Ok, question regarding the numbering of the sample cards. Does this suddenly make those cards valuable? As the only way to complete a set of Origins is to get all of the sample decks?
You can get them in Deckbuilder's Toolkits too, I believe.
I don't know the state of standard right now but if burn or mono-red aggro is a thing then this guy will see play. Perfect curve topper for a red deck that just wants to dump its hand on the field and overwhelm the opponent. Especially in a burn orientated build. Play it as one of the last cards in your hand, get a 4/4 flyer for 4, and allows you an extra draw every turn its alive to get that last spell you may need to finish the game.
The M15 sample decks were supposedly available for free on asking in LGSes, for the purposes of introducing the game to new players. Never actually asked if the ones around here had them, so not sure how true it was. Presumably the Origins sample decks will have the same availability.

We can stop spoilers now. For me, nothing in this set is going to compare to that dragon. I love everything about it. I have a BR Dragon/Reanimator Commander deck that is one of my very favorite to play and this card is going straight into it.
If I'm playing Burn or Monored Aggro, I want any 4-drop to immediately impact the board (read: damage or haste). Think Stoke the Flames or Fanatic of Mogis. Even Thunderbreak Regent doesn't cut it in an Aggro deck. The only thing this card does the turn it comes down is make me discard my hand. It'll dig for finishers, sure, but I'd rather it just do 4+ damage itself that turn.
On top of that, if I'm playing it in another deck, like Big Red and/or midrange, I don't usually want to discard my hand. I think a 4/4 flyer for 4 CMC is powerful and will see play (Stormbreath, Sarkhan, Thunderbreak and Avaricious make a fun family), but that drawback greatly limits its effectiveness. I don't like this card as red's defining mythic.
This card also feel's awkward from the burn perspective. With stoke still being good, you can end up wanting to hold burn. Also, not as if red doesn't have enough 4 drop flyers with 4 power. I can't imagine this seeing play till rotation.
Looks like a decent finisher/beater for hyper-aggressive decks. Those sorts of decks will probably have the majority of their hand empty by the time this guy drops anyways, so the downside is very small. Any other type of deck, however, will probably want to steer clear of this card. Would be nice if it had haste or something, however.

grafted skullcap on a 4/4 flier? I played the cap in standard back in the day and while I know this is a much different era of magic I can't imagine this card wont find a home. The card is good for sure.
It looks like a great card when really it reads, discard your hand so your opponent can cast removal on this getting a 5 for 1.
you forgot to add "if you're a player so bad that you'd choose this to play instead of the other 4 cards in your hand."
As I sort of brought up earlier, this is the kind of card you probably don't want to play until you and your opponent are hellbent, perhaps due to Liliana of the Veil in Modern, or some kind of weird actual hellbent mechanic rakdos deck.
My immediate thought was that this could be awesome in a Jund Reanimator list. You can play it straight up from your hand when you want to empty some fatties into your graveyard, and if you're reanimating it with whip of erebos, you can whip it back on your upkeep, so you'll get to draw two from it. Question though, can you manipulate the whip trigger so you exile it before you have to discard your hand?

You can, but unfortunately it won't have the effect you want. Both triggers go on the stack at the same time, and you can indeed put the discard one on the stack first with the exile on top of it. But after you exile the dragon, the discard trigger is still on the stack and will still resolve.
I can see the dragon topping off a standard RDW list. Interestingly he actually has some really nice synergy with Dash creatures since you can stack the discard trigger on top of the return to hand trigger of Dash.
This is the dragon that I was expecting from THE dragon set. You know, the one where everything was supposed to be about how awesome dragons were and then they printed a bunch of boring overcosted dragons?
I love how you are required to think before shoving this into a deck. I love how much cards like this enhance the game. This is why I got into Magic in the first place. If Origins continues down this path, I will be ecstatic.
To those who think this card is bad: reevaluate your game skills. What makes this card so great is that it isn't an immediate shoo in for every red deck in existence. It's interesting and flavorful. 5 out of 5 - this is what I want to see more of.

I also noticed this... Is there a reason these cards haven't been added to the spoiler?

Thanks for compiling this! You seem to have missed Meteorite, however.

Card draw >>> potentially doing 3 damage upon dying.
This guy is like 10x better than Thunderbreak Regent.
Perhaps someone should add those to the spoiler here at MTGSalvation (Charging Griffin etc etc)
