Kind of like AEtherspouts, but mostly worse since you have to take the hit for it to work. Good if you have a high life total and your opponent lacks removal.
Actually, Angel is a lot worse than this card by default because it costs a whopping 7 mana, whereas this guy only costs 5 mana. The difference between 7 and 5 mana is astronomical.
It's something that will probably be explained. A popular theory is that the Order of Heliud that Gideon is a part of will end up being associated with Heliod, and therefore can probably use appropriately themed magic (Sunlance? Not really what they want White to do right now I think but the flavor is there. Interesting that it was also in Elspeth vs. Kiora).

They didn't care that he was the savior of Fort Keff, the great hunter of Ondu, the champion of Kabira. To them, he was just another piece of flesh, a thing with life to be drained away.
Those all are pretty bad compared to what's available in other colours and definitely don't make up for the drawbacks of playing monocolour (especially monowhite).

Angel is a permanent solution that doesn't required getting wanged in the face first. I think I'd rather pay the extra 2 mana to avoid taking a ton of damage, only to have my opponent's creatures return to the battlefield right away because he was packing an Ultimate Price.
He would need terrible stats to not be good in limited, like under 3/3.
Meh for a rare, I should have been more clear. If he's a 4/4, you'd pretty much be happy with a 5-mana 4/4 that has a chance to be a blowout once in a while and would always play it. You have to let the creatures hit you, and then pray they don't have removal. Plus, if you pass with cards in hand and 3WW up, your opponent is probably going to realize something is up and no alpha strike into you. I mean, he's fine, and I's always play him in white, but I would also probably always take o-ring or something similar over it.
You already get above average value for a card in Limited if you manage to exile even one thing with it. He can also be an easy 2-for-1 if you can ambush one attacker and exile another.
His stats will be very important. If he's a 2/3, then he's easy to remove and not great at ambushing attackers. If he's a 4/4 or above, he's very good in Limited.
I have no illusions about him being constructed playable.
His power and toughness will be very telling to his playability but I think he's got potential. Not a ton in constructed but who knows. I'd say he's decent against monored but by turn 5 you really shouldn't be too keen to let much else hit you. He is a mass o-ring on a beater though. But you'll need to flash him in just before damage if I'm not mistaken. I suppose you could block something small and let the rest be exiled. I don't know, it's the first origins spoiler and I'm being generous. Ive been Jonezing for a fix.

Eh, it's an intro pack rare, very rarely are they even fringe playable. Kinda sucks that our second spoiler for the set is terrible, but nothing worth getting bent out of shape over.
No they aren't. They aren't strong because they are white and white is the worst mono-color in EDH. It's great for support cards, but on it own it just doesn't interact with the stack enough to hold up. If any of the commanders listed above where dual color W/X they would be amazing. As it is... BOOOOOooooo!!!!
Assuming he has a big enough body, this seems quite good. You can flash in and block something to kill it, then exile their other attackers
That doesn't work because this only exiles creatures which have dealt combat damage.
If you flash it in to block something, its ability will trigger before it can exile anything.

I wonder if we will get a card for each planswalker's tutor or other influential forces from their pasts. Lilliana did have a brother (Not sure if blood related or sign of familiarity) who she was tricked into turning him into a zombie, Or we could see one of the demons she formed a pact with.
Kinda curious to see where this all goes. Kinda hoping we get to see the other face cards for the intro decks soon.

This is wrong. The ability triggers on taking combat damage, not on him entering the battlefield. Flashing him in to block will cause all unblocked creatures that deal damage to you to be exiled (provided he isn't killed during the combat damage step).

I wouldn't say interacting with the stack is white's problem - black and green don't do that much either, and they do fine. If anything, white has the third-most interaction since it has a few bad counterspells, protection instants, and loads of instant-speed removal. It's the lack of draw and tutor capabilities that matter more, and a general lack of explosive bombs and combos. You'll notice that the same could be said for red, although red has a few powerful bombs at the expensive of having even less draw and tutor.
Anyway, this guy is pretty awful for a commander since the only thing he has going for him (his element of surprise) is removed if he's sitting in the command zone, plus he's just bad. But we can cross our fingers for a full cycle, and that the other colors will fare better (they usually do, white's probably gotten the worst card out of both legendary core-set cycles, with the arguable exception of nefarox in 2013).
He's not even a good jailer - he only jails people for a little while before he stops doing it, and apparently doesn't keep the keys very secured since everyone escapes the minute he leaves his guard down.

You're right, I was mistaken about the timing of the trigger- I should have re-read the card before answering.

I LIKE DRAGONS!
What about Linvala, Keeper of Silence? She's definitely powerful.
My own mono-white is Akroma, Angel of Wrath because it's fun. She's strong, too.
Which brings up the question: who was the planeswalker that mentored Hixus?
Is it time for Heliod conspiracies again? I got a bag of confetti saved up already!

My gut says 2/3 or 3/3. But then again, Pillarfield Ox stats are pretty good for a jailer.
