Just bouncing Rhino is good enough. However there are a ton of strong ETB effects right now. Abbot comes to mind if this card/mentor were the top of the curve. This is all aside from obvious applications in combo decks, and the fact that manifest and morph still exist in standard.
I think the only reason this card is being allowed alongside Siege Rhino is that it's actually pretty difficult for Abzan to generate colorless mana right now. Might swing things back toward using pain-lands, which have been unfavored for a while.
Strangler is one of the weird ones that is on ETB, not on cast.
The one thing that disappoints me is that it's not able to flicker itself. I suppose having "2C: Blank any removal targeting this" would probably be too strong though
Still, obvious plant for SoI, or obvious plant for SoI?
I'm fairly sure that was not the synergy he was hoping for.
If the exiled creature would return at the next end step, you could activate this then cast strangler and have it return the exiled creature to its' owner's gy making it effectively double removal (it "kills" one creature and another gets -3/-3).

I wonder if they just made a huge oops and didn't know it?
Plus, I mean... they're in the same block, so we'll have this combo all through Innistrad, and through the block after Innistrad.
Of course, this does mean you still need both on the field at the same time, so no matter what you choose, it's a three card combo that needs counterspell protection.
Is it me or does this Eldrazi seem like a direct plant for our return to Innistrad? Why do I say that? Lots of +1/+1 counter action would strongly suggest they're going to bring back Undying, which this guy luuuuuuuuuuuuuuuurvs.
I like this with training grounds too, probably some shenanigans there possibly. hmmm...
anyway, even without combos this seems solid and fun.
I really with it had a different sort of aesthetic from the other eldrazi, but whatever.
I love the different look of all the different phyrexians, and I get that the eldrazi are older and weirder and its kind of apples to oranges, but still..

I invision a future where one is not mighty when he can silence a crowd with brutality,
but when he leaves them speechless with wisdom.
This is the card I was looking for to help abuse all the ETB effects. Honestly the last time a card really made me excited was Whip of Erebos and this is to my mind a card that can be similarily abused the problem is you require to have things on board for it to work. But it can definitely stay on board especially in a list with Value Creatures. 3 Mana Flicker now I really wish it could flicker non-creature permanents lol.

EDIT: Also, it cant save itself from removal. Sad
I am curious though with Training grounds, can you avoid paying the colorless cost? So you just ya pay one generic mana instead as opposed to paying one pure colorless mana? If that's the case that be great for edh heavily colored decks that don't rely on pure colorless

To the people that say that a card needs to be a higher rarity because of Limited... I hate you guys so much. I present to you with this.

yea, training grounds *should* reduce any activated ability on a creature by CC (two colorless). So in this case, the cost of the ability should be just 1 generic mana, not requiring colorless mana explicitly. In other words, it would work with beastcaller savant ( or any way to immediately add 1 to your mana pool)
Nevermind, I dont think I have that correct. Also beastcaller doesnt work for obvious reasons (etb tapped). whoops..

Wow, and it's a white Eldrazi.
it blinks stuff you DON'T control?
OMG, this is crazy

This card is great.
The card is great, but I wish it was colorless. I was so confortable with eldrazi being non white.

For that super annoying Phage player you always run into.

RIP Batman guy. I hope somebody picks up the slack now that you are gone. Sick children need their Batman.
Modern: Decks I'm playing right now:
G Mono Green Tron (34-10-3 paper record, only SCG/Regionals/PPTQ record)
C Eldrazi Tron (9-5)
UG Infect
RW Burn
Meant for limited only IMO. And EDH of course. I would play the heck out of it.
In other kitchen table news, casual standard players might wanna use this guy and the two Sarkhans.

No, Training Grounds reduces the cost by 2 generic, not CC.
Hmmm...and Collected Company can get both the Cutthroat and the Displacer...Abzan Company Combo in standard!
