The flavor and art on this is sweet. If this means Avacyn is going full inquisition, I totally called it. I just wonder how Nahiri factors into all of this.

Chances are that this was Griselbrand's plan along. When Avacyn got trapped in the vault she might have been corrupted/infused with black mana, and since all her angels are linked to her............well looks like the entire system just got rekted.
IIRC, it has been sort of hinted that there have been angels before Avacyn came along. So I don't think it's a Razia kind of thing.
Angels been having it rough lately. First Angels in Zendikar were getting crushed Grip of Desolation and still have their Halos in their eyes (except or Linvala... but her new version sucks even thematically. Now Angels are being hunted because they gone cray cray. The art and flavor text is a homerun for me but it does leave me sad that it seems like it is something the humans have to do in order to survive.
I've been telling this for quite a while, for how almighty Magic wants to portray their angels, thdy always get the tragic treatment... I thought Avacyn was to break this. But welp...

The sac makes this very likely to be real. It's a targeted answer to Dragonlord Ojutai and FRF Silumgar. In fact, this is the Tears of Valakut excerpt from the OGW M-Files article:
"ID 4/23/2015: New card to kill Dragons. Creative approves match to art.
KEN 5/11/2015: :/
DEL 5/14/2015: New damage-dealing ability. Was "Target player chooses a creature with flying he or she controls. Tears of Vlakut deals 7 damage to that creature."
So, sometimes developers make super-specific cards to deal with metagame problems. This was initially intended as a very specific answer to Silumgar and Ojutai, but it was just a bit too far in the realm of "developery-ness," so it was scaled back to something that looked like an actual Magic card."
While I think the effect is an interesting twist on green's flying hate, I agree the flavor text is definitely the most important bit here.

They didn't care that he was the savior of Fort Keff, the great hunter of Ondu, the champion of Kabira. To them, he was just another piece of flesh, a thing with life to be drained away.
This makes me wonder if they're doing spoiler teasers, like how they did in the original innistrad youtube videos of the guy with the hairy legs showing off the cards.but I doubt it due to the recent events of unofficial spoilers. Either way,I'm curious and I want to know more about the story.
I just hope the set isn't a bunch of female angels getting brutally killed on the majority of the card art...
Agreed, even though WOTC decided long ago to make all angels female (and demons male). The risk of sending the wrong message is too big. I hope they've found another way of making the Angels one of SOI's antagonists without making the heroes of the storyline resort to killing them all to resolve the problem.

I bet there'd be more, unless it's some sort of a quota with sets that have angels (e.g. one angel death in a card pet set), since we'd have one with Battle for Zendikar.

I think Avacyn finds out who made her and what her actual purpose is through Nahiri. Thus Avacyn reasons that the only way to stop all the other evils of Innistrad from being is to kill all the humans, since without humans more vampire can't be made. Same goes for werewolves since the primal savagery needs humans to be able to change them werewolves. Skaabs and Ghouls can't kill humans if no more humans are left. Demons lose supplicants and can't gain more power. And most Geist's just want the blessed sleep which the angels can give, and even the vengeful angry geist's are no where near as powerful as regular angels and are powerless against Avacyn and her powerpuff angels. Ironically Avacyn starts losing power without humans and are destroyed by the only thing the plane has left Demons, Zombies and Ghosts. Sorin surely would weep if that happened.

Risk sending the wrong message? Even though, y'know,
WOTC decided long ago to make all... demons male
? As if that doesn't send a wrong message? LOL
Why act as if females are some sort of protected species when there are multiple cards depicting women killing men. It doesn't make sense.
What's wrong about female angels being killed? How is it worse than male angel being killed?
This is Innistrad, the theme is naturally grim.
Haven't you gotten the message through your skull yet? Women are a protected class and the thought of even harming one makes you a misogynistic pig worthy of 10 years in Guantanamo Bay.
If angels are evil this time around, I wonder who will be the good guys other than some of the humans.
The Stromkirk, possibly. They always seemed to be the most reasonable monsters and it's in their best interest that the balance is maintained.
The Stromkirk are busy worsipping Dagon.
It'll be either Mr. Golden Boy (because it's been sooooooooooooo long since Jace last saved the world), Grandpa Markov or Liliana by "accident" again.
Yeah, I think Nahiri co-opted the angels to make them "super-white" and go all path of righteousness on the rest of Innistrad for revenge against Sorin (for whatever he did). Looks pretty interesting, to be honest. Love me some iconoclastic storylines
Yeah, I do agree that it looks like an over-sized PAX reveal card. If it is real...
Or a GP Houston oversized reveal card. I do expect atleast 5 cards to be spoiled this weekend no reason not to use the Standard GP as a way to start spoiling.

Because in today's society, everyone is equal, but women are equaler.
More likely the fact that domestic abuse of women in a greater number than domestic abuse of men is a continued problem and reinforcing that, even in a fantasy card game has some negative implications. It's the Triumph of Ferocity problem all over again.
Additionally, demons and devils as males is a long tradition, generally unburdened by the weight of perception because of that long tradition, and also the fact that it continues the idea of males in power, regardless of spiritual position. Meanwhile, angels have usually been depicted as male, especially those of high power, or in earlier cases non-human entities of indiscriminate gender, so Magic deciding to make what is generally considered one of the highest powers for good an all female race is a good step in the direction of inclusiveness, and empowerment of women.
So taking that power away naturally comes across as a bad thing, mmkay.
In actual thread related remarks: Interesting design for a card. Suggests a potentially slower format, with an archetype involving haymaker Angels in play. If it was just about removing any flier whatsoever, they'd just reprint Plummet like they did in BFZ. And the implications for plot are interesting indeed.
I'm guessing the angels, Nahiri and a few monsters go crazy because of the "Shadow" (connected to the moon somehow) which is why we are seeing madness and delirium. I'm guessing we see the human somehow winning against the angels but then are in more trouble when Eldritch Moon happens.

I'm pretty sure Avacyn and possibly a few high members of the church already know that Sorin created her to bring balance to the plane. So I don't see this being the case unless Nahiri is able to convince Avacyn that Sorin isn't all that good of a person and that she was really created to essentially be Sorin's gamekeeper. Created to make sure that the vampires always have something to hunt.

It might depend on how Three-Laws compliant the Angels are. They seem to follow the standard rulings, so...who knows?
