Of the major incestual mechanics that appear and thrive only within this block, allies and devoid, it appears devoid is getting the most variety of tools to be playable outside of limited. Stupid Allies.
I think the major piece for this strategy will be the rare land that taps for any color. Ghostfire being legal gives this strategy real legs. I feel like we're on course for something more powerful than warriors.
Very nice anti sweeper card. Pretty decent way to break parity on one for one removal. At worst flash guys can mess up game plans, and give pure Aggro strategies more play against control.
Lastly this seems like it could be a good piece in the Eldrazi Aristocrats deck. Sac'em all to husk, Ascendancy triggers, sac them too, cast this and sac them too... Ummm my husk is 24/24? Swing? What you're already dead bc of cutthroat?
Eldrazacrats seems like an interesting idea, we however dont have much other than Rally the Ancestors I would find great irony in reviving Eldrazi with that card.
This isn't going to be in the BfZ draft format, its going to be 2 OGW packs and 1 BfZ pack draft format. Its going to be different.
quite true but in the 8 packs of bfz alone are a substantial number of cards that either blank this or turn it into a vanilla 3/3 (vile agg, vestige, makindi slide runner???, snapping gnarled????? etc etc). Not rare level power Imo. Not even counting the cards that will beat it in ogw, probably at common.
What? you can say that about plenty of cards. Kozilek's Sentinal walls alot of cards. Its one of the reasons its a high pick other than being in R/U/B devoid. Still a 3/3 flash for 3 will always be good. Also as he said its only 1 pack of BFZ in draft. Yes, in Limited the ability is a little narrow but its still a fine card.
You take 3 Rare Vile redeemer and I'll take 3 uncommon vile aggregate we'll see who wins. It's bad.
There are 8 bfz opened in draft not 1, of which dozens of the cards absolutely destroy this garbage card for 2 mana at common. Compare with, e.g., dragonmaster outcast, where only a handful of premium cards interact with it and it also wins the game. Compare with, e.g., warden of murasa which dominates the board for several turns and is difficult to remove. This rare is a do nothing chump blocker and should be uncommon. Best case scenario is eat a bear get a 1/1 scion and you have to play it off curve to do it, then it does nothing afterwards. Best case is it eats 1 card without dying and is relevant for exactly 1 turn to net 3 life and even that will only happen on the play, on the draw it is even worse. Compare with, e.g., lantern scout which has a medium case of a several points life swing and decent chance of recurring the swing
Compare to e.g., swell of growth which performs a similar function and permanently advances the board in your favor. Yes I think I would rather play swell of growth than this rare and in most cases it will be better, since it works on attack as well as defense.
The only time this will be good is when you have your board wiped at sorcery speed, are holding up mana for it, opponent swings out, you have enough life to survive, opponent is nearly dead. That is extremely narrow. Is 3/3 flash unplayable? Of course not, but it's still garbage and I pity the person who opens 2 of these. You will see this at pick 5-6+ regularly I'm sure.
Somehow I almost missed that this has flash. yowza

Rofl. What? Let me use your logic to bash Siege Rhino; its bad and doesn't deserve to be rare because Stampeding Elk Herd beats it in combat. You are funny.

If you don't like it that's fine, but don't be myopic.
From people's reactions, wizards just printed a card that calls your mother a whore and provides pictures for evidence.
In other words: CALM THE **** DOWN
For some perspective: Has there been a magic set in the past 20 years where there weren't unplayable rares? Holy smokes, they did it again!
