I think the reason why there isn't any lifelink on this is because it will be going in the same standard environment as Siege Rhino (making it a gain 3 and drain 6 card) and rally the ancestors can bring both back at once. That is also probably why it costs 7 mana, it makes the creature harder for spells that care about CMC to recurr.
Sanguine Bond + a 2 drop 4/5 flier
Useable. Lifelink on this guy would be ridiculous.
Being a creature rather than an enchantment is not a plus. That would be like saying Magus of the Moat is a Moat with a free 0/3.
Funny, whenever I see an enchantment that does cool stuff, everyone insists it would have been better as a creature because "At least it impacts the board state".
Bottom line, any deck currently using Sanguine Bond may as well switch to this guy. Between Bond, Exquisite Blood, Vizkopa Guildmage, and this guy, I'm thinking a pretty sweet B/W Commander deck is in the works.

You don't call "dying to removal" if the removal is more expensive in resources than the creature. If you have to spend BG (Abrupt Decay), or W + basic land (PtE) to remove a 1G, that is not "dying to removal". Strictly speaking Goyf dies to removal, but actually your removal is dying to Goyf.

If you're at a point where you can spend 9 mana to briefly reanimate him and Siege Rhino, why aren't you KILLING THEM?

A nine mana spell that requires graveyard setup should absolutely win you the game.
I'm not saying Rallying this creature is a good gameplan, I was saying that they probably made the CMC so high on this that it wouldn't be feasible to run in a rally deck.
I think this set might be a little underpowered since zendikar block standard was the last block in which WOTC needed to ban two cards from standard. At the very least, this block won't be the best for control players. I don't think WOTC would live it down if the return of Zendikar also heralded the return of a control dominated meta in standard.
Well, that would be one way to avoid a repeat of the GP Miami fiasco. (Much as I want to live the dream and Rally this out simultaneously with 4 Clerics of the Forward Order, a Mastery of the Unseen deck would be a much better place for it.)
I know at least two people that are big Sanguine Bond fans, so this is definitely going to make them happy. Which also makes this excellent trade fodder for me if I pull one - so long as it has value to someone I know, that gives it value for me.

Not a terrible card, I kinda like it. But yeah if it had lifelink, would have been seriously stronger.
What really has me more excited is knowing that Drana, my favourite vampire and first Legend from when I started, is still around. And still fighting the good fight against the Eldrazi. I seriously want to see her get her own card again. She was a powerhouse last time round. Am curious to see what they might do with her this time.
Everyone asking for a lifelink is crazy. This couldn't stay rare or cost 7 with lifelink due to the fact that it would then attack for 8 (gaining 4) unblocked or just draining for 4 anyway from a creature that blocks it (potentially killing it cuz it's fat with 5 toughness). Extremely hard to win against without removal. You gotta know it once you play against it, and someone gives it lifelink.

It would have certainly been much better, but I think it would have been justified at 7 mana. Definitely would have been a high end rare at that point though. We've seen heavy hits like this at rare before.

Sanquin Bond is not bad especially good that this is nonlegendary, lifegain if you have him out becomes a wincon rather then just stall. But thats my limited thinking.
Except Butcher's ability works with himself and functions as pseudo protection. (The ability also just functions beautifully as a normal game of magic is played out, since creatures inevitably die.) Bloodlord's ability does nothing by itself and you've got a 7 mana 4/5.
Would have been intriguing as a 4/4 flyer for 3BB with the ability. Or as others have said, as a legend, so it would have commander functionality at least. Guess this gives redundancy to your Exquisite Blood combo at least.
MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.

The flavor text is really neat, yeah.

This. I would hope this isn't indicative of the power level of the set in general.

Development discussions be bonkers scared about power level in standard.
Edit: ... unless you go for style point and draft life-gain cards after p1p1 this for the lol.
It's 7 mana - it should be insane.
Dragonlord Atarka is the power level we're talking about.

You missed the point. And Moat is still better than Sanguine Bond.
