The prerelease boxes, that used to be packed by 20, are packed by 18 for BFZ. This was confirmed by Wizards employee, and we shall learn something more very soon.
Thoughts? Could there be six prerelease packs instead of five? Five colors, ev. factions, and a sixth, colorless Eldrazi one?

That's pretty interesting, an eldrazi one would make the most sense given what we know at this time (zip). Would be interested in finding out how they manage the power level of the eldrazi vs other boxes.

If it were just two factions, that could happen anyway. 18 from the usual 20 hints at 3s, 6s, or just cost change. Maybe the prerelease boxes are just costing more nowadays? Either way, 18 is not divisible by 5.
"For the Battle for Zendikar Prerelease, each player will receive a special hedron-themed Prerelease pack that they can use after the event as a take-home deck box. Inside each Prerelease box, there will be six Battle for Zendikar Booster packs along with a randomized, date-stamped premium promo card and a spindown life counter."
Stores owner are going to be happy about the randomised promos. They were always left with heaps of the same colour boxes by the time of the last pre-release of the weekend

Especially after the "new" seeded pack lasting exactly one set - Origins. It is probably good. But it would be a hell for anyone who would like to collect all the possible promos

As if collecting 30-40 PR promos wasn't hell for collectors, this makes it almost impossible (without spending tons of $$$ to get what you need from ebay/vendors etc.). We're talking about ~15 possible Mythics and about ~55 Rares. Insane.
I just imagine the value of a promo enemy fetchland (if they do reprint them in BFZ)
That is good news. The seeded packs and the obvious power of some colours or colour combinations against others made the prereleases very predictable and resulted in repeated games.
They show that they want to go away from seeded packs in Origins prerelease. The 7 cards you could get, gave you the oportunity to build something else outside of your chosen colour with the other 6 boosters.
My only hope as for now it's that the hedron boxes are not made of cardboard (like I think Gatecrash prerelease?) and they could be seriously used as deckboxes after. Cheap plastic would do the job.
Well, we have a month before we know anything new. Let's wait.

No seeded pack is good news and should be a very popular change. If I had a quarter for every time I heard/read somebody complain about the seeded packs, it would pay for my prerelease. It's about time.

The end of seeded packs is good news. As for the factions, I think it would be a fresh idea, like choosing between Allies, Eldrazi or Elemental Zendikar forces for instance.
How do factions work in a prerelease without seeded packs? I liked the idea knowing if I chose red, I'd get a pack guaranteed with red cards in it. Now without seeded packs, how do we choose colours/factions? Do you just have to hope you get enough cards of said faction to build a deck for it?
Or, you know, there would be no factions anymore?

So there will be no difference from a prerelease to a regular sealed event?
Except that you get a supposedly cool box and a stamped promo foil, yes.
Maybe we get factions again in the future where it actually matters - in worlds like Ravnica, Tarkir or Alara...

My thought exactly, and they *have* to know this.
Hopefully they'll make more than 1/6 colorless if they go that route.
Reprint Stasis!

Says you'll get a hedron box, but the problem is that means you get less of some colours than others.
You know, I have not noticed a difference in how my prereleases play out with or with out the seeded pack, so good riddance if it is being thrown out.

As the guy that collects prerelease promos, dammit!
There is probably no picking of colors/factions/whatnot. It's probably a single box that everyone gets with 6 packs and the random promo.
