Good golly, Miss Molly! Could we also have maybe a Cabal Coffers reprint? I hope the secondary market doesn't rack up the prices. I'd buy two booster boxes easily when the rest of the set is finally revealed. And there were those saying that the eternal format (Vintage and Legacy) were gonna die out...

It can't be Windswept Heath because both it and Wooded Foothills are after Wasteland alphabetically and Wizards wouldn't print one without the other. My guess is Wirewood Lodge: it fits in with Wizards' mandatory requirement that all $10/pack sets be filled with draft chaff instead of desirable reprints. We might get allied shocks and enemy fetches, or allied filters and enemy fetches, or no enemy fetches at all and checklands or painlands in a $10/pack set (ugh).

Ooh yes. I hope they do a iconic tribal for each color. Red for Goblins, Green for Elves, Blue for Merfolk, etc, etc.
Assuming this is to support both Commander and Pauper players (along with Legacy/Vintage), Elves, Zombies, Goblins, Allies, and Merfolk would all be good.
As for the non-mythic, non-money cards, I'm hoping for some Animate Dead, Dark Ritual, Lightning Bolt, Counterspell, Lord of Atlantis, maybe even Lord of the Pit. If they are going to give us jank for limited, make it nostalgic jank.
2–3 cases for WPN Core level stores
3–6 cases for WPN Advanced level stores
6–12 cases for WPN Advanced Plus level stores
Note that this is less than Modern Masters 2015, which had 2-3 cases, 5-6 cases, and 9-12 cases for the respective levels.
Doesn't seem that limited to me, since MM15 can still be bought a lot of places... though I expect that has as much to do with EV (which was terrible for MM15) as with supply.

A 100% accurate Lord of Atlantis would be nice....but then I may be (quite) a bit biased...
Sounds cool. I just hope they have a considerably larger print run than both MM1 and MM2, thus giving us regular peons a chance to get some of the boosters. A print run about the size of Conspiracy would probably do it.

It's about time for the reserved list to die, for the sake of Vintage and Legacy (And Commander).

Now that you mention it: I would love a modern-border Lightning Bolt with the original art. A shame that I wouldn't be able to get them signed.

