More than anything else, I'm really interested to see what other cards they come up with that have the new Surge mechanic. Since it's a new card ability, odds seem pretty good that they messed up and broke at least one of the new cards with it.
Can't believe I'm the first person to mention that they stole the Combo mechanic from Hearthstone. Old formats do tend to enable surge pretty easily, so I'm excited for the mechanic. This card not so much.
I don't know how I should feel about the card and the mechanic. Looks busted in two headed, unplayable in all other formats besides edh.
Yup, if there's one lesson we have learned so far it's that playing a lot of spells to get an advantage is really bad. The mechanic obviously sucks...

Edit: PSA--You can't get an 8/8 or cast this for 5 via snapcaster, but you can with a Jace -3.
In what universe? If you build a deck like that, and ever draw that hand, I will personally come to wherever you live, perform complicated acts of awestruck ********, then disembowel myself to escape the world that allowed something like this to occur and validate you.

No. Flashback and Surge are both alternate costs, and you can only pay one alternate cost. Jace, Telepath Unbound or Yawgmoth's Will would permit you to cast it for its Surge cost from the graveyard, though.
How is this not a blue effect? Bouncing nonland permanents is blue. Making sea monsters is blue. In fact, blue has done exactly this before on Kederekt Leviathan.

People have been making up surge cards by simply reducing the cards cost, but you could also increase it, have the surge cost be another colour or what have you.
I really hope they go all out on this and not sop at 2-3 cards in each color...

It's looking better than Combo. Gavin confirmed on twitter that all Surge costs are lower than main ones. So you're getting both discounts and empowered effects (possibly). That's a great deal.
I imagine they'll probably keep it as just cost reduction in common and uncommon, and add additional effects at rare. But that's pessimistic.
