Pretty excited about this. My LGS does 2HG as their Sunday Night event every pre-release, and it's the only event I enjoy and can attend, so I'm really excited. 2HG is a really different experience, and thats why I enjoy it. I don't have the time or money to really play competitive formats anymore, so I try to play variant/fun formats and EDH as much as I can when I have time.
I went to a store that did a 2HG prerelease for Dragon's Maze and it was lot of fun. A friend and I teamed up, played Azorius and Orzhov, and cleaned house. Extort was OP in 2HG. Hopefully there will be some decent multiplayer mechanics in the set.
Haven't been able to try it yet, but BFZ already feels like it would be great for 2HG. Split your pool into Eldrazi stuff and Ally stuff and go at it.
That feels like something they wouldn't want. I wonder if they're going to do a themed prerelease like Mirrodin Beseiged. Split the set into Allies and Eldrazi packs. Team up two players of the same faction and have ally and eldrazi teams battle each other. Or is everyone sick of the "Choose a side!" events by now?
This is because they wanted (based on player demands), drafts to be NEW-NEW-OLD when the second set of a block releases. The set apparently needs to be slightly larger than small for that to work satisfactory.
All this says to me is a lot more cards that get better in 2HG..."defending player", "each opponent", etc. Also, this means there might be something for Commander slotted in here since a lot of the cards will be large and hit all opponents.

I am looking for Date Stamped promos from Khans of Tarkir block so I can finish my set. Check my wants if you have any.
Currently offering 2 non-foil Kolighan's Command for a Date Stamped foil!
Every small set usually comes with some weird funny gimmick. I don't see how different it is for better or worse. Wizards just needs to make sure gimmicks don't overshadow the Magic experience. Expeditions for example, overshadow the game, and it's not really a good thing.
I've been playing prereleases from Kans of Tarkir (so Fate reforged, Dragons of Tarkir, Origins and Battle for Zendikar) only in the 2-Headed giant verion and I assure to everyone that it's super funny, you have a larger pool of cards (12 packs!) and some cards are stronger in multiplayer (like Nettle drone), on top of that you're playng WITH a friend! What would you want more?
For those complaining about cards being costed for 2HG and being unplayable in 1v1, there are already cards in BFZ that synergize with 2HG and are costed fine for 1v1 limited and even constructed. There's the each opponent cards, Ondu Rising, etc, all of which are quite playable.
EDIT: OK, MTGS doesn't seem to like the brackets in gatherer search URLs, so you'll have to search "each opponent" yourself. Any way to fix this?

Normal 2H Giant should only be 8 packs unless your have the prerelease boxes. I would assume they will do the BFZ style boxes again, but just throwing that info out there just in case.
"You and up to one other target player each..."
"Each opponent..."
Those are the only two simple templates I can see for this. Granted, combat tricks are another simple way for you to help your ally that the game already supports.
Ah... Missed the Ondu Rising template. Shared turns does allow for simple templates like that.
I thought the best way to make 2HG-friendly mechanics was something similar to processors: give exiled cards back to your ally and gain value. But sadly, processors won't work this way in 2HG so... idk. Nothing from BFZ really scream 2HG
All of the processors also work better in 2hg because it doesnt matter how the cards got into exile. in normal draft one deck has to hit an ingestor and a processor, in 2hg you have twice the chance to hit your exile removal. These are all just off the top of my head. There is undoubtedly more.
Also to the spikes complaining that this will ruin normal limited, which card above is bad in limited? The fact is the difference between one opponent and many is almost completely irrelevant most of the time, so you can cost the cards the same and get a good card in normal and a great card in 2HG all without breaking standard.

Yes, since they're prereleases you get each a prerelease pack. If it's a draft or a sealed game the number of packs changes.
But if we have no gimmicks, can we really call it a Prerelease or is it just your run-of-the-mill Sealed? I applaud gimmicks at prereleases that are optional.
Everything prior to Avacyn Restored would like to have a word with you...
But in all seriousness, all of these gimmicks are just obstacles getting in the way of me having fun. And I realize that not everyone feels this way, but I just want to play semi-competive sealed with the lowest REL possible as well as have the option for continuous construction without having to jump through hoops.
Outside of faction sets, the seeded packs would help ensure you have cards to play in your desired color. I don't mind them since you still get five regular packs to choose from. I'm surprised BFZ Prerelease didn't have a choice of a Zendikar or Eldrazi seeded pack.
On a side note, I like the idea of a dedicated 2HG supplementary product. Perhaps a pair of decks designed to be played together with the usual supplement-original cards of varying rarities included in each? I could see a given 2HG product consisting of 2-5 packaged pairs of "Dual Decks", though they would probably choose a name that's less of a homophone with an existing product. It would also be fun to see each deck focus on a particular theme or mechanic; I could see Battle cry making a big comeback to take advantage of its 2HG unique advantage (namely, boosting your teammate's attacking creatures). Of course we could also expect to see new mechanics designed specifically for 2HG play much as we have with Commander products.

MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.
But if we have no gimmicks, can we really call it a Prerelease or is it just your run-of-the-mill Sealed? I applaud gimmicks at prereleases that are optional.

This is not a gimmick,it's not like the minigames we've had in the past. This is a design decision to include the word each instead of target more often. If you don't like 2HG, then you don't play it. There will be plenty of people doing plenty of prerelease events that are not 2HG. As I showed before, cards geared towards multiplayer games lose very little in straight up games, people that like and play multiplayer notice this, but most people don't even think about it. Honestly if they didn't make this part of the announcement then I'd argue you'd hardly notice. Do you know the difference between mire's malice and 2HG mire's malice? maybe cost it 2BB instead of 3B and change target to each.
Even more than that, not a single card has been spoiled, so you are going all Nostradamus before seeming anything to suggest the set wont work just as well in normal sealed.
So what do you guys think this means for the general mechanics and themes of the set? Team work seems to be a big thing so I think it's fair to say some for of All/Rally will be in place and a strong synergy feel, where it's less about individually powerful cards and more cards that work well together. If that's true then I think we won't see much of an impact in standard until KTK leaves.
