I just hope your lgs respects its limited players enough to support drafts over private people buying boxes. My lgs can get 60+ drafters any given week. It's going to be cramped tomorrow. If my lgs did that to us I'd show them how I felt by simply going to another store, as would many others.
Well, with proper motivation my LGS has acquired the outstanding BFZ boxes. So we will have drafts and singles this Friday and all box preorders will be filled. Their temporary solution was to draft Innastrad instead, which is still an option...tough choice...
I think they dodged a bullet with customers, but at least they were straight forward with situation and offered some sorta solution.
It should be noted that temporary shortages on highly demanded sets can and does happen (RTR being one example of a temporary shortage due to super high demand).
Fat packs are a tricky thing. One thing here that I think people fail to take into consideration is that wizards is very careful when it comes to the print runs of their limited print run products (ie: the ones that only get a single print run). The fat pack print runs are also limited by their existing network of printers and packagers. The troubles there comes when you have a a super high demand set. Wizards cannot afford to expand their network of printers just to accommodate the occasional super high demand set, they have to keep it as in-line with general demand as possible. Another thing that comes in as well, is that in many cases shops don't always tend to max out their order of fat packs, many shops so sure, but many cannot afford to do that. When a set like this comes along, and the shops see the HUGE demand and the potential for a greater profit on such items, they will order a much larger amount than normal, which can then diminish the amount of a limited product like fat packs that shops that normally max out their orders might normally get.
People who think wizards can just "print more" of something because they know it will be popular, have to understand that they are always maxing out their printers to get out as much product as possible to meet the scheduled releases of all their products and wouldn't intentionally print less of something they knew they could make money on if it was possible to do so within the confines of their existing network of printers and packagers for the products they sell.
For shops, the trouble with pre-selling anything they have not gotten 100% conformation from wizards and their distributors on what they are guaranteed to get is that shortages or getting less than initially ordered/expected can and do happen for sets like this. I know our shop we NEVER pre-sold anything until we got the final guarantees from our distributors/wizards. Pre-selling booster boxes is fine, but you have to be careful to limit the amount of pre-sales so as not to leave yourself with too little product to sell on release day and to run events with. Things like Fat packs that are limited in the first place is something shops have to be VERY careful of if they are going to pre-sell them. Our shop, for example, never pre-sold fat packs. They were products we knew we would sell out of quickly enough, and it was better for us not to pre-sell as to avoid issues of supply once release day came.
Anyhow, just some things to keep in mind about all of this.
I really wish WOTC would watch distributors closer, especially with something that has a limited print run like a fat pack, or Commander product. I would hate to think distributors are skimming product to sell at a larger margin on the secondary market instead of having it go to the LGS'.
Booster boxes shouldn't be an issue going forward; some players local stores may not have enough to do the first draft or offer the prize support, but this kind of thing happens and it gets fixed pretty quick.
I unfortunately was not able to pre-order a fatpack of BFZ, so it looks like I am out on that.

By the time the set is spoiled and demand hits it is already too late to increase the quantity of something, be it fat pack, duel deck, or event deck; for the release.
There is no "shortage" of BFZ fatpacks, they are just desireable this time. Simply demand has out reached their typical supply. I really don't get why people want these ugly smashed together horrible basics and their frames, but this is not a shortage persay. Its simply demand.
I havent heard anything of a shortage this time around for product at my store. They started their draft fest at midnight last night and will be continuing on through the weekend. Tonight is a Win a box draft event as well. I've preordered a booster box and a fat pack myself. I had heard about shortages worldwide and had inquired and they told me they had 300 fat packs coming and didn't anticipate any shortages. If I'm there and they have extra tonight I think Im going to go ahead and buy the second one I was intending to buy instead of waiting.
My LGS has plenty of boxes right now, but are running into a shortage of Fat Packs. They were capped by distributers when they tried to order more. It turned out quite a few people who buy a booster box each set bought 3-4 fat packs instead. Also, almost EVERYONE who normally just buys a box, added a Fat Pack to their preorder. They had about 10-15 Fat Packs for Sale at Midnight that were not pre-ordered. The expectation was they wouldn't last to 5 PM. Normally they'll sell 30-40 Fat Packs or more on release day.
Target had a million of them. Not sure what the issue is.
Yeah, I went to Target last night and they were just getting ready to stock the fat packs. They had 6 cases there on the floor and the employee doing the stocking said he thought they had 10 or 12 more in the back, at least. Since my local shops are getting shorted I decided to buy a ton of fat packs from Target to sell(at MSRP) to people that won't get them from the LGS.
Seems like real shenanigans going on, with Target getting fat packs in droves but game shops getting drastically shorted. This Target isn't even a big Magic seller. They still had booster packs from M14 and a Khans Holiday gift box when I was there a month or so ago. I'm thinking about going back today and buying even more fat packs, if for nothing else than poops and giggles.

