Gideon's Phalanx 5WW
Instant
Put four 2/2 white knight creature tokens with vigilance onto the battlefield.
Spell Mastery: If there are two instants /sorceries in graveyard, creatures you control gain indestructible until end of turn
Seems like it might be a decent finisher in a white control deck or maybe even abzan (though I think Hornet Queen is just better there). 8 power across four vigilance creatures is solid, instan speed with indestructible allows them to come in and block well, then swing back. Obvious downside is high mana cost, probably too high to see much play. I guess it gives a mono-white deck something to Nykthos ramp into?
Edit: knights, not soldiers, makes a lot more sense that they are 2/2
Same cost as Revel of the Fallen God, at instant speed but without haste so the tokens likely attack a turn later, though the spell mastery means it can also function as an outrageously expensive combat trick in a pinch, and the tokens are much better as both attackers and blockers because of vigilance.
On the other hand, Revel doesn't see play at all, and it's in the color combination most likely to ramp up to 7 mana in a reasonable timeframe. Maybe the fact that it's an instant matters in regards to what decks would consider playing it, but it's still an extremely high cost for a bunch of small tokens.

This is essentially an uncommon card for a rare slot. Nice job, Wizards.
If this were uncommon, limited decks could get WAY more access to it. In limited, 4 creatures (even 2/2s) does a ton to break board parity, and on top of that, this has the ability to also completely turn around an enemy that's attempting to alpha strike for the win and let you win instead (by letting you block all of their creatures and have indestructibility). Is it overly expensive for what it does? Arguably. I'd rather see it drop 2 2/2s with Vigilance and spell mastery for indestructible for 4 or 5, but there's NO way that the card as it is could be anything less than rare from a limited standpoint.
EDIT: On the topic of the card itself... Seems like a solid pick for limited if the format is slow enough (although with all of the 2/2s for 2 we've already seen, I get the feeling that it probably won't be), almost definitely won't see any constructed play. It kinda bugs me that the rare enabler for Gideon is MORE expensive than the rare enabler for Chandra, despite the fact that Chandra costs more than Kytheon does. Oh well.

The problem with defining this format by what is "fun" is that everyone seems to define fun as what they don't lose to. If you keep losing to easily answered cards, that means you should improve your deck. If you don't want to improve your deck, then you should come to peace with the idea that you are going to lose because you chose to not interact with better strategies.
Nah..it shouldn't be an uncommon, It is however a bit over-costed.

Wanted it so much to be Soldiers... but owell guess they don't do 2/2 soldiers.
Translation says 2/2 Soldier tokens...

Maybe EDH playable where the mana isn't as much of an issue and protecting your team from a board wipe is huge. But in Standard...heck no, this is terrible. Too expensive for aggro/token decks, and control just has much, much better options.

Except in EDH 2/2 don't matter. Just a fail of a card, playable nowhere except limited.
Hey look, a card that costs a ton of mana and is unplayable in EDH. But oh the blowouts that will be had in limited when your opponent is an idiot and attacks into your infinite untapped mana.
This is terrible in limmited as well where you have to wait to cast this at turn 8. Lets say you pull this and your opponent instead pulled a Thopter spy network. By the time you get 4 2/2s out on the field he would have had 4 1/1 flying thopters with card draw. This card is bad because it's not a very good finisher. A good finisher would be like Assemble the Legion.
Lol, assuming he had a random artifact in play before thopter squadron came down. I'm looking forward to people not RTFC and playing that into a board with no artifacts at the prerelease.

Mana is a huge issue in EDH - it's why so many decks rely on ramp and spend a good chunk of their game managing mana development. And when you compare this to all the other 7 drops you can play.... yeah, this is just bad. Look at this compared to Martial Coup for 7 or Secure the Wastes for 7 and it just sucks. EDH can get a comparable effect for 5 mana.

That's pretty expensive for a fancy Raise the Alarm.

Fine with me. Better uncommons and worse rares/mythics make the game less expensive to play, because the good cards are more readily available.
Bulk rares feel bad when you pull them, but they're actually a good thing in general (bulk mythics are even better!)
Without the what if and should if.
The only advantage.
Being an instant/surprise isn't variable reason when its TOO LATE. its just another blocker if its meant to be a surprise cast.
