Nice! Sylvan Messenger is basically Goblin Ringleader, but for elves. Will see play in modern and legacy for sure. Goblin Piledriver reprint is nice too.
I doubt it will see legacy play, since it's a reprint and doesn't currently.

It has seen a little legacy play off and on, but this won't change that. Putting it into Modern is a big deal though.
Goblin Piledriver is a great reprint but it's not worth the $19.99 pre order price tag Star$$$$Games has it at. Being a reprint and non mythic rare there is no way it should be more than 8-10 Dollars.
It's price should plumet not remain near the same as before zzzzzz
Don't count on that.
The game's two most popular Constructed formats now have nonzero demand for Goblin Piledriver. If it proves competitive in either, I wouldn't be surprised to see demand outstrip the old + new supply. It wouldn't be the first card to go up in price after a reprint.
How about reprinting Force of Will, Wizards! They banning all great blue cards in modern like Dig Through Time, Cruise, Ponder, Preordain, JTMS... Im so sick playing against mono red decks. In my local store 8 of 10 people playing mono red in modern. Same thing on MTGO 3 of 4 matches in a modern daily event are mono red decks. Why? Because mono red is cheap and very easy to play. Trust me Wizards will ban Snapcaster and Delver soon as possible from Modern. That is my view of modern atm.
lol why would they ban delver? It's not even tier 1 or oppressive. Snapcaster mage ban would be like banning Tarmogoyf, in that it would just lower blue's power which again isn't oppressive.

Reprinting Goblin Piledriver is not shabby. Also, the wording on Sylvan Messenger ("Put all Elf cards") kinda makes me think of Tribal spells returning to standard soon...
Why does it make you think that. That's the way it would be worded even if there were no elf tribal cards that have ever existed.
Daze would be an interesting inclusion in modern. The only alternative cost counter we have is Disrupting Shoal which is the very definition of niche. They rather don't want modern and standard to have zero mana counters around.
Still, the question remains, is Counterspell that much format defining?

Exactly. I can't believe they actually put it at the same price as it was before. This card is good, but I see it being around $10. This is why preorders are generally a bad deal anyway, almost everything drops a few weeks after release.

The problem with defining this format by what is "fun" is that everyone seems to define fun as what they don't lose to. If you keep losing to easily answered cards, that means you should improve your deck. If you don't want to improve your deck, then you should come to peace with the idea that you are going to lose because you chose to not interact with better strategies.
Still, the question remains, is Counterspell that much format defining?
I can't speak for Modern, but for Standard...
Absolutely!
Printing Counterspell next to Silumgar's Scorn, Thoughtseize, Duress, and Despise is not a good idea. Even if WotC wants to bring Counterspell into Modern, you can forget about it while those are in standard.
Control has had an excellent run this block. Fringe UB with Khans, Tier 1.5 with Ugin and Tasigur, and then to Esper Dragons, a Tier 1 metagame defining deck that was the undisputed king for a time (then people discovered Deathmist Raptor was insane).
Piledriver existing pretty much kills off Esper Dragons for good, but classic UB Control packing 4 Bile Blight is still playable, though admittedly less exciting than it was previously.

So... the worst control deck is playable? Dude, the amount of hate control has had this block is insane. So many creatures which all give so much value against control it's sad.

Exactly, and even if it turns out to be good in standard Goblin Rabblemaster will soon be out the door.

Decks I'm playing in Modern right now:
URB Grixis Reveler (http://www.mtgvault.com/supast4r7/decks/modern-grixis-reveler/)
UB Faeries (http://www.mtgvault.com/supast4r7/decks/ub-fae-2/)
UW Azorious Control (http://www.mtgvault.com/supast4r7/decks/modern-ojutai-control-2/)
because they've finally decided Blue gets to have Counterspell?
Seriously, how else is Blue going to compete?
Reprint Stasis!

I hope finally we will get Daze in Modern pool or something like Foil or Thwart will be fine too. Force of Will would be too bold to dream.