I feel this is likely the case. Pre-Modern sets were not particularly good at supporting multi-color strategies at all, leaving very few format-wide archetypes to delve into. While I think they'll still try to make two-color draft strategies work in the format, the pickings are slim and I can see a tribal-ish set being a safe route to go that still allows you to print some good cards at common/uncommon. Perhpas not heavily tribal as a format (As Black and White don't really have mucch going on in pre-modern times), but certain with a sub-theme. Realistically, we can narrow it down.
I'm going to be blunt and say that the Fetchlands are right out. They will be reprinted in standard again, and they will save them for that time. This is not the place for them, as both MM1 and MM2 have shown in spades. Anybody thinking that fetchlands (Or any dual land cycle for that matter) will show up are deluding themselves. It's not going to happen. So Windswept and Foothills is out. Same logic applies to Watery Grave, Woodland Cemetary, Yavimaya Coast, etc., so these are out.
The homelands cycle is out, because it's terrible at everything and I can't imagine they would try to drum up nostalgia for that set. Same goes for Wintermoon Mesa.
I will say that Wastes and Wind-Scarred Crag are very unlikely, given that the there isn't any need for Wastes in the format and Crag is far to recent (And they've stated there won't be many Modern-Legal cards in the set).
This gives us a very short list, in no particularly order:
1.Wooded Bastion: I'm operating under the assumption that this set will be draft-oriented; Rare dual lands are not particularly conducive to this. It's not played in Legacy or Vintage, but Commander players would like this cycle. Still, I find it unlikely they would clog up 10 rare spots in this set for them. I'm going to say unlikely.
2.Wirewood Lodge: Possible, actually. Elves are quite popular, and having this as an archetype would allow for printing some difficult to print commons/uncommons. Wirewood Symbiote and Quirion Ranger are the notables due to have location specific names that we simply won't see ever again. I'm uncertain if they would put morph in the set or not, so Birchlore Rangers is a possible, but probably not. THere are loads of elves that commander players want also, so I'll give this one as a Possible to Likely.
3. Windbrisk Heights: Possible. The Hideaway lands are very difficult to reprint, and while they certainly aren't heavily desirable they can also be tuned well for a draft format if this is meant to be drafted. I put these a bit below in likelihood as Wirewood Lodge.
4. Zoetic Cavern: Big Maybe. Frankly, I just don't see the point. It's a cool card, but nobody is clamoring for it, and it's really left-field card to reprint.
5. Waterveil Cavern: I can see them doing this for fixing in the set. They're "meh", though, with a pretty severe downside. I think they have better options available at uncommon for land fixing anyway, and they seem clunky, unnecessary, and are at odds with current development philosophies. I'm going to say possible, perhaps slightly more so than Zoetic cavern, but still not likely.
So, if I were to give an order of Likelihood it would go: Wirewood Lodge(Most Likely), Windbrisk Heights(Also quite likely), Waterveil Cavern (Possible, but not likely), Zeotic cavern(Big Maybe)-Everything else(Almost certainly not).
Well it's about time!
I'm a little bummed to hear that the reserved list is staying in effect and there won't be an increase in the supply and reduction in cost of dual lands (something that will be necessary to get new players into Legacy and keep the format's player numbers high enough to be sustainable over the long term IMHO) but I'm still excited for this set none the less. It'll be really interesting to see what format defining cards they decide to reprint along with Wasteland and FoW.
So I just went ahead and got the dual lands I was planning on getting later now. Good or bad?
Also, I'm looking forward to cheap wastelands; I'll be able to run death and taxes, jund and esper mentor all at the same time! Between that and card availability, maybe legacy will start firing in my area
Didn't the guy who spoiled that "Eternal Masters" will be coming also say that there will be "Innistrad Echoes" type "expedition" cards in SOI? Am I mixing up something here?
The big question is "will they dilute these $10 MSRP packs with a lot of dollar bin trash rares?"
It's a condundrum, to be honest. If they print it with a bunch of high-end rares, a pack of this will most certainly be marked up significantly. If they print this with dollar-bin rares, then it will be sold at MSRP, and it won't be in very high demand. I truly hope that they at least try to spread the value out a bit more than with MM2, as well as not printing truly and utterly useless rares (God-damn Inexorable tide; what were they smoking whne they slipped that crap into the set?).
There honestly shouldn't be any *true* chaffe in these sets at all; there are tons of low-value $2-4 cards to fill up that slot where you would actually feel like you aren't completely boned for spending a ludicrous amount of money on it.
[EDH] It's built to be a casual format and to a specific vision, and if you don't like the vision, there's nothing wrong with that, but it's not going to change to accommodate everyone. Big tent is not a goal.
Question is, what's on the Reserved List that people would want, besides the Power Nine (which I don't think ANYONE is expecting to see back, Reserved List or no
So, SO many expensive Legacy and EDH staples, it's quite ridiculous. That's without getting into Vintage at all (hardly anyone plays that, relatively speaking).
So much for supporting the "#1 casual format" of their game, eh?
It really is mindblowingly foolish of WotC, on every level, to keep the Reserve List in place.
Without the Reserve list cards being reprinted, this set will just be a slap in the face to anyone who actually wants to get into Legacy. Also, if this makes Legacy more popular then RL cards are going to jump, a lot.
My bet is this is that this is Modern support, with Legacy inclusions.
I like that they're moving towards doing these yearly. Modern has to have support with an ever expanding game.
If the Reserve List stands, Legacy and Vintage are dead formats; it's just that simple. This doesn't change that.
Did I mention I'm looking forward to drafting this though?!
So long as they don't claim "limited environment" for choosing a bunch of unwanted fluff, and then include a bafflingly unusable in limited Daybreak Coronet, we'll be off to a better start.
So some punk kid at my local LGS will pull a force of will and act like he's the bomb at magic when he uses it in an EDH game...lord knows that punk kid can't afford the land for a legacy deck! So yeah this set will prob have some major cash grabs and the rest will be meh rares for EDH tricks
