Today's Arcana article showed Seal of Fire. Got me thinking: wouldn't it be cool if a Chandra planeswalker didn't ping directly, but instead made Seal of Fire-like enchantment tokens? Might provide a much more interesting and powerful Chandra while still sticking to her theme.
That would be incredibly powerful for a lot of different reasons. The biggest issue I see with something like that is that it creates problems that its incredibly strong as a defense for a walker as it would bypass haste and allow you to stockpile removal to be applied as you see fit. For that to work it would likely need a lot of other stipulations to allow something like that.
Offhand, I suspect that they would be sorcery speed use only, I also could see them having something like fading or something of that sort so you could only sit on them shortly before they dissipate. Its an interesting idea but as it is, you would have to introduce a lot of measures to balance it. That or it would have to be a significant negative loyalty ability that would remove most of a walker's starting loyalty to create.

I have officially moved to MTGNexus. I just wanted to let people know as my response time to salvation decks being bumped is very hit or miss.

Oh, I know it'd be too powerful as-is. I did say "Seal of Fire-like" after all.
it's not unclear at all...
it's part of resolution of that ability. Crystal clear.
if it wasn't, the card would have another Paragraph saying "Whenever ~ deals damage, if the total damage dealt this turn was 3 or more, [...]" or something like this.
Oh man, I never realized this before. Chandra's much worse to me now.
Again, given that the card is clearly a low-quality scan of a mock-up, it's possible that someone had the name, art, and general idea of the card, but numbers could still be different if it was tweaked in dev.
Not likely, sadly, but possible.
And it has chosen the virtually worst art for the legendary side. There are at least 3 better arts in this very article that could go there. I am still convinced it is a fake.

Let this great clan rest in peace (2001-2011)
i call her fake, since i doubt they would design a card like this
first you need to deal dmg to let her flip, but the ping ability only goes for players and when you transformed her and aim for the ultimate, you also need to aim for the player, just to get an ultimate, that also does damage only to the player. and after you did that much dmg to a player, whats the point of the emblem ? i doubt they would design her like this.
i mean in a normal game, you will probably not be able to attack with her and make her survive, since she is 2/2 for 3 mana. so in order to make her flip, lets say you use burn spells, since this is the theme of this card.
lets just asume this turn 4: ping - lightning bolt - ping - lightning bolt - ping - flip- +1 2 dmg. so you did 11 dmg already. the next 2 turns you do +1 and do another 4 damage. so you have done 15 damage already. if you now do the ultimate, the player is dead and no emblem is needed.
thats why this card will not be designed this way. i mean even if she has to do -2 ability or gets damage, in order to get the emblem you still need to do more damage to players, which makes the ultimate more and more useless.
this card is sooooo bad designed, it can only be fake.
On the other hand we are talking about Chandra here. She has a pretty bad track record when it comes to her cards.
Oh yay... yet *another* card that could have improved MM2 just a little, but didn't
Also... fake? Really?!
So someone just *found* these two arts before they were posted,
as well as the name "Chandra, Fire of Kaladesh"?
How on Earth is that even possible?
I get that the card is terrible, but that doesn't mean it's fake.

The same thing happened with Ugin from FTR. Same art, same name, complete BS abilities. The art had yet to be released, so it seemed real enough. How that happened is anybody's guess, but there is precedent for "unknown" information being found on false spoilers.

and even if the emblem gets useful, for example when you play vs some1 who got alot of life, this clock is so hardcore. 3 dmg every turn which you cant handle in 99% of the cases ? thats like an autowin
this card is sooooo bad designed, it can only be fake.
So, if Chandra deals a lot of damage that's bad design?
Life gain is a thing, damage prevention is a thing...
There is stuff outside of competitive magic, multiplayer for example where her ultimate would shine.
Chandra can end up transforming dealing combat damage to a creature and then pinging opponent.
you can use non burn spells to untap chandra, ya know? Last time I checked, there were red spells that aren't Lightning Bolts
you can even cast her in turn 3, then, in turn 4, tap her, cast ral zarek which untaps her because he's a red spell, then tap her, then +1 ral zarek to untap her again and transform her doing only 3 damage and then +2 her dealing 2 more.
In a burn deck, she`s essentially a delayed 5 damage for 1RR that can be interrupted by creature removal.
that transforms into a one sided Sulfuric Vortex that doesn't prevent life gain.
Well, also, I'd like to suggest something...
go to gatherer, type "planeswalker" in the type line for advanced search, it will return 59 cards.
from there, please, count how many of those have an ultimate that says "I win 99% of the time"
I'm quite sure that's true for at least a dozen planeswalkers, and I'm not even stretching it.
she is most likely real....
get over it.
They designed Hedonist's Trove which is laughably bad designed in the latest set.
I don't think this Chandra is really a bad design, but Hedonist's Trove is proff that being a horrible design doesn't make a card fake.
The same thing happened with Ugin from FTR. Same art, same name, complete BS abilities. The art had yet to be released, so it seemed real enough. How that happened is anybody's guess, but there is precedent for "unknown" information being found on false spoilers.
Fairly sure that the art was already spoiled for the fake Ugin. Looking back at that thread, there is reference to the full art already posted that same day (though the link just goes to a regular spoiler now)
I feel like the article today makes things complex but not clear. The art used seems like, to me, one of the LEAST likely for the legend side. And I feel like the PW side is waaay too zoomed in; you've got this amazing panorama behind her and you choose to use none of it?
Compare to Lilliana for whom they have clearly put in a LOT of effort to make the art look pretty and clearly tell a story. The first or third art of chandra from the article, or the one where she is with her father and the city is on fire, would be MUCH more iconic for her. The random garbage used in this card would seem an awful choice; it has no focus on the character.
Also I may be reaching because I HOPE this is fake

I'm confused which art looks better for her legends side than the one they used. What else are they going to use? The one that focuses on the tigerbeast? The ones with her not in the foreground? The one that's clearly meant to tell a story for a noncreature spell (which would be the father in her arms one. There's no way that would work as a creature, it's too busy)? The only one that sort of works is Magali's image of her running down the street. But that one has too much going on for it to fit well, unless they zoomed it in until it looked like a picture of Emma Watson. Of all the arts used in the novel, the one used was definitely the best one for the legends side.
you have to cast like 10 billion spells to make it flip
Not really, you just have to cast two (ping, cast first spell, ping, cast second spell, ping). Or you can just cast Tail Slash.
Anyway, the most common way will be attack, shock, ping.
So, assuming she's real, now that I have a better idea of how she works, wanna know something dirty? Use her to block, Convoke a Crowd's Favor, ping between damage steps. Fun times.
I know a couplecards that will work nicely with her.

MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.
While this card is both terrible and badly designed, it is probably real. I don't see why she is a shaman though.
The card is not terrible, whether it is great or mediocre (playable for part of its rotation period, if not all) is debatable, but it certainly isn't terrible (terrible means probably not even worth testing).
I believe she is a shaman because her power is a very primal one, "mage" usually means more of an educated, controlled magic user who casts specific spells and knows what the effects will be. Chandra (at this point in her life) just kinda acts on instinct without much control. She hasn't been taught anything and doesn't cast any sort of spell, she just releases power in the general direction of the target. Shaman may not be the absolute best, but I'm not sure what would be better.

The name "Ugin, the spirit dragon" goes back as far as Ghostfire, unlike here where we hadn't even heard of Kaladesh before the spoiler.
