Wow. If this is true, then even the business decisions Wizards makes involving Modern are stating to distance themselves from Modern.
That says something. It's funny that everything negative I have said about this format since its inception has been proven correct each time something involving it changes, or fails to.
Modern Masters was never a yearly thing to begin with, and despite MM and MM2 being financially successes, they alienated a large portion of the MTG community because it was both too expensive and impossible to get.

It's about time for the reserved list to die, for the sake of Vintage and Legacy (And Commander).
Final starting with nothing revealed. About anything : (
"It's quiet."
"Yeah, too quiet."
The Pro Tour is a prime opportunity for WotC to advertise their upcoming products. They always have announcements about some product. Why not this time? Makes me think this rumor might be true, and WotC didn't like having their thunder stolen, so they pulled the announcement and didn't replace it with anything.
On the other hand, that would be really petty and stupid of them to do.
I agree. PT was a great venture to announce new products. The fact that no announcement was made this time around just screams that they decided to pull back at the last minute. The reason/s is/are probably the recent leaks they've been having and the fact that they have no idea how to handle them... so much hype went in the drain
I'm not dissapointed about no MM17/EM announcement. I'm dissapointed about no announcements at all.
And it's not because I think they're butthurt about the leaks, I think they just believe they don't need to build hype anymore, people are captive and they can work on the least effort from now on.
Not sure I agree Sirius_B, they hyped the hell out of BFZ and would have done the same for OGW if not for the massive leaks of all expeditions, both PWs and most mythics.
I'm almost positive the reason we got nothing during the pro tour is because of the leaks. Don't forget to feel guilty and ashamed every time you look at them. I know I do, he says with not a hint of sarcasm in his voice.

Everything negative you've said about Modern has come to pass?
Well you can't have said much considering how incredibly popular it is.
It'll take a hit from the ProTour being overrun by Eldrazi decks and Wizards will take Modern off the ProTour (like they had planned originally) but it isn't going anywhere and will benefit from less exposure.

You're being flushed out dude, lol.
There's at least one other person who posted the same fake leak as he did, though, so he's not necessarily under the gun yet.
You say fake. But we still don't know what the summer set is and probably won't until April thanks to whoever stole that box of SoI and tried to sell it online(presumably)

So I'm confused, is this "Exceptional Masters" supposed to be a draftable set made of cards from sets all throughout Magic (not just Modern legal)? Sold in boosters & boxes? Are we talking about MM pricing too?
As an aside, WOTC has been announcing stuff later and later recently - it has nothing to do with leaks. Remember how we got official Commander 2014 spoilers like months ahead of time but for Commander 2015 we didn't get anything until preview week? I think they've said they don't want to spoil/announce things too far in advance as that detracts from whatever is currently on sale. Kind of silly logic if you ask me but whatever
Even though I'd venture a guess that the majority of MTG players that care about the Pro Tour aren't the type of people who'd be watching the Super Bowl, it could be that WOTC just decided to not compete with the news around the Super Bowl and hold off from any announcements until their next major Pro tournament or GP. Waiting to make the announcement certainly gives them a better chance to show up in social network's news feeds and the like.
If we all did some thinking we know the template of MM isn't gonna be sustainable. First MM was first 5 years or so, then MM2 was the next 5. So it makes sense they gotta shake things up. Plus, they found more data to go with a new product.

Donald Trump is not popular. He's popular with people who are eligible to vote in the Republican Primaries. Big difference.
They could have at least showed DD:BVC's Geist and Mindbreak Demon who we only know from spoilers and are 19 days from release.
It really does feel to me like they now see news as a waste of money.
I just hope they hadn't planned to actually reveal anything today. It would be incredibly petty if they decided to punish the player base for the leaks by choosing to not reveal what they were going to show today.
If they had planned to reveal something at the PT then that decision would have been made months in advance and would have influenced other decisions down the line.
If nothing was shown it's because they didn't want to, not because they care about MTGSalvation.
It seems strange that they don't want to use the Pro Tour. But if they are being more careful about their products overlapping, that's probably a wise move from their side. On the day the full spoiler for Journey into Nyx went up I spent the whole day trying to break codes on the Conspiracy-marketing push.
One of the main functions of PT OTGW is to promote Oath of the Gatewatch. It has probably succeeded in that. Now, people will be talking about broken Eldrazi decks and standard cards that are powerful enough for Modern. If they had revealed something awesome and amazing on Sunday, then we would probably be more interested in that, at the expense of OGW.
^Well put. I don't like to spell doom, but I find it hard to believe that they could not see the Eldrazi train coming. They know their cards, this can't possibly be a simple oversight. They are cashing out big time at the expense of the format.
As for this "spoiler", I'm not taking anything from Obl as solid ever again after he made a 100% promise on the BG manland that turned out to be pure bull. Rumors about an eternal masters set are already around, this is just piggybacking and should belong in the speculation subforum unless a mod can confirm that ww have any reason to believe him.

