Yet another rare I wouldn't want to pull from a pack...
But the supply on this one was starting to dry up. I think Tiny leaders made it spike up from about .40 to around $3 and someone made a run on the foil copies.

Not every pack can have a $20+ rare in it, you know. At least the cheaper rares have, for the most part, been useable in the limited draft and beyond. Not like Dragonstorm from MM13.

If I'm paying $10+ for a booster pack of cardboard that cost pennies to make, then half the rares I have a chance of pulling shouldn't be junk/casual stuff that's worth less than a buck. You can get away with that in normal sets where packs only cost $3-$4. It's much harder to justify that crap when you're having to pay over twice that much for a single pack just to play the mythic lottery. I'd be fine with this junk being in the set if the packs were normal retail price. Then it would at least be affordable to draft and you could have fun buying random packs and not feel completely burned when you inevitably pull Ghost Council of Orzhovs. I love reprints of old, fun casual/EDH playables, but not in a set like MM.
Well, it is an artifact for Dispatch, and there's Bolt... what are the expected colors for the metalcraft archetype? White and...?
Given Tezzeret, I think White / Blue is a possibility.
They said in one of the articles that artifacts will be the UW archetype.
That was true in the first MM as well, but I found RW artifacts worked all the same. Oddly my most successful deck with that archetype was the result of a failed attempt to force Storm.

Well I guess you can always just take only U or only W artifact related cards and fill the deck with overall decent cards from any other color But I guess the 'perfect' atrifact deck will come together when you can combine both U and W...
Good stuff. Not the most valuable card out there, but I've been meaning to pick some of these up anyway. Though it's got to be able to fetch more than Dispatch and Lightning Bolt...
I am concerned about the large amount of rares that see no Modern play at all in this set. Sure, Limited needs support, but it doesn't seem like most of these packs will anywhere near worth $10.

I feel like someone always chimes in with sentiment whenever we boo a card that has no business being in such an expensive set. It's fine for a handful of cards, but we're looking at 10+ rares that have basically no value.

I haven't done the math - but I thik the EV is still higher than the price for packs as of now (a few other users have stated that on this forum - and I have the feeling that they are right, though I might be wrong). Though to be honest a few very expensive cards can keep EV high all by themself Don't forget EV is expected value, not guaranteed...
I mainly play limited formats, and will draft this set as the draft does look fun so far.
I have a genuine curious question - related to the continuous battle in many rumour threads about not wanting to open packs that you don't get your $$ value back out of.
What would happen if every pack was always had $$ cards in them worth more than the packs sell for?
msun: Knives scoop ice cream.
Highroller: No they don't, knives don't scoop. Spoons scoop.
msun: Well, knives SHOULD scoop icecream.
Highroller: We have spoons that do it. Moreover, the shape of a knife that would scoop ice cream would make it horrible for performing the functions of a knife.
msun: Highroller, you bring up spoons as though they were the utensil used for scooping ice cream.

MM2 booster boxes would be like ever car in the movie Gone in Sixty Seconds, that's what.
It may not be expensive, but oh gods do I hope I open one of these in a draft!

Storm Crow is strictly worse than Seacoast Drake.
