What an odd card. I much would have preferred this to be the black rare and have given it trample or something instead. It's really good though, I like it a lot! I hope there's a lot of Scion producing cards.
It's not better than Sentinel or Skysnare spider in the context of the set. This card is big for its mana cost but there are way bigger creatures in battle fro Zendikar, so you can't just plop this guy down and expect it to be the biggest card for the rest of the game. It also doesn't stop fliers like the other two cards do. It's still really really good, as it beats face, will probably be the biggest card on the table until turn 8 or so, blocks anything that's not an Eldrazi on the ground, and recurs itself with some help.
It's kind of crazy how big creatures you can get for colorless mana in these Eldrazi sets. A colorless 6/6 vigilance for 6 at uncommon, even without the other ability, would be a pretty high pick in most draft formats.
I'm really wondering whats going on a limited format after seeing this. All the other big beefs at common/uncommon, they're all 8+ cmc and are lost in a trade. I get that you're supposed to plop an ulamogs 2.0 and be able to stabilize and block and dwarf this guy, but coming down 2-3 turns later, and god forbid you miss more land drops on the way, and that this can trade with a combat trick or another weenie and then recur?
So far, worse. Ulamog's Crusher was a common, and there were a bunch of huge Uncommons. It was pretty much stall, stall, Haymaker, die. Or you'd survive long enough to tap everyone down with that white kor thingy and peck away. I did not enjoy it.
Each to his own, but RoE is widely acknowledged as one of the best limited formats ever. Ironically, Zendikar is considered one of the worst, so BFZ is a mix between the best and the worst.

Everyone I know hated RoE limited. Ulamog's Crusher and hyper-efficient Spawn generators and... ugh.

You mean widely regarded as one of the worst. From word of mouth and statistically.

It is widely regarded as one of the best by very enfranchised players and professional players. The limited environment was very deep, was incredibly unique, and had several things you could draft. The format was *also* widely hated by newer players at the time for being confusing, overwhelming, and counterintuitive to how drafting was normally done. Mark Rosewater has, several times, cited how the format is beloved by many of the pros who drafted it often, but they've shied away from making sets in the vein of RoE in terms of limited because of how polarizing it was.
In Drafts and Sealed i made fun of razorfield-thresher if somebody wanted to play it, as it has clearly in capital letters "DANGER" writen on it, so play it at your own risk.
I'm convinced the mythic uncommon cards are done on purpose. Maybe it's a way of reaching the right amount of bombs in limited while being able to use the rare slots for gimmicky and experimental cards.

For my part, I adored the format. Drafting the UR Kiln Fiend deck was a blast.
I agree that ROE was an amazing and unique draft experience. It is the only time I did really well on a consistent basis, so I'm always down for another battlecruiser environment. Not sure if BFZ will be exactly the same, but here's hoping it's in the same vein...

Yeah, a lot of people don't seem to realize how awful RoE was for newer players. It was the most fun I've ever had with a draft, but like you said, it was very complex and counter-intuitive. Nowadays all of the newer and more casual players that I come across are at pre-releases. It's a great place for them to show up and play on more equal terms with the older players, and get a bunch of cool new stuff while they're at it. Because of that, I doubt we'll ever see a standard set with a limited environment even close to as complex as RoE. That's kind of what the New World Order was all about, after all. We're probably going to have to stick to stuff like conspiracy and MM for more complex draft and limited environments.
Well the art and ability seem to suggest that said eldrazis favorite musical combination is the great orator Lil-John and the acoustic minstrel DJ Snake. Turn down for What! indeed.
They should have made this a rare. Don't get me wrong, I love it, but I definitely think that it should have been like a black devoid Eldrazi rare with trample instead.

Even Rare 6/6'es for six used to come with all kinds of drawback. There was a reason Balduvian Horde cost $20 : )

You mean Craw Wurm. Yavimaya Wurm has trample where as Razorfield Thresher doesn't.
