MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.
Also, guess this is the Anger of the Gods equivalent for the new standard. Not quite as good most of the time, but it's actually easier to cast for 3-color decks, which is a plus.
...so I guess there might be support for 3-color decks in BFZ after all?

"The true measure of all heroes is not what they achieve, but who they inspire." —Triumph of Gerrard
So in most cases this is a much worse Anger of the Gods, or am I missing something?
Depends. Being variable gives it some upside as you can play this alongside your own X/3's and X/2's and not kill them while dealing with X/1's. This is more important in Modern than standard since there are a lot of X/1's. Being it only has a single red pip, makes it much easier to cast which is relevant. Of course the exile clause is relevant in modern and standard, so if you can cast RR spells reliably on T3 then Anger is probably better. For me though, I highly value being able to cast my spells on-time and reducing variance as much as I can, so I value the ease on the mana-base single color spells are.
The downside to this though, is sometimes you won't be able to only cast this for 1 because your mana doesn't allow it. If you have Hallowed Fountain, Steam Vents, Steam Vents for example, well you can't cast this for X=1 for instance. I feel like there should have been a way to word the card to get around this so you aren't punished for certain lines you want to take and how your mana lines up.
The uncommon Pyroclasm seems so much better. This will not go off for 3 often I think
That depends. We just had a multicolor block, so...
Also, was that deliberate? Counter-focused block (okay, also enchantments, but you have to admit, a lot of heroic cards use +1/+1 counters, and it also is an element of tribute and monstrosity), multicolor block, Zendikar...

Card advantage is not the same thing as card draw. Something for 2B cannot be strictly worse than something for BBB or 3BB. If you're taking out Swords to Plowshares for Plummet, you're a fool. Stop doing these things!

Hmm, I wonder if they'll bring back something similar to Fist of Suns to take full advantage of these pseudo sunburst cards.
In the set? Hard to say. But I did realize today that the Fist will work great with Converge spells. Add Chromatic Lantern for autofix and go to town! Bloom Tender really helps too of course. And she definitely could be reprinted in BfZ.

For some reason I doubt that they want people casting Desolation Twin for 5 mana...
Radiant Flames 2R

Converge - ~ deals X damage to each creature, where X is the number of colors of mana spent to cast ~.

However, the colour choice condition seems very interesting.

On phasing:
Bloom Tender
And we've already got an in-flavor reason for it! (See: Nissa and the Seeds)
You can't spend more mana than the spell can "take."
4 * 1/2 + 1 = 3

I did not think about using the half-mana for it.
So yes, I suppose that would work.
My bad.

Storm Crow is strictly worse than Seacoast Drake.
