They seem to have problems making GU designs that aren't biased toward Green.
All three abilities on Kiora, Master of the Depths could have been mono-G
(well, making Blue Octopi would be a bit weird, but that is a very, very small sliver of Blue!)

They seem to have problems making GU designs that aren't biased toward Green. Kiora, Master of the Depths could have been mono-G despite having three abilities
Creature-grafting is a developed trait of UG combination, and Ezuri was likely taken controlled by Pogress Engine, the blue faction of New Phyrexia. Everything about New Phyrexian has a hint of "compleat" in it.
That said, creature-related card drawing is also a UG trait, hence Kiora and Fathom Mage, etc.

I think part of that is the intersection of blue and green naturally feels green heavy. I mean, the keystone of the pairing is usually advancing creatures progress through magic or science, so +1/+1 counters, granting additional abilities, or having very evasive creatures with Hexproof(since U/G are the main Hexproof colors) or Unblockable, as well as manipulating cards and creatures. I feel it is very hard to make a good U/G card without skewing one way or the other.

The +1/+1 counters thing started with the original simic.... they chose evolution through power and pseudo sliver abilities....
What they should should be doing is cards like mystic snake, coiling oracle, and Vig that use creature to advance board state in unconventional (non power/combat) ways....
This is the kind of thing I was hoping for in my Animar deck. I just wish he was a 2/4 so I could tutor him with Imperial Recruiter.
I like the fact that I don't have to dig too deep into the life total to pull off either an Emrakul or Ulamog loop with Metamorph. Animar is full of creatures that would trigger this guy. In fact, barring Primeval and the Eldrazi, I can't think of too many creatures who wouldn't trigger this. Most of the guys you want to be casting trip him, which means you can stack Animar quickly. I could see him easily pushing it into a T3 deck with the nuts.
Now I'm worried that we're gonna see a WB Phyrexian Kemba next. At this rate, we might not have anyone to root for when we return to New Phyrexia except probably Koth.
You know, a WB Phyrexian Kemba would make me sad, but it's one of the few legends that could make me want to build an Orzhov deck. Heck, any kind of closure on her fate when we return to New Phyrexia would be appreciated.
In any case, I think I am gonna switch my Kraj deck into new Ezuri. He just feels less clunky and all.
New Ezuri seems like the all-star of the five-color deck that uses all of the experience-counter legendary creatures. It's so easy to get a ton of counters with Ezuri.
I'm very pleased with Ezuri. I was hoping for infect but darn!
Honestly, Ezuri is more of what Simic entails. All the major Simic cards from original Ravnica to RtR were token producers and manipulators. He definitely is a perfect example of the reason I love simic- to make little dudes suddenly gigantic killing machines of awesome.
Combo I'm super stoked about? A mid game Biomass Mutation. Hey everything is X/X PLUS the tokens I put on them. That 5/5 1/1 with 4 tokens? Yeah he is gigantic and even more so due to Ezuri. Plus he is a passive general and only seeks to accelerate the deck instead of have it be built around like Vorel of the Hull Clade. You could run a number of UG strategies with him in the lead.

Very happy and probably has my money already.
My numbers may be off, but there's about 17 infect cards you can run with this Ezuri that will increase the number of experience counters, of which Ezuri can buff to dangerous levels.

My sadness isn't that Ezuri is bad with infect (on the contrary, he is incredibly good with it), but moreso that Ezuri didn't have infect himself and doesn't directly affect it.
I love him. I want to build a ramp elf deck that draws a ton. Seriously two of my favorite things to do in commander games and he just oozes with fun. Boring? Somewhat from a perspective, but as a simple player, he is amazing.
