Didn't we JUST get "+1/+1 counters of Tarkir"? hrnnnnng
Support brings it again, though I guess I might be reacting worse to seeing that +1/+1 cohort active, which won't necessarily mean the rest keep it going
I feel like Cohort is a missed opportunity for teammate effect if this is supposed to THG friendly. Surge already directly references teammates, support can help teammates, why not let cohort use/affect *allied* creatures, not just allies? The art direction on eldrazi is starting to look like it will suffer from ulamogs problem in BFZ where they were all interchangeable. Its a shame, because the bismuth wastes art going around and mirrorpool show they can do some alien moonscaping, but theres only 2 kozilek visual designs to spread across all those backgrounds, triangleface and bulldog
Boy they are pushing wastes hard in this set. Some of these cards are absurd in limited if you are playing colorless as one of your two colors. I guess the question is how many colorless lands the average deck can expcet to get, as well as how many wastes specifically.
Cohort and Support will make limited interesting. I am getting ******* tired of +1/+1 counters though.
Seems lazy, but flavorful.

I´m so annoyed to see Converge isn´t in this set and we get a mechanic like Support that´s just another brainless "herpderp 1+1 counters for all" i mean come on

These are just the *new* mechanics. They didn't say that none of the mechanics from BFZ are returning.

Just noticed a funny thing: when you lay out the cards like in the OP, the colorless mana symbol looks exactly like the empty space between the four cards
BTW, did the mechanic article make a mistake about the support mechanic? It keeps talking about targeting creatures you control, but the cards' reminder text has no "you control" rider.

Don´t we usually see cards with returning mechanics at the start of the spoiler season just like new mechanics?
Thanks for the spoilers, Maro, do they come in "good"? This set is just full of wordy cards with funny symbols that don't really do all that much.
Walker of the Wastes is kind of interesting. He could be a 9/9 trample on turn 5 if you're playing lots of Wastes. More realistically, he could be a 7/7 trample if you still want to play a few colored lands so you can cast decent cards. I like Tyrant of Valakut with free spells but I'm pretty sure that's still too weak for Modern. Spatial Contortion is actually pretty strong: it allows red to deal with stuff it normally has to check under the bed for every night like Kor Firewalker and Mother of Runes. Where do you get the colorless mana, though? Wasteland and its little brother Ghost Quarter may be a start. If you're just playing straight burn you may actually want to just play something like Battlefield Forge since it taps for two colors and colorless.
These days, some wizards are finding they have a little too much deck left at the end of their $$$.

Ohhh man I love the new UR legend. I rarely find UR legends appealing but this one is well costed and it just does work by being in play assuming you design the deck correctly. I might actually play UR for once which kind of never happens with me.

I have officially moved to MTGNexus. I just wanted to let people know as my response time to salvation decks being bumped is very hit or miss.
Blah... So sick of +1/+1 counters and rehash mechanics.
I will say I kinda like Walker of the Wastes and (now hi-rez) Mirrorpool art. The pastel parts..sorta blurry/oversaturated...it's a bit nauseating to look at. Freaky. Kinda cool to see that sort of thing on a Magic card, honestly.

Every set will be Multicolor Tribal Counters and Tokens until the end of eternity. They give us what we pay for.

well you've got twice as many wastes as a normal common and OGW is a 184 size set, something around a small set size, plus expeditions on top of that. Is that 80 commons, correct me if I'm wrong? So in sealed you have an EV of ~3.75 ~1.5 wastes, or ~6 distributed across 8 players in a booster draft. So walker of the wastes isn't going to come remotely close to being a reliable 9/9 trample for 5 on T5. I'm probably wrong on all that, I didn't hear for sure if wastes wasn't going to show up in basic land slots too in packs, don't think it was, but point being you won't be able to get 10-20 wastes in limited, only at kitchen tables.
Long time no see Valanarch! Hooray for spoiler season.

Yeah on second thought, this set has some really bloody tame / rehashed mechanics, this is pretty phoned in quality. I got my hopes up when I saw <> being colorless rather than snow land parasitism, but retemplating existing mechanics seems to be as ambitious as they get now. I'd have more fun in THG playing two sliver decks. Better than BFZ so far I guess, at least the mechanics do something
Let's not focus too much on the Limited fodder when evaluating the set as a whole for Constructed, guys. Yes, many of these won't see play, but it at least we know what the new mechanics are, now.

Spatial Contortion seems very playable in Constructed, by the way. Bile Blight is sorely missed in Standard.
