I can't recall seeing "destroy target creature whose power and toughness aren't equal" before. Interesting card! Kudos to Wizards for making a lot of really neat designs in Origins.
That's a complicated way to say target rhino. But if elves becomes a standard collected company deck I'm not sure if this guy fits in. He's extremely powerful though, remind me of Nekatrayl or whatever that card is. Lol.
Neat targeting restriction, and flavorful for lorwyn elves, but this didn't need to be rare. And kind of a flavor fail that it isn't equal p/t itself. Man, I would have loved this as a 2/2 for 1BB or a 3/3 for 2BB.
I think we found the second rare behind Dwynen, Gilt-Leaf Daen in her intro pack. Not a bad card: 4/3 with evasion (first Menace card we've seen in Black, unless I'm mistaken...which is funny, since it's supposed to be primary in it and we've already gotten a couple in Red) that doubles as a kill spell that hits an awful lot of Standard-relevant cards. Plus Elf tribal, of course. And Warrior tribal, for that matter, but I think a 5-drop is a bit pricey for the Warrior aggro decks.

This is kinda bad....the only thing that makes is slightly ok is the fact that it's an elf. It costs about one mana too much.

"I'd say this about guarantees that it won't be up till this Friday, but considering the current track record, the ETA is now probably two weeks after the set has been out."

Yes, it absolutely does have to be rare. Limited design doesn't allow for cards like FTK at uncommon anymore. Not to mention it's got a unique effect.
Hmmm, perhaps. Are you saying that Shriekmaw or Nekrataal would have to be rare if printed today too? What about dudes with more unusual targeting restrictions, like bala ged scorpion, big game hunter (both also unique), or fleshpulper giant? I don't think "conditionally destroy a creature" automatically means it has to be rare, though I realize with these stats and menace it would be too pushed for uncommon.
Interestingly, this is the only creature in the current Standard pool that destroys another creature as an EtB. That in and of itself makes it interesting with all sorts of things like, say, Whip of Erebos. The removal is pretty conditional, but there are *alot* of removal worthy creatures in Standard with mismatched P/T. Oh. And none of them are elves currently.
It will definitely see play in standard. Its ability kills most relevant midrange creatures in standard including tasigur, siege rhino, ojutai, courser, hornets nest, etc. It doesn't kill any of the creatures in mardu dragons or kill tokens not made by wingmate roc however. It will be meta dependant but when its good its good. In many cases I imagine it is basically inblockable because they won't have two blockers after one gets destroyed.

Anyway, neat card.
Hm, I think it depends on how conditional the removal part is and how relevant the body is. The main thing is that they're really shying away from consistent and easy 2-for-1's with removal (see a recent Ars Arcanum where one of the main conclusions is that card advantage with removal has trended down strongly). I think Shriekmaw could somewhat easily be a rare under current standards, though that might give it room to be buffed a bit. Big Game Hunter could probably pass as an uncommon, being a 1/1, but Hidden Dragonslayer at a 3/2 lifelink is rare and considered a very, very good pick. Bala Ged Scorpion runs the other way, with a somewhat relevant size, but very narrow removal function.
I guess I don't have a good sense of exactly how conditional the removal on this is though. I feel like it'll hit most relevant things, but I guess we'll have to see the rest of the set to know for sure.

Could be that he/she is jealous and doesn't think others should have an uneven p/t since he/she does? I think most elves in the set are uneven.
As for the card itself... I'm bummed. Yet another modern unplayable.
new players as they show up maybe twice with some budget deck they've spent the week designing and testing only to be beaten into oblivion by expensive decks they cannot hope to obtain and I think this is a tragedy.
Probably playable in elves, though it doesn't work with coco. A not-terrible body with evasion with plenty of targets to kill on ETB is pretty good. I doubt it sees play anywhere but elves (except maybe as a sideboard card), but still decent. There really aren't many things this misses (though missing stormbreath and Thunderbreak hurts in that matchup). If it kills something, pretty hard for them to block the menace in most cases as well.
Looks...interesting. Not gonna make it in Modern, but maybe Standard Elves?
Seems strong. Nekrataals are good, and coming on a big, evasive body is even better.

Storm Crow is strictly worse than Seacoast Drake.

This is kind of funny. Absurdly specific black destroy effects a sign of things to come?
UTeferi, Temporal ArchmageU's prison: blue is the new orange is the new black.
Mizzix Of The Izmagnus : wheels on fire... rolling down the road...
BSidisi, Undead VizierB: Bis zum Erbrechen
GTitiania, Protector Of ArgothG: Protecting Argoth, by blowing it up!
GYisan, The Wanderer BardG: Gradus Ad Elfball.
Duel EDH: Yisan & Titania.
In Progress: Grand Arbiter Augustin IV duel; Grenzo, Dungeon Warden Doomsday.
