Yeah I think this drana is really overrated. It will see play because all the other cards in this set suck so much but I was thinking the same thing; it is not as good as vampire nighthawk

Notable Modern interaction for Complete Disregard (and devoid in general): it hits Etched Champion
hmmmm, spend 3 mana in modern to remove one etched champion, or spend 3 to cast drown in sorrow to kill the etched champion, all the other dudes affinity has poured onto the table by this point in the game, and scry 1.
i would prefer Vampire Nighthawk 10 times over this Drana. and he is just uncommon. so what makes her a value mythic ?
She strikes. First.
so what ? pointless! if u wanna compare both directly, it doesnt matter, since she doesnt kill the nighthawk, so that he will kill her in return.
both r pretty much handled the same way (unless it comes to fight a X/2 creature, where the first strike comes into advantage), but the nighthawk is in so many situations better.
vs aggro u got the lifesteal.
vs fat creatures u got the deathtouch. i mean he could take down a 10/10 eldrazi. drana couldnt and she is the mythic while he is the uncommon. in most cases, when ur opponent has no removal for him, he needs to play around him. his impact to the board for a creature with no ETB effect is much bigger than the one of drana.
yes drana has nice flavor, especially when u read uncharted realms. she is ok as a card. but as a standardplayer and by comparing the value of both cards, i dont get why she is mythic and especially not, why she should be a value one. would be 1-2 mythic to me.
Drana permanently pumps all your creatures and, because it hits first, it pumps before they deal damage. That's a good lord-wanna-be for a vampire or ally deck

Yeah, I caught that. I was going to laugh at the claim that this could get a modern sideboard consideration, but then I realized that it does hit an online Etched Champion when basically nothing else does. I suppose in a pinch it kills twin targets as well. I feel like this will definitely make a few sideboards at least.

Check out the thread for my cube if you have the time, and tell me how terrible it is.
Generals meant to be drafted first in a single pack of 6 cards.
And here is the actual cube, meant to be drafted in 4 regular sized packs. (60 card decks)

Most sideboards have access to more conventional hate against Affinity. A 3-drop conditional removal spell is really weak in that format.
Now, as I say that, I think Brutal Expulsion could see some Modern play, and that's a full mana more expensive than Disregard. But Expulsion has a ton of utility to back it up, while Disregard does one single narrow thing.

Marsh Gas - "Comes right outta th' ground. If ya can smell it, it's too late." —Keevy Bogsbury Ohran Yeti - When a snowdrift shows you its eyes, it's already too late. Spawnwrithe - Its victims feel only an itchy, wriggling feeling just under their skin. By then, it's far too late. Thunderfoot Baloth - If you hear it, it's too late. Murk Strider - If you can see it, it's too late.
With so many people echoing this sentiment, I feel like I'm taking crazy pills.
It's a three mana removal spell restricted to weak creatures. It's colorless for targeting purposes, but for casting cost it's black, a color which has no problem removing creatures. Are people thinking this is CMC and not power?
I quite like Drana, conceptually speaking: she's a vampire lord with a universal version of the "vampire" ability: she feeds, and all of her forces grow stronger. Has evasion to trigger that ability much more easily, and has First Strike so that most everyone else gets the bonus before they crash into the enemy blockers. Both very Vorthos and very Mel. Glad to see that the spoiler was correct about all of that - only disappointment is the mythic rarity, because goddamn do I want to get my hands on this card.

