I saw something from my local gaming store saying that one of the new mechanics will be called "monarch". at the end of the monarch's turn they draw a card. whenever someone deals combat damage to the monarch, they become the monarch. no one starts as the monarch, but there are cards that say "you become the monarch" like a cantrip tacked onto to a regular spell. apparently there will be monarch tokens in some packs as well to keep track of who is the monarch. works kind of similarly to dethrone!
that sounds pretty neat and really flavourful. you want to attack the monarch to become the monarch yourself, but then you put yourself in a dangerous position.
love it!

Monarch reminds me of the edge from VtES a lot. Which is not necessarily a bad thing - in that game it worked great. I wonder what it's going to be like without the predator-prey structure of interaction, though.

I can see Snapcaster Mage, Serum Visions or Aven Mindcensor being on this set.
And I'm hoping for some good commander/casual cards to get reprinted aswell, just like in the original Conspiracy.
I don't see them taking anything away from MM3 right now, with Serum Visions and Snapcaster Mage. As for Aven Mindcensor are there bird folk on Fiora? Not saying that card can't be reprinted, but that might hurt its chances.

Would you care to elaborate?
To put it short, in Vampire: The Eternal Struggle (VtES) you can only attack the player to your left (known as your "prey"). Whenever you "bleed" a player this way (deal them combat damage basically), you gain what's called the "edge" (represented by a counter). At the beginning of your turn, if you control the "edge", you basically gain 1 life. What makes it interesting is that in VtES, your life is your resource (you spend it like mana to play cards). These rules in combination make for a dynamic and often tense multiplayer experience, where deal making is a key part of strategy and aggressive play needs to be balanced with caution.

I'll just add one little clarification: in Vampire, you automatically replace every card you play (wit ha fex card-specific exceptions), so gaining a point of life in that game is closer to card advantage in MtG than to lifegain.

Reminds me of Juggernaut in Halo. Juggernaut gets extra firepower, you kill Juggernaut, you become it. It feels more intuitive than dethrone, especially since the fluff of the block sounds like theres a lot of factions claiming to be the monarch, and infighting determines who is viewed as the monarch at a given time.

I imagine we'll be getting some kind of token card depicting a crown that can be passed around to indicate who is the monarch. It's like how experience and poison counters each got a token card.
I also imagine a lot of the "you become the monarch" cards will be effects that specifically target a player, and if that player is the monarch, you become the monarch.

Obviosuly, there will also be cards that care about you being the monarch ("~ gets +2/+2 as long as you're the monarch") or care about which player is the monarch ("At the beginning of each end step, if an opponent is the monarch, that player gains control of ~").
MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.

There doesn't have to be any avens on Fiora for them to reprint it. The original Conspiracy set had cards like Mirari's Wake. That doesn't mean the Mirari is on Fiora.
I can see Snapcaster Mage, Serum Visions or Aven Mindcensor being on this set.

Was just about to get to that. Phage was reprinted in Conspiracy and she has nothing to do with Fiora much less able to get there since she became part of Karona which was killed by Kamahl.

It isn't that complicated either. It is like a very minor version of Edric's ability. If you have people playing bad cards to create "complicated" board states in your meta, then that sucks I guess?
I don't see too many Nekusar players setting up a very slow once a turn draw that requires combat damage to be doled out. Why set things up when there are like a million wheel effects?
