Highly surprised on Goblin Piledriver. Slightly shocked honestly. Would be great if they could reprint Chain Lightning. It's not Instant, like they've been claiming is too powerful, and it's not on the Reserved list, and has already been reprinted a couple of times in non-basic sets. Why not?!?! We need a 1 drop damage spell that deals 3, even if it is a Sorcery. Yes, goblins, blah blah blah, but what if we don't want to go tribal?
Ok, I was not expecting a piledriver. I honestly think mono red in standard is already too good, so playing against this constantly is going to be annoying. There's always a few cards like that though, like boros reckoner, that are just super annoying. Same thing with the drain elf, and all I can say is "Seriously"? Not really the kind of card I want to be playing against for the next year.
I notice the Lorwyn portion of cards seems to focus on the Elves and Boggarts. I don't recall seeing a single Kithkin or Merrow yet. Perhaps the Boggarts are felt to be a good contrast to the beauty-valuing Elves?

Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.
EDIT: I also hate the fact that MaRo considers Timespiral Block to have been a failure when it was and will always be one of my most favourite blocks.
You do realize that Time Spiral block (Future Sight in particular) is one of his proudest works right? It was a failure from a sales/marketing perspective, for the players it was designed for it was a roaring success. The problem is that player base was and is too niche.
If you're going to bash MaRo please keep it realistic and don't blatantly misinterpret things.
Wow, I never thought I would see either Piledriver or Sylvan Messenger back in Standard. Fantastic bunch of cards spoiled today (except maybe that Djinn, it's not very exciting).
I doesn't do a very good one. Lackey comes down before the non force of will counter spell wall and cheats cards in past force of will etc. Instigator at best just helps you rush your opponent faster. It's more likely that aether vial or cavern of souls will be the lackey. Instigator is just a slow overcoster(for a goblin deck) way to walk straght into a turn 3 board wipe.

Shaman of the Pack is powerful, but in consideration to the fact that we've been dealing with Siege Rhino for a while now, I think it'll be OK. The only context I think it'll be potentially absurd in is Collected Company decks where you've already got a couple elves out there then drop two Shamans.
Goblin Piledriver is going to ensure Gobbos are huge contender in Standard for a while to come.
He's a warrior?! Can I throw him at my opponent's face with Blood-Chin Fanatic???
Can give it Double Strike with Arashin Foremost, too. Unfortunately, there aren't quite enough (relevant) Goblin Warriors in Standard to fully support both tribes: Piledriver, Rabblemaster, and Denizen are an impressive trio, admittedly, but the synergy isn't quite there with the Warrior-tribal cards. Also doesn't help that both of the Warrior-tribal cards are 1CC in colors that aren't Red, where (nearly) all of the Standard Goblins are, which makes a splash difficult. Pity, it seems like it would be a fun deck.

"The true measure of all heroes is not what they achieve, but who they inspire." —Triumph of Gerrard
Doesn't a turn 3 board wipe take care of Goblin Lackey as well? And depending on the format, you could use Goblin Recruiter plus perhaps Goblin Ringleader to line your Goblins up for a rush following said board wipe. Against a control deck, I'd think Mass Hysteria would be a good way to accelerate your Goblins following the Recruit and wipe.

Piledriver just makes the amount of token makers look insane. Hordeling Outburst, Dragon Fodder, hell even Mardu Ascendancy if you're crazy, but Red can go wide and tall much more consistently with Rabblemaster and Piledriver!
I'll probably be taking a RG Goblins approach for awhile with Collected Company and a few other select Green cards. EoT Rabblemaster + Piledriver, uptap, upkeep, draw, swing (for 9). I only fear Languish, might just be fast enough to really hurt all the awesome tribal we are seeing now.
It looks like WotC is saying "you want to play control? Okay, but you forfeit nearly everything your opponent does prior to T4, after that you can be good. I can see how Siege Rhino is going to stay good for awhile.
Maro hate is idiotic, the man is a large part of why MTG has experienced a golden age for the last half a decade.
Yeah, you can disagree with some of Maro's decisions, but to say that he needs to go is just ignoring everything he's done to make Magic as successful as it is right now. That's more than a little silly.
I hope these spoiled elf cards are hints that there are more spoiled goblin cards to come. I doubt Modern will see Goblin Lackey but a subpar version of that would be sweet. Goblin Piledriver has been one of my favorites and loved casting it in legacy; hope there'll be enough goblins to make him monstrous in limited at least.
You sir are a gentleman and a scholar. I can't wait till I can play my bicycle land out, thus making me heckbent, while I have Nessie on the field. You know, so I can attack with my Pervert.
Onslaught was my favorite Stand expansion of the new millennia, and being a Red mage I love that Goblin Piledriver is back. Yes, I am shocked, as WotC seems to hate reprinting any card that was actually good. Of course, is there enough other quality Goblins for the Piledriver to still be good?
As for Maro, I don't hate him but I do think he gets ridiculous. Chaos Warp and Hornet Sting don't hurt anything. Heck, he even has problems with Zephyr Falcon and Scryb Sprites. He needs to become the Stan Lee of Magic, a well-beloved statesmen but not someone who has much daily hands-on influence.

Wizards have done a great job here. Giving some (genuinely powerful) support to the well-loved old tribes is a great way to put the origins in Origins. I'm confident we'll see some merfolk love too.
I can see why people are disappointed about the djinn but for my part it's going straight into a Shu Yun prowess token-horde deck I'm brewing. Strongarm #2 is well appreciated.
As someone who piloted a Tribal Minotaur deck to second place at my LGS, I can appreciate the idea of a Tribal Elf deck. Unfortunately, I didn't have time to do a Tribal Warrior deck for Khans.

"Reveal a Dragon"
Piledriver + Rabblemaster is a pretty insane duo, especially with Foundry Street Denizen and multiple token generators around.
