So Maro talked about how we will see more Oath cards in the future as more Planeswalkers join the Superfriends Gatewatch. I'm already curious to see some multicolored Oaths and we don't even have the mono cycle complete!
Wait, what? He said there would be more Oaths than the 4 in this set?

No, he said there would likely be oaths in the future, if they convince other walkers to join. For example, if SOI ends with Sorin joining the oath of gatewatch, there will be a B/W (probably) Oath of Sorin in that set.
They could have given these lands something extra to make them more interesting...
I know that is more limited purposes but by making them uncomon and been worse then the tap lands from tarkir/Gatees from Ravnicas really akward. Its also a waste of good art.God dammit this block is frustrating me with these minor things but adding up really becomes anoying
Man alive, I sure do wish we were getting a Black one of these. <goes into corner and cries>

The true mind can weather all the lies and illusions without being lost. The true heart can tough the poison of hatred without being harmed. Since beginning-less time, darkness thrives in the void but always yields to purifying light.
I invision a future where one is not mighty when he can silence a crowd with brutality,
but when he leaves them speechless with wisdom.
I mean, we literally had the exact same cards in the last block, but they were common and gained you a life upon entering. What is this block's problem? Who thought this was a good idea? Whose idea was it to make strictly worse Gate/Gain lands and make them UNCOMMON? What? if they butcher Shadows over Innistrad like they did this block, I don't know what will happen to this game. They're ruining some of people's favorite blocks and worlds.
It's important to remember that cards are made to serve the set they're released in, not the other way around. Khans needed mana fixing at all rarities to make 3-color strategies viable in limited. BFZ and Oath, on the other hand, have much less focus on multicolor. Enough that they need a little fixing, but not a lot. Keep in mind that rarity is almost always to balance limited. They don't want a billion common dual lands that no one's going to use passing around the table. I am sorry that they used such badass names and art on junk cards. That's just how out works out sometimes.
Mechanically, I thought we could make a cycle of Oath cards that would represent who exactly was joining the team. This would also help in the future as other Planeswalkers joined the Gatewatch.

No, not in this set. He just said that if they wanted to make more Oaths in the future, they would have been limited in design space by having the Oaths all give your planeswalkers new loyalty abilities:
In our original version, we had the static ability grant all your planeswalkers a new loyalty ability, but development pointed out that this would make all planeswalkers more similar and would create repetitive gameplay. Also, they would be hard to balance, and if we wanted the ability to make many Oaths in the future, it would leave limited design space. In the end, it was decided to go a little broader with the static ability and have it help planeswalkers in different ways. The cycle, by the way, is actually not a full cycle, as there are only four colors represented. There was no black-aligned planeswalker interested in joining the Gatewatch. (Ob Nixilis being the only candidate on Zendikar, and he's not really a team player.) [Emphasis added]
Oath is ridiculously good. And I approve of more dirt cheap dual lands that help my multiplayer decks. I was very surprised when they first moved these to common in RTR (guildgates) and this rarity makes far more sense. Stuff like bog wreckage should be common, not these.
Maybe you haven't been playing the game long enough, but back in the days before the original mirrodin every storyline of sets were connected together. If it wasn't Urza making his group of adults with additide, he was busy making his group of planeswalkers with attitude and giant mecha suits. This is nothing new just reverting to old themes and consolidating the story line. They can't keep going plane to plane to plane making up all these short stories then never connect them.
jeez, these oaths are something else. I am expecting a lot of t3 Gideon oaths followed by the titular man himself t4. very curious about Chandra's oath. I really hope they make an ob nixilis oath, not because he is going to join the gatewatch but because he pretty much already has taken an oath to destroy zendikar.
I for one don't particularly mind the idea of the gatewatch team. let's not pretend like any of these 4 characters were super deep to begin with, so I don't really care that they decided to form the justice league. not every planeswalker is going to want to join. kiora almost certainly won't, and I don't see any of the three joining either. there are a lot of ambitious individualist planeswalkers out there so I don't really think this thing will be that widespread. you can have Ajani too for all I care.
Gideon's Thing is cool, but it's nowhere near as good as Nissa's.
^ super this.
I saw Oath of Nissa and thats a card I wouldn't mind spamming the hell out of. I think this one is.... ok but its not exciting at all to me. Nissa's is so much better I think in part because it seems to focus more on the ETB of the card which on its own it tonally more than pays for itself. I suspect some of the balance for this card shifted to what adding loyalty to walkers does which is unfortunate as I would have preferred more of the focus to be on ETB enchantments but I think the cycle still seems good so far.

I have officially moved to MTGNexus. I just wanted to let people know as my response time to salvation decks being bumped is very hit or miss.
Having Oaths grant new abilities to planeswalkers would have been more interesting than this, IMO, especially if they granted abilities to planeswalkers of the same color instead of to just Jaces or Gideons.
The thought of Bolas having 6 abilities on the same card is just sweet.
Another good Oath for Superfriends EDH. Looks like Academy Rector will be pulling more work in there.
I feel like you might be overstating how important/valuable this would be in that deck. Rector can grab any enchantment and this is card just isn't a high impact card compared to what else you can and probably will be running. I'll definitely add this to my mostly-creatureless walker decks, but I'll still grab 7-8 cards ahead of this one. It's more grease than anything else.
The first thing that comes to mind that has synergy with oath of gideon is garruk wildspeaker
Just imagine if you played a 1-drop turn 1 and then a 2-drop token maker turn 2(gather the townsfolk, raise the alarm). You'd have like 5 4/4 tokens if you overran.
Really? You couldn't tack gain 1 life on those urborg volcanoes and coastal towers? This is just getting sad at this point seeing what they're printing this block in terms of below average mediocrity. Zero excuse for those at uncommon when there are common lands that are strictly better in gates and just gain 1 life lands. Could have tacked anything onto the lands instead they're just functional reprints of crappy invasion lands.
People and WotC care about limited a ton and for good reason. WotC for the money as if a limited environment is awful like say gatecrash or AVR it moves less packs. Players because limited is the most popular format by miles and the absolute easiest to get into as you could have no cards and a $20 bill and boom you can play a draft add a $5 and you have sealed.

"Yawgmoth," Freyalise whispered as she set the bomb, "now you will pay for your treachery."
Gideon's Oath seems solid. It's overcosted for the token production, but the additional planeswalker loyalty seems like a real thing when it curves into Gideon making an emblem the following turn.
It's not nearly as good as Nissa's, but it's certainly better than Jace's.
After all that top-deck manipulation / choice card draw, Gideon's Oath seems rather lackluster, especially when it involves Ally tokens, which means its impact will pretty be Standard-only. (Yes, I know 2 Ally triggers can be brutal, but it still feels underwhelming when compared to the other 2 generic effects, especially with the cost differences as well.)
UB tapland has great art, if only it as on Sunken Hollow instead...
Where is your Imagination. Kozilek is busting from the ground. As he start to stir there are small trimmers that damage the small folk. then when he actually returns BOOM the earth around him explodes rocks flying everywhere dealing large amounts of damage to everyone.
