Yeah, agree with everyone, they really missed the point when they commisioned these arts and then covered half of them with a ugly text box the size of a normal text box...
some of these look more like color comps than finished paintings. There's a fine line between post-impressionist and rushed work. That said I'm partial to the misty rainforest.
That scalding tarn is going to be worth a million dollars, it's truly beautiful. Watery grave, breeding pool and bloodstained mire also get my thumbs up. Blood crypt confuses me, though, I don't see anything that resembles what it should. And Polluted Delta is much too bright to consider polluted imo.
but why do I even care, it's not like I'll ever get one of them in a pack or for a reasonable price.
I'm SO SICK of the "too strong for Standard" argument. It's the new "Dies to removal". We can have a two mana 4/4 with a zillion abilities, but we can't just have Accumulated Knowledge. Makes sense.
I can only assume the grey box is so the expeditions match the devoid card aesthetic, but yeah.... Guess I will wait 5-7 years for the next time they do something like this. And 1 per case vs. the ~2 per case I was hearing earlier makes me more interested in just proxying some of these up for my cube.
To reiterate the general sentiment, these are beautiful pieces. For me tho, the winner is actually Godless Shrine. Not only do I like the piece but when I saw it I knew it had to be Godless Shrine just from looking at it. Some of the other pieces, while beautiful, are sort of obtuse.
I am surprised I hadn't seen it mentioned up until now, but that article appears to show full artwork for the NEW Zendikar dual lands (Canopy Vista, Cinder Glade, etc.) as well. Art which does not match up with what has been previewed up until now.
So is that a sort of tacit acknowledgement that five of the as-of-yet unrevealed Expedition lands which are to be released in Oath are to be the dual lands of BFZ?

the blue/white one is the same. I think the green white one is as well. I don't remember what the others look like, but at least two of the five match what we have already seen.

They're all the same as those previewed at PAX when they unveiled the Expeditions. And they really did a fine job with those ones. I like all of the alternate art BFZ duals.

They definitely are not the same as the art on the cards. Taking the Blue/White one as an example (Prairie Stream) -

Be that as it may, it seems indicative that if they have commissioned full art that is associated with a card like this, it's likely going to end up on a card especially when it's tied to other art which we know are cards. So I believe we should expect these to be on cards - namely, the Oath expedition lands.
The art for Overgrown Tomb makes zero sense. There is no tomb and nothing is overgrown. At least Sacred Foundry and Hallowed Fountain could be seen as abstractions.
Yeah. The arts are rather nice, but some of the representations are god-dammit-awful.
Overgrown Tomb - neither Overgrown nor Tomb
Sacred Foundry you already mentioned.
Blood Crypt is again fething neither crypt nor anything with blood. No blood either on Bloodstained Mire.
Virtually the only acceptable shocklands are Steam Vents and Breeding Pool. And to some extent, Godless Shrine and Watery Grave.
The fetches? Windswept Heath and Wooded Foothills are kickass. Delta and Tarn are good. There is virtually nothing that could have gone wrong with Marsh Flats. Catacombs woefully lack actual catacombs.

Okay, now I'm annoyed by how the main waterfall here just disappears midway down
It's still a better piece than the new Temple Garden, Blood Crypt, or Hallowed Fountain, all of which look like concept art.

RIP Batman guy. I hope somebody picks up the slack now that you are gone. Sick children need their Batman.
Well, Verdant Catacombs shows no catacombs, but is, at least, pretty verdant...
Will be buying packs and/or boxes...

Yeah, as a Simic devotee, this is the nicest U/G land I've ever seen. I kinda want it on a playmat.
Some of the others ... yeah, I'll just say I really like the Breeding Pool.
