Chandra, Torch of Defiance - Oops! All Chandras.
Prime Speaker Zegana - Draw for Power.
Pir & Toothy - Counterpalooza.
Arcades, the Strategist - Another Brick in the Wall.
Zacama, Primal Calamity - Calamity of Double Mana.
Edgar Markov - Vampires Don't Die.
Child of Alara - Dreamcrusher.
It's that thing from Spellslingers! At it doesn't suck as much as everyone expected it to!
Could see play in Green Devotion for as long as Nylea is still around. After, though...we may need a viable way to either give this guy evasion or Haste to keep it around.
Weaker than Kalonian Hydra but probably better placed in this meta than Hydra was (not to mention Hyrda was trumped by Mizzium Mortars, a card that was played to kill Blood Baron).
I think this gets better when Theros goes away. There's a few cards that incidentally answer this in Theros block (Stormbreath, Arbor Colossus) and of course Hero's Downfall.
Probably on the lower fringes of Constructed playable.
Hmmm I really wish his unblockability was opposite, like menace, and he couldn't be blocked by ONLY one creature. And doesn't that make a lot more sense flavor-wise too? He's so big that it takes multiple dudes to get in his way? Especially after he gets renown, your opponent will never WANT to double block him anyway. He's too big and he'll kill everything.
Either way, 6/6 for 5 with two abilities = I'm ok with this!
Oh dear lord... I have been waiting for a giant with this epic of art and the card being good. Green has so many ways to grant Trample these days that giving this guy evasion is just awesome!

Yeah, but menace is for red and black. Green gets the opposite.

Yeah, it died to just about everything under the sun at the time and dying to red based removal was, IMO, the nail in the coffin. You had to drop it and pray it survived the turn, plus it wasn't great on the defensive either. The meta wasn't even remotely conducive to it.
Outland Colossus isn't very good..I kind of want to see the hydra get another go at standard now.

It is kind of amusing that he has what they call the stalking ability instead of menace. Don't exactly see this guy stalking anything successfully. lol
It never saw play at any high level(The only good Green Aggressive deck was Selesnya last, year and they certainly did no play the Hydra). This card is much worse than that one. It's just a big dumb creature, doesn't do anything when it comes into play, and dies to everything. You'd always want Whisperwood Elemental instead.

agreed. it's actually really irritating that they gave it an ability that is basically useless for it and doesn't even match the flavor. Almost like they just threw another line of text in their to make it seem like it was better or had more stuff. Would have rather they didn't even have it.
I understand trample would have made it OP but couldn't they think of something else?

I'm of the opinion that Kalonian Hydra should be reprinted in every standard set until it sees legitimate play because the card is badass.

Im glad that Wizards resisted their urge to push it although I would have surely played it.
