So while it seems like dethrone might return, it seems even so likely that Marchesa will no longer be featuring it. After all she now rocks the crown and sits the throne, so her priorities have just reversed. I'm looking forward to the mechanical exploration of the new themes of these existing characters. I also wonder how the change in rlership reflects on the other Fiorans we know. I did not follow the story articles for the set, but now that there will be continuity, I think I'll have a look (if that part of wizards.com is currently working).
The current art gives me the unfortunate feeling that Marchesa was converted to be more "young and picture pretty" to make her valid as a face character. That would be an unfortunate message. I hope it is just artistic interpretation and not a general move to change the character. In the end she varied in appearance a lot already in the art of of her origin set, so maybe this is just an outlier.
this is the promotional image from the previous set, already posted a couple of pages ago.

Seize the crown to give yourself a greater edge—if you can keep it.
I'm thinking there will be a literal "seize the crown" mechanic in the set. As in an actual "crown" game object in the command zone that players can fight for control over.
Especially given the joking tone they've set so far, this makes me wish this was a new "Un-" set. I feel like they'd find a way to ship Burger King-esque crowns that you literally have to seize.

Funny, I was thinking of just bringing my own paper crown for a 'pre-release' party...
Thinking more about the Royal Marchesa art (I'm in favor of it, BTW), I'm definitely thinking that the Crown itself is cursed or otherwise exerts a heavy price on those wearing it. Basically, think of The One Ring and its effects.
Also, I think its curse might be spreading, for as someone pointed out upthread, before taking the crown, Marchesa was always most associated with poison and her rings (Bite of the Black Rose). It may be that whatever ritual that Brago used to become the Eternal King is going out of control and it's spreading to other items.
Alternately/In addition, WotC/Fiora may be adding items to its regalia by the time-honored tradition of including an item from each person who takes the throne. We could get a similar cycle to the 'Empires' cycle (Scepter of Empires, Crown of Empires, Throne of Empires).
And note that the idiom in this case is slightly off. Normally, we say someone 'takes the throne', not 'takes the crown'. This again may imply that people are fighting over the crown, not the Throne. (It might confer immortality, for example.)

Seeing as the previous 'immortal' wearing it is kinda re-dead... probably not on the immortality... or at least, not an immortality that you want to put much stock in...
all the hype that this is trying to generate, the daily name changes and art reveals and stuff... its having the opposite effect on me. for whatever reason its killing my interest in conspiracy and just making me think 'whatever either show me whats in the set, or don't, but the release is too far out for you to be dedicating this much time to hype'
The first switcharoo was genius, this second one is a step too far and now I'm with you.
If there is a "crown" mechanic, my guess is it has to do with life totals. If you have the highest life total among players, you're "king of the hill" at that moment. The crown then can be a double-edged sword; having the most life grants you perks, but it can also enable opponents who wish to dethrone you. If the crown mechanic indeed cares about life, then it is most likely centered in BGW.

MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.

They lready did a life totals matter thing in the last Conspiracy. Just buy a box of that.

That's like saying that they already did a +1/+1 counters matter back in Dissension and you should just buy a box of that because they're definitely never going to explore the +1/+1 counters space ever again.
Up (I really crave more info even though I am greedy since it's only April)
Sadly with products like this they tend to just give the entire list out a few days before. They are worried it will take focus away from the standard products.

But we get block expansions all the time. We only get a multiplayer draft format twice every 20+ years. Why would they push the same design space on both usages? Is "life total matters" the only design space for multiplayer limited?

It might not be the only one, but it's a vast enough design space to make some riffs on the abilities of the previous set, which will give it a sort of a sense of continuity and evolution. Just like Raid in Khans turned into Dash in FRF. Both mechanics that care for your guys attacking. It would make possible for a "life total matters" to return without looking stale by bringing back Dethrone again, and it would also have synergy with the previous Conspiracy in case you want to mix and match some boosters for a draft. For the sake of discussion, let's assume that the Crown mechanic rewards the one with the most life in the table. A CN2 - CN2 - CNS draft would support a Limited game where the player with the Crown has benefits over the others thanks to CN2 boosters, while the CNS boosters would give access to Dethrone to the rest of the players in order to fight the opponent with the most life, sort of a makeshift Archenemy if you will. Yeah, they will obviously be attacking the Crown guy anyways, but Dethrone would reward them for doing so.
Furthermore "life total matters" is a design space that cannot be exploited to it's fullest in normal blocks, so the only place they could tap into it would be this, a similar product, or Commander, which has no Limited relevance whatsoever.
Meh, I wanna see "alliances matter." That element is pretty much completely absent in Magic. It would be nice to see a card let you make a "binding" offer at a temporary alliance.

I didn't see this posted already, sorry if I'm bumping old news-
According to a Google Reverse image search that lead me here, the woman in the image actually is Marchesa, The Black Rose.
The wiki's page sites a post on MagicTheGathering.com by Matt Knicl from 2014 that is now 404'd as it's reference, so I'm sure it's referring to the previous Consipracy set and Marchesa's previous card; but I feel like it's safe to assume that with the portait being her Wiki page's featured image that we can confirm her return, so I figured it was worth posting.
For real though, I want to know who the artist is on this, can someone PM me that?
Considering it's a full four months away and was announced six months ahead of time, I'm guessing the announcement came as a response to everyone hating the combined awful state of Modern and bland state of Standard in mid February. I don't expect much of anything about Conspiracy for some time. Their actual announcement probably wasn't scheduled til much later. I would say we won't get any real details until after EM is released.
Well, the next set will be the masters and then EM and then... conspiracy. I am really interested in this set as long there will be less than 10% cards with voting and there will be really nice 1vs1 cards for modern and legacy and commander.
There are very likely NO cards for modern, as nothing new will be modern-legal. There might be a reprint, but it won't be a huge card unless it makes sense for the world of Conspiracy.

Sadly with products like this they tend to just give the entire list out a few days before. They are worried it will take focus away from the standard products.
And their worries are probably justified. Now that everything's branded as too powerful for wizards sandbox that is standard, we can only get quality reprints as either judge promos or via eternal masters or conspiracy-type products.
I'm SO SICK of the "too strong for Standard" argument. It's the new "Dies to removal". We can have a two mana 4/4 with a zillion abilities, but we can't just have Accumulated Knowledge. Makes sense.