Just because the card was bad info doesn't mean much honestly.
You would be surprised how poorly people can remember cards sometimes.
I spoiled Timbermare incorrectly due to the source misremembering the card text. It didn't mean the source wasn't legitimate, just that they....didn't have a great memory.
Other cards have been spoiled with incomplete information filled in, greatly affecting their perceived playability. (Wreak Havoc, Sins of the Past)
I have been extremely skeptical of this card set existing, but since OP is another in the line of people to say its a thing, I now am inclined to believe it.

I think anyone who has been paying the least amount of attention would realize that this set is a possibility. There are a lot of cards not of the reserved list that could move a lot of packs if reprinted. But the questions that are important are still unanswered. I am sure at some level this set is being worked on, but will it come this year? maybe it was supposed to before the block cadence changed?
Will it being a motherload of goodies? (doubtful, it could just be conspiracy two without the new cards, and multiplayer spin)
No one expected Modern Masters 2016. (But it still might be just that with a few non modern legal cards in it.)
There is still no saying things like planechase are out of the question. (Until I see it pitched as packs and not decks this spoiler has 0 information, and could be the re-branding of things we know)
The leaker's source could be misinformed about a digital product. (The source has gotten a lot right but this sounds too much like a re-release of the existing digital product)
Wizards current stance of reprint equity is much tougher than the demand. (Expect product to cost in the ballpark of secondary market value. So even if mana drain / force of will level cards are coming they will be mythic in $10 packs or expedition level rarity)
As far as leaks the B?G manland could have been that way in development but changed later, just as this 'set' could have been floating around for a while. Just too early to get excited. If it was as amazing as some would like we would have a mystery unnamed GP or something floating out there to flog it.
The BG manland was probably that way in BFZ and got moved to OGW because of space and changed by the final printing. I'm pretty sure the original plan wasn't 2 in set one and 3 in the small set. If I had to guess with the full lists, the shifting was probably due to Evolving Wilds moving around to affect the amount of them available in the basically 2 draft formats. When it came over, it probably moved something else up to not have too many lands. Maybe they were originally going to have it in OGW to keep it away from a large mass of landfall, but decided to change things because of Wastes and the amount of single symbol colorless costs and altered the power level of the lower cost landfall cards to compensate for how many copies of the common fetchland would be available.

The "changed in development" thing never pans out to be a reason a card isn't accurate.
Because sources never come from dev.
All card sources that have come through the years are people who saw or have actual, physical product, or some sort of peek at a set's file, which is locked in once complete.
That all said, WoTC has recently been pretty open in saying "We can't reprint as many cards for modern in standard as we expected we would be able to, and the ones we did reprint....we probably shouldn't have."
Some sort of solution that isn't just Modern Masters every two years needs to pop up.

I'm all for it but with the huge amount of cards going for $5+ to $20+ or $50+ in modern let alone the large quantity of non-reserve list non-modern cards that are just waiting I don't think anyone will be happy, If you look at MM15 and Conspiracy they were certainly worth it but they count on <10% of the cards being exciting reprints. Yes this keeps speculation down but hasn't done enough for availability let alone card prices. We get smash to smithereens 3 times in a year but Serum Visions and Path to Exile cards are only FNM? Card s like Gitaxian Probe were absent for the only set to conceivably have phyrexian mana.
Don't get me wrong, I will like it, buy it, and play it, but I am not a tournament grinder. If a set has wasteland and force of will at mythic, with a half dozen Damnationish rares people will be happy but it is a drop in the bucket. We almost need a Magic: Money Card but bad for Drafting set to make a dent.
And I question the "we made a mistake printing modern staples...blah blah blah" If we had mutavault during 5 colors khans instead of mono devotion it would have been fine. And what about things like cursecathcer and aven mindsensor? Chord of Calling, and Goblin Piledriver were fine. Ravenger would have been fine during the era of terrbile artifacts. And the other 5 fetches should have been in fate reforged. It wouldn't have really impacted standard and we could have gotten them over with. Now we will have to wait another year and even then they will wring their hands about it.
