1. It's a sac outlet.
2. It's an engine for decks with recurring dudes like Bloodghast, Gravecrawler and friends
3. It's a way for you to replace your dudes that would be killed anyway as it doesn't have any timing restrictions.
4. It's a combo piece in a token deck with just a few creatures that you need to tutor up.
It's not in the same league as Survival of the Fittest but it's certainly VERY powerful in plenty of decks.
I'll SURELY get a playset of this ASAP, unless it's selling for top dollars from start.
if it's below US$5,00 I'll pre order a playset....
this thing will see play somewhere.
Chances of this being below 5 bucks preorder are between .000001 and .00000000000000001. Too much comparison to two banned in legacy cards for it to preorder so low. That said, I'm picking up a set.
at least... it's not mythic. It's not common having rares that aren't dual or fetchlands sold above US$10,00 at release.
if it's not stupid expensive at release I'll grab a playset, if it's stupid expensive, I'll wait until the dust settles and get the stupid expensive then... lol.
pre release prices are crazy.
you never know which decent deals you may get
Yeah, I agree. I am happy it is not mythic. It won't be stupid expensive. But I expect it will start above 10 a pop. Whatever the case, if it is cheap, I will buy it right away, if it is expensive, I will hold a short bit, but watch for it showing up on major events. If somebody runs the town with it, I know it will pop instantly.

RIP Batman guy. I hope somebody picks up the slack now that you are gone. Sick children need their Batman.
This actually seems REALLY good. I bet there will be some combo deck with this, a bunch of tokens, and a fattie to cheat out.
it doesn't cheat anything out...
it just tutors dudes for your hand.
it's not supposed to work like Oath of Druids, it's way harder to abuse.
but in decks with just a few key creatures and a lot of tokens it may be used as a powerful tutor.
in decks with Bloodghast and friends, this is a powerful draw engine, and in a deck with lots of creatures, it's plain value, as you can cycle creatures that would die anyway or the ones that are not relevant in combat anymore at a given point.

Survival of the Fittest was my first thought too. Having to sac a creature is definitely a bigger cost, but can certainly work with recursive dudes like Bloodghast.
Also, you know, tokens, death triggers, blah blah blah.

Card advantage is not the same thing as card draw. Something for 2B cannot be strictly worse than something for BBB or 3BB. If you're taking out Swords to Plowshares for Plummet, you're a fool. Stop doing these things!
Or worse, when your Caryatid "evolves" into an Elf.
Still, it should say something about how good this card seems that no one even mentioned the flavor fail in the first 65 posts

So it's actually a flavor win, nothing is more perfect than a elf (say Lorwyn Elf)
I somehow find it tragic when an attacking Traveling Philosopher gets blocked by another Traveling Philosopher, which normally results in two dead philosophers. Shouldn't they just sit aside and start discussing?
"This is really exciting, so much to find out about, so much to look forward to, I'm quite dizzy with anticipation . . . Or is it the wind? There really is a lot of that now, isn't there? And wow! Hey! What's this thing suddenly coming toward me very fast? Very, very fast. So big and flat and round, it needs a big wide-sounding name like . . . ow . . . ound . . . round . . . ground! That's it! That's a good name- ground! I wonder if it will be friends with me? Hello Ground!"
Curiously enough, the only thing that went through the mind of the Sprouting Phytohydra as it fell was Oh no, not again.
Just because the name is Evolutionary Leap doesn't necessarily mean that jump is forward. =) Such a cool card! I'm so afraid that, somehow, the phrase "Activate this ability whenever you could cast a sorcery" accidentally didn't get translated. I'll feel a lot better tomorrow!
Persist and Undying make this pure gas. Young Wolf -> Strangleroot Geist -> Kitchen Finks off the top of my head sounds annoying. Vengevine could also use it to some abusive degree, with all their self-reanimating creatures.
I'm glad they didn't make it put the rest of the cards to the bin.
These last couple of sets are making it really tough to hate Green: Collected Company, Deathmist Raptor, Woodland Bellower...Evolutionary Leap. Probably not a coincidence that they're all potential card advantage engines. I'm hoping this pulls a Company and starts out going for way lower than it should be.

"The true measure of all heroes is not what they achieve, but who they inspire." —Triumph of Gerrard
I really like this card and have fond memories of playing in a bygone era when enchantments didn't have to be creatures to be relevant. I'd love for this to be a thing, but in the current state of Magic, cards that don't have an immediate impact have an uphill battle to work their way into constructed decklists. Maybe this is cheap enough and the effect strong enough to do the trick, but color me skeptical at the moment.
But in this case, I really wish it was a creature so it wasn't dead in multiples.
I won't be surprised at all if this forms the core of a new Modern deck.
It might be enough to make Modern Anafenza Aristocrats a thing, which would be sweet (it's in love with the CoCo as well). It might be enough to make a lot of things a thing, because it's the riskiest printing since Cruise/Dig.
Any option for a modern build with 4x this and only 3 or 4 finishers (Titans, BSC etc.)? There are plenty of cards like Khalni Garden, Origin Spellbomb, etc. that either create or become creatures on T1, is a T3 finisher without haste and counterspell back-up good enough for Modern these days?
Yup, I'd come to that same conclusion, which is actually a good thing, my initial testing with the incorrect version showed it would have been totally overpowered.
This card is good, regardless of my friends saying otherwise. Saccing a creature is more relevant than discarding a card often since you can sack a creature that would otherwise die.

Love the card, incredible nerf was almost certainly deserved.