Yeah. Went buy the closest big box that has Magic (a Wal-mart) this morning and the shelf was full. I bought two for myself and one for a friend as a birthday present. So if anyone is having issues with their LGS or don't want to pay more than MSRP, that is your best bet it seems...
Sad thing is that the most valuable cards I pulled were the full-arts...
We got more fat packs then we got for origins. That being said, I don't know if stores are shorting fat packs, it's literally just that people are buying more. A bunch of people who don't usually get fat packs got one or two. WotC always has a finite amount of fat packs available, and while it's more for this set then previous sets I doubt it's the triple+ that would be needed to meet demand.
My FLGS had sold out of all of its Fat Packs, so I went to my local Target and bought the remaining 2 that they had, as well as the remaining Event Deck. For some reason, the Fat Packs at Target were $40. Wasn't too bad since I already had a $22 Target giftcard which took the sting off.

If that were the case then shops wouldn't be getting shorted all over the world. But they are. So it's clearly an issue with the supply.
My LGS had 12 fat packs, and only the first 12 who ordered one (Of which I was one) got one.
There were at least 17 who asked for one and went home disappointed by my count.

WotC is telling shops that there will be no additional shipments of fat packs, which is a new occurrence.
Yes and no.
That may be something that usually doesn't happen,
but it has way more to do with increased demand than decreased supply.
WotC definitely should have anticipated this situation a little better,
but they aren't being as dumb about it as some are portraying.
If it was just an issue of increased demand then stores would be getting their full shipments, or at least shipments the size of what they can get with any other sets. Many of them(seemingly most of them) around the world are NOT. That's an issue with supply, not demand. Shops all over the world are reporting that they're not just getting less than they ordered, but less than they get of any other set.

It's true that there is an element of short supply, but again, that's because demand has increased for Fat Packs of BFZ vs. most any other new set.
To simplify it:
Imagine they only print 100,000 Fat Packs of any given set.
For most sets, stores only order 10 of those, even though they *can* order as many as 100-
they don't want unsold Fat Packs taking up space, so they only order 10, knowing they will sell.
To continue the example- for BFZ, every single store is ordering 100.
They may only sell 10 Fat Packs for other sets, but they can sell (and will order) a number much greater than that for BFZ.
Since all stores are trying to do this, it eats up the supply of BFZ Fat Packs at a rate much, much greater than the average set.
That said, they *should* have anticipated this and increased the number of Fat Packs printed for BFZ,
but they stupidly decided to do the opposite since, in most cases, Fat Pack sales are on the decline.
For most sets this would have been the right call, but not for this one.

Local card shop east of where I live is doing 1 per person @ $35.00 ea
I think this is the right way of doing things to make sure as many people can get a Fat Pack as possible, which means more happy customers even with a limited supply. I know this shop will get my business in the future along with w/e business I send his way via word of mouth.
He mentioned the distributor only let him get 12, and that he can't get anymore after that.
Lines up with what everyone else has been saying. Luckily, I found one at Target. Just need about 160ish full arts because I'll just trade with my friends to get matching pictures.
On a negative note, one store west of where I live is charging $50 per pack + tax. Guess where I'll never shop and never send anyone to?

If you think that's bad, a friend of mine who lives ~30 minutes away said his LGS is charging $65 for fat packs and $95 for booster boxes. And they're selling at that price, despite Target carrying fat packs at MSRP. He's buying his fat packs from me since I bought a ton of them from Target.
I'm going to be hitting up my local big box retailers tomorrow, since all three LGS told me they wouldn't have fat packs.