Drana permanently pumps all your creatures and, because it hits first, it pumps before they deal damage. That's a good lord-wanna-be for a vampire or ally deck
Ya...its a fantastic finnisher for any aggro deck. Lets compare the difference.
3 cmc vs 3cmc
Vampire vs Vampire Ally (drana wins here as she works with 2 different tribals)
2/3 vs 2/3
Deathtouch vs First Strike (I will give the nighthawk this one. The ability to trade up is more powerful)
Lifelink vs permanently pumping up your creatures every time she deals combat damage. (This should be obvious)
Drana is a win-con if not dealt with. She puts an amazing ammount of pressure on your opponent if played in an aggro deck and she does all of this for just 3 mana. Think about having her curve into Vampire Nocturnus. We're looking at some SERIOUS damage here people. All your other vampires would potentially have +3/+2 and Flying. Then the next turn potentially +4/+3 and flying. Thats a quick clock.
The Nighthawk is cool for trading up but its a bit win-more in an aggro deck. You should be focusing on reducing your opponents life total to 0 with Drana instead of slowing down your opponent with the Nighthawk.
One negative side to Drana is she doesn't work quite as well with other first strikers like Vampire Hexmage. So that needs to be taken under consideration as well.
She's mythic because she's an iconic character and her ability plays with the phases in a weird way. I have never seen a card worded like that before.
Markov Blademaster did it for herself, which was always fun to point out.
For herself...that has been done a few times. Drana pumps up herself AND every other attacking creature. Its a monsterous difference. Not to mention she pumps them up before they deal regular combat damage. I have never seen another card that puts +1/+1 counters on creatures specifically inbetween the firststrike and regular strike phases. Thats unique

Blademaster used the phases in the same way and, I was told, was the first card to do so. Granting 1/1 counters to the whole army is much older.

The uniqe part is putting +1/+1 counters on OTHER creatures in between phases.... Name another card that does this.
Are you saying Mikaeus, the Unhallowed doesn't have a unique ability because other creatures had undying first?

I never argued that it wasn't a unique ability. What I was saying is that all the components of the ability have happened before. Blademaster put counters on by utilizing first strike damage, thus changing the combat math. As for cards that can put +1/+1 counters on an entire army that is an old ability. The first instance I could find of what you are asking is from Ravnica block, by giving Borborygmos first strike, whichcouldbedoneseveralways.
Drana is obviously amazing. That the ability affects her means she can run away with a game if not answered and pumping your team puts victory even further out of your opponent's reach.
Complete Disregard is both a nice removal and a good enabler for Processor cards that come later, I guess one can take down a creature with it, so on the next turn kill another one with the 3/2 guy that eats an exiled card to toss a -3/-3 on another critter, or for that 5-mana 4/5 Deranged Hermit wannabe
I'd like an explanation of why Drana went from a 3BB4/4 board dominator...dominatrix? to a puny 2/3 1BB aggro creature, no matter that it looks actually good, especially considering it costs 3 mana in a set where pretty much every creature is either a lumbering beast for a ton of mana or utility/ETB creatures from 3 CMC onwards, it still feels kinda dumb when you look at it, maybe they're experiencing a blood shortage in Malakir with all those Eldrazi running around so she has to drink less...being mythic will probably push its price higher than it should.
Complete Disregard is quite playable in my opinion, it has great synergy with all the Processors, of which the bouncing guy isn't probably the best so far though, for 4 CMC and a required setup I'd rather take the counterspell effect, or the much better Wasteland Strangler.
I just love the illustration for Benthic Infiltrator, but that slender body makes zero sense as a 1/4, it looks like a 2/1 to me, even the 2/2 drone guy looks way sturdier than this.

My thoughts exactly, at first.
But then again, the colorless and mostly the EXILE (which black doesn't have, unless I forget something) factor are good. I still have to see if it's AS good as people pretend, but useful nevertheless.
Black has gotten some exile effects in recent years. The most memorable one I can remember off the top of my head is sever the bloodline . I believe it started the trend.
Upon closer inspection, black has a whopping three exile effects in standard right now. gild, king macar, the gold cursed, and silence the believers. I think we can expect more exile effects to be black going forward. Let's be honest here. Exiling is super-death , and black is ostensibly supposed to be best at removing creatures.
There is something in zendikar's water that makes people completely disregard cmc when evaluating cards. For 3 cmc you're better off using ruinous path as removal. At least that will kill all the rhinos and tasigurs that are so extremely prevalent.
MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.

Real hard choice there
