I hope we can get a card of him playing football in a tuxedo with the other mana dorks...

This should have been an uncommon. The only reason why it was made at rare was because of limited. I suppose this at uncommon makes allies.dec much stronger but even then I just don't see it. 2 restrictions on a 1/1 mana dork for 2 seems pretty bad. This must be the reason Elvish Mystic was not reprinted.
A 2 cmc mana dork would warp limited? Aren't they *supposed* to be giving us access to good amounts of mana fixing for limited, if sunburst 2.0 is a thing? I mean fifth dawn was overrun with pentad prisms and dawn's reflections.
This isn't part of some nefarious 'creatures-only' agenda by Wizards, this is clearly just a plant for the ally deck, which is going to play mostly creatures anyways. If you want a mana dork with no restrictions, we have Rattleclaw Mystic in standard still, which is a good card. This card isn't even a consideration for you unless you're playing the Ally deck.
The haste is odd on this card in a vacuum, but it makes a lot of sense given the deck this guy is obviously supposed to be in. The haste doesn't matter much turn 2, except for the fact that he can bash your opponent if they're open, which is relevant but not super important. But later in the game, you can drop him, trigger some rally effects, and immediately swing in with him, and he'll also benefit from the rally triggers and get stronger. The haste also lets you occasionally play 2 spells in a turn when you could normally only cast one, but the interaction with Rally is why it has haste. It makes the card a less miserable topdeck, which is what mana dorks generally suffer from being. In context, this card actually seems pretty powerful, as it's a perfectly fine manadork early that lets you play more colors, and later in the game if you topdeck him, you get some use out of him as well.
Personally, I like this trend of multipurpose mana dorks we have with this, Gnarlroot Trapper, Shaman of Forgotten Ways, and Rattleclaw Mystic. These are all much more relevant later game cards than Elvish Mystic, and have more dimensions to their play other than "drop this turn 1 or 2 or it's useless to you". Elvish Mystic might be more powerful for certain decks, but it isn't as interesting.
I had to create an account on here just to tell you all that you are one SUPER JADED crowd.
Man, MTG players these days have no idea how good they have it. Go back 10+ years and a card like this would have had everyone drooling. Nowadays if it doesn't tap for a million mana, with haste, with indestructible, with power/toughness 999/999 then it's "not good enough".
Get over yourselves. Not every card has to be better than every other card made before it.
This card is awesome.
period.
This is a fallacy. Just because this card is better than a 10+ years card (which isn't since Birds of Paradise has been around since Alpha, but for the sake of argument let's just pretend that BoP never existed) doesn't mean that it has acceptable power level. Comparing trash to even worse trash is not a good way of evaluating cards, period. What you just said is akin to something along the lines of "How can you be mad at Reave Soul! It will be played in Standard because it's the only removal we have" (again let's pretend it for the sake of argument) and complaining about how 10 years ago we had to use Swat.
And this all comes from someone who has been playing since Onslaught.
I dont even need an argument, I play since unlimited.
So i win!

That part was meant for people that use the slippery slope of "newer players are spoiled" or something along those lines. Not my fault if you decide to skip on everything and cherry pick on that instead of adding meaningful insight in order to bait a reaction, though.
Don't underate the Haste and Ally creature type. He's an accelerater that won't be worthless late game because he'll trigger Ally buffs and will actually fight.
Don't understand all the gripe about the rarity of this card? Bird of Paradise has always been a rare, and it's obvious that BoP is considered too powerful by today's standards, so this is basically the new BoP. I do agree that the creature restriction is a bit too much, especially with all those Converge spells.
I'm calling it right now- worst rare in the set. Even good limited players will find better bombs at common and uncommon no sweat. Worst. Episode. Ever.
I really do predict this to be our worst rare in set award winner. I'd be happier opening a jar of eyeballs, so I think anything worse is highly unlikely. This card wont just have zero constructed potential, but not be significantly better than a mass of ghouls in a draft.

Where are the 1-drop allies to take advantage of haste?

Birds of Paradise is a 1-drop that gives you tons of options on turn 2. This guy is a 2-drop with a harsh restriction that gives you very few options on turn 2.
Where are the 1-drop allies to take advantage of haste?
My guess is common and uncommon, which tend to be the last cards to get spoiled. Don't be so hasty to judge cards who's power level is entirely dependent on the power level of the strategy they belong in.

Comparing this to Birds of paradise makes about as much sense as comparing Draining Whelk to Counterspell. The cards are only superficially similar and don't serve the same function.

Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.

It's all fun and games in Battlecruiser Magic until they reprint Hada Freeblade and the guy on the other end of the table is just crapping out Ally triggers.
They just spoiled a couple of Eldrazi commons today. We'll ostensibly see all the cheaper Allies by the end of the week. But beyond that, the haste isn't the most powerful when you want to put out another 1-drop Ally, it's there later on in the game so you can trigger the Ally abilities and swing in immediately after casting it or bringing it back with Rally or the Ally March sorcery.
Comparing this to Birds of paradise makes about as much sense as comparing Draining Whelk to Counterspell. The cards are only superficially similar and don't serve the same function.
Sorry, but that's nonsense. Mana dorks are mana dorks. They serve the same role. One is just magnitudes better than the other.
thats fair. I wasn't really complaining, just saying the card doesnt read very excitingly. Lotus Cobra was a hella cool two drop ramper, and there are plenty of other cool ones. You are right though, I hadnt considered dropping more than one in one turn.
Personally, I prefer good ol' llanowar elves and its ilk.
Is it good? eh, maybe. Its not bad, but it isnt going to take the slots of other acceleration for me

People seem to be fixated on the Ally creature type, and I can understand why, but I think the fact that he's also an Elf is getting overlooked. Of the two, I think its certainly possible that being an elf is going to be even more relevant than being an ally.
Sorry, but that's nonsense. Mana dorks are mana dorks. They serve the same role. One is just magnitudes better than the other.
You're an idiot if you don't understand that Beastcaller is designed for Allies. In allies, Beastcaller is better than either mystic or birds. Birds and mystic are generally more powerful. If your building good stuff, run those. If you want to build a deck like allies, then you need to rely on synergy, and running something like birds over beastcaller makes all of your allies weaker. Birds is better, but in the deck beastcaller fits into (allies/elves?), Beastcaller is better. Mana dorks are not just mana dorks. Heritage Druid isn't a bad Birds because its only good in elf Ball. Manaweft sliver isn't a bad birds because its only good in slivers. Beastcaller isn't a bad Birds becuase its only good in allies(elves?).
The way you are analyzing and approaching these cards is simplistic and ultimately useless. If you aren't thinking about the environment a card is in, then you are doing it wrong.

But hey, if there are people who look at this and say,"O swweeet!" well then hey, more power to them

Good card any card that can add any color should be rare this makes 5 color ally decks mana base really good
Um...no? It's restricted to creatures...that's a huge restriction.
