Holy moly the price increase on the old Piledrivers... is that real or a buyout? Managed to buy 2 for 10 bucks at my LGS 2 days ago. But now I need 2 more :(.
Regarding the djinn, there are a few situations wherein it is different. I'll give you an example.
Fixed GrapeshotR
Instant
Fixed Grapeshot deals X damage, divided anyway you choose, to any number of target creatures and/or players, where X is the number of spells cast this turn.
still isn't as broken as the original, just because it can be countered. Though it does synergize with forks better.
A similar difference occurs here, albeit a far more niche example: Stifle and friends versus Strionic Resonator.
I should hope no one will complain about red's alleged lack of a card in the 'undercosted two-drop' cycle.
Now that I think about it, Sylvan Messenger was an odd fit for Apocalypse. Gold sets don't play well with tribal themes, except maybe slivers or allies. There were no elves at all in Masques, Prophecy, or Odyssey block. A 2/2 with trample...the only thing worse is a 1/1 with trample, which is also present in Invasion block. (I suppose if you regularly pay 8G for a 6/6 with trample...)

Card advantage is not the same thing as card draw. Something for 2B cannot be strictly worse than something for BBB or 3BB. If you're taking out Swords to Plowshares for Plummet, you're a fool. Stop doing these things!
At this point people only want kamigawa out of morbid curiosity or defiance. The original block was crap, the flavor was crap, the story was crap, and all but a few cards were crap. If your a weeb sure it makes sense to go back. From a business view kamigawa is a low sell. I hope we never go back. That plane can go to hell.
i think you dont know anything about Kamigawa. in fact, let me tell you something, i started playing in that block, and its problem was DESIGN and GAMEPLAY, because it was too much centered on itself and forgot that is a part of a "multiverse" made of other sets. If you evaluated the cards at that time, you could say that most of the cards were crap because they had no home in any deck when mirrodin was around. Now look at the set by the moment: is FULL OF COMBO PIECES in modern which some of them are banned and some of them are expensive cards. And this is some of them (which you should now try to compare the card power with other sets like Innistrad or Shards of Alara for example)

Lol. We aren't going back, get over it.
Only reason its had somewhat of a surge of popularity is becuase Americans have adopted this Japanese culture. And in the internet age, it reigns supreme.

he is right though. Theres no chance we're returning to kamigawa. It was an unpopular plane, and whether or not the mechanics are changed, there will be negative feelings with it. They can just as easily create a new plane with those mechanics too that doesnt have all the bitterness. Kamigawa was an all time low for draft design, and you can't wipe away peoples distasteful feelings from that. And if I remember correctly, at the time a lotta people didn't like the flavor either. So really all your going on here is a cult following, and a group of eternal format cards that could be in another plane and make no sense to reprint since they're awful for standard and draft. That isn't even close to enough to merit a return.

So if there's so much regret and bitterness from wizards and the magic community against kamigawa how come players loved the mechanics in both modern masters editions. And the statement about the all time low in draft is wrong since there's bunch of pros like Luis Scott Vargas that claim that kamigawa was one of the most fun limited and block sets ever. I really don't get what distasteful feelings are you talking bout

If there were any distasteful feelings, I think it's due to Saviors, which people felt ruined the format. CCC and CCB were quite good for Limited, especially compared to CBS (I hear, I was only really playing casually then). So I guess it depends on who you ask and what part they remember most.

Weeaboo is a common pejorative for Japanophiles
pejorative: A pejorative (also called a derogatory term,[1] derogative term, a term of abuse, or a term of disparagement) is a word or grammatical form expressing a low opinion of someone or something, or showing a lack of respect for someone or something.[2] It is also used as a criticism, hostility, disregard and/or disrespect.
Check your own priorities. Or just check your facts.
But on the note of what mtgsmsc6 has been saying, I personally had no idea what Japanese culture was before seeing Kamigawa (I was pretty young at the time) but I really loved the art work for some of the spirit cards and to this day I still remember the ninja deck I played with at the time and how fun it was to play.
And to be fair, the return to Ravnica block was a big let down for me when compared to the original set. So judging a return blocked based off the original set's success or lack thereof is a little foolish, it all depends on who is in the development team and you know what we have a different one now and they seem to be putting together something very nice while using a little Lorwyn flavor. So far the Lorwyn elf tribal in this set is coming out great.
The main reason we're likely to go back to Kamigawa is because it's directly tied into Nicol Bolas' plot, and again it's a setting that I'm sure the designers would like to get right. It'll happen eventually, just like all the other noteworthy planes that have been block highlights since 8th edition.
It probably won't happen until after Lorwyn and Alara get revisited, but it's certainly on the table and a few of the developers/designers have said as much.
Wizards print good rares, players complain about cash grab. They print underwhelming rares, players complain that the cards suck. They spoil the best cards first, players complain about the insane prices of preorders. They spoil the meh cards first, players complain that this is the worst set ever.
So. I think I understand now.
As far as these forums are concerned, WotC can never do anything good because:
Card that is new and probably good = "pushed"
Card that is new and probably bad = "EDH/casual fodder"
Card that is a reprint = "lazy"
Card that is a better version of an older card = "power creep"
Card that is a weaker version of an older card = "worthless"
Alright guys, let's break up all the insults and namecalling and focus on the spoiled cards, shall we?

Seeing Piledriver back puts a smile on my face, my first serious deck was ONS Goblins. and I thoroughly enjoyed the Goblin Gangland deck in DOTP 2013, something tells me the little guy will make some noise in T2 and who knows if it helps some Modern Goblin deck to show up.
And the new life loss elf? I'll go out on a limb and call it one of the future stars of the set, it gives Elf decks reach, and turns an overextended board into less of a liability, opening the opportunity for more alpha strikes. I look forward to experimenting with BG Elves in the upcoming Duels: Origins game...hey! don't look at me like that, I'm in a place without Magic :'(
