Slightly better than Cultivate or Kodama's Reach if your goal is to ramp and not search for particular color. And those are EDH staples, so welcome new three mana ramp spell!

I have divined your fate. You shall find your nemesis, a catastrophic clash. Devastation, misery for all, the unleashing of horrible curses and ferocious powers. Ruin, such ruin that I dream each night of blessed peace, assured that the universe is in balance once more...
Great... Now I can meet Nissa's flip condition on turn 6. So now she's only 3 turns slower than Liliana and Gideon and Jace if you draw the right cards.
along with Chandra´s Ignition, this kinda confirms a cycle of spells that helps the "flipwalkers" to transform
weird that this is common while Chandra's is rare, and Chandra's does the job right away.
either way, this is a nice card, and if the translation is on spot, confirms Spell Mastery outside of red, while giving decent ramp.
me likes it.
maybe there are both common cycles and rare cycles, where the rare one does the job right away and uses the word "Ignition", whereas the common uses the word "pilgrimage" and it's just a little (medium with spell mastery) help to achieve ignition
there's no way to partially help Liliana, Gideon or even Chandra.
but, yeah, there could be 2 cycles (or even more) of walker related spells.
I just don´t think that they'd all be labeled Pilgrimage and Ignition.
Pilgrimage makes little to no sense for Chandra, for example, she hasn't made one.
Ignition may very well be related to the spark, but the word itself makes a lot more sense to Chandra than the other ones.
let's wait... lol
I think you're forcing a pattern where none exists. The only thing these cards have in common is that they have a walker's name in the title.

Would this even have seen play in Modern had it said "Forest"? The fixing is so complete in that format with fetches+shocks anyway, and if you want to ramp, there are the Urzalands.
I wish they could have found a way to make it fix your mana without making it a strictly better Cultivate. Perhaps if it cost 1GG or if it put all the lands in your hand so it never ramped you directly. I think that would have been more interesting.
this only searches for basic forests, cultivate searches for basic lands
I realise that. It was, in fact, my entire point.
I may not have been clear, but my point was that I wished this fixed. Simply replacing "basic forest" with "basic land" in this would have made it a strictly better Cultivate, so I figured further changes would have been necessary.
Spell Mastery on this is a joke, what 1 and 2 CC instants and sorceries does Green have that they would want to play before this? Forcing you to search for basic Forests makes this a tough play even in multi-colored decks that would allow easier activation of Spell Mastery, my gosh this spell is bleh and cumbersome for green. You really "fixed" Cultivate for green Wizards.:rollout:

Considering this card could be in preparation for BFZ and we don't know the rest of Origins there's still a lot to think about. Consider something like Ancient Stirrings and we might see something interesting come out of it.

I think the Spell Mastery trigger is supposed to make this spell more viable in the late game of 60-card Magic as three lands thin out your library quite a bit more.
Also, in limited it is a lot more reasonable to play combat tricks and/or another color that can get those in the graveyard. With or without the spell mastery this card is very good. You have to also think that we are going to Zendikar where last time we had about 3 or 4 spells that ramped, so spell mastery could be possible in green.

The power of filtering out lands is good in the early game, in the late game I want to draw and have mana to cast my threats. Therefore fetchlands are good since they filter out early and cost nothing in the late game, this requires resources that I would rather spend casting spells. Most green decks that go late are in trouble anyway and I don't see top decking this as the way out. I could the argument of filtering late game for control decks, but this only grabs basic forests which makes it bad for multicolored decks and green is not a control color.

This card isn't very good, it is not god awful and will see some play in limited. But for any other formats(barring EDH) this won't see play and is considered bad. Putting Spell Mastery on a card that only grabs basic Forests is just bad design, given the color and ability are total polar opposites. Even if Zendikar has ramp, ramping for 3 straight turns very rarely leads to victory. Right after Fate Reforged came out a ramp deck popped up that ramped for 3 straight turns to try and get Hornet Queen or Ugin out. That deck didn't last long as people found that putting in that much ramp left them with bad hands, or they would just get beat by fast decks. Wizards is also upping the cost of ramp spells, so I don't see us getting any cheaper ramp spells than this in the future.

This is a bit awkward though, as it wants you to be heavy green, but that's the color that'll have the hardest time turning on Spell Mastery.
