but isn't anywhere near as needed after Conspiracy.
Legacy Weapon with new border + old art is something I could really get behind.
Liliana of the Veil isn't entirely out of place here, but would be very surprising.
