I actually am excited for coastal discovery. Seems like a great enabler for jeskia tokens/combo. Not to mention being a great card for pure control. It's not a mulldrifter but it's a great finisher that takes up 0 slots. If we don't get man lands this will do.

I suspect there are some Awaken cards that will make small lands, but if they want us to be able to chain awaken cards together to make lands that can combat Eldrazi, then this will be a wonderful mechanic. I hope they don't mess it up.

Your criticism is weak, and the comparison to Cipher is beyond dubious. Awaken is a Kicker mechanic, and will only be poor if they get too safe with the costing of the cards. Cipher is not even functionally the same.

It's not bad, but it's significantly worse at sorcery speed. I don't want awaken at instant speed, I just want my Downfalls back. That this card exists is very bad for control decks. It plays so poorly with permission.

Imo this is the case were they have to pick between a more awesome limited environment against a slightly more constructed worthy cards. And when it comes down to common/uncommon there's no doubt what the priorities are.
