The art is atrocious. I'll still buy it if it's more than 25% cheaper than the Future Sight printing. I have one copy, I need 3 more. I'm starting to feel worried about the value of a large portion of my collection, though. I'm not a speculator, I have no more than a playset of any individual cards, but I've got a lot of $20-$60 cards that I'm worried might tank in value after MM2, which would be disappointing because I bought most of this stuff within the past 7 or 8 months and I spent a small fortune on cards that now are going to get reprinted in MM2 at a much higher print run (I think?) than MM1. I wouldn't be too happy if the value drops to half of what it was when I bought it. If it drops to 2/3rds, I'd be happy. But I feel like my $180 playset of Noble Hierarchs is going to be worth $60 soon, for instance, and that's just one card that I think is likely to tank.
Ultimately, I know this is good for the game, but it REALLY hurts, personally, if values tank as much as some are speculating (I don't know if they will or not). It makes me feel worried to heavily invest in decks in the future because I don't want to spend a bunch of money and then lose it all within a year when the cards tank from reprints. And I'm not a speculator, or a hoarder, I just buy cards to play with, but it feels bad to spend my hard earned money to play with some cards and then they tank.
This of course HASN'T HAPPENED YET, so I might be worried about nothing... sort of pontificating as I sit here and worry that I made a mistake by buying all these cards and not selling them before this set comes out. A lot of lost money potential.

When wizards made this format they made it very clear that they intended to reprint cards that see heavy demand and play. Investing in modern from a monetary standpoint doesnt make sense. The investment to play modern is to have fun, own the cards, and be able to play the deck. What happens to the price of cards after you buy them only matters if you move to sell or trade them off later.
Don't buy modern as an investment. If you want to invest money go and invest it the normal ways rather than in cardboard crack.

I have officially moved to MTGNexus. I just wanted to let people know as my response time to salvation decks being bumped is very hit or miss.
Agree with ISBP. What you can perhaps do is try to sell them now, then maybe buy them at a later date.
I feel for many people who enter Modern the "hard" way. Paying over the top for cards to play your favorite format. And to see cards tank to their true price when reprinted must have hurt.

If this set follows a similar path as the first modern masters did, commons and uncommons will drop in value (assuming they had any) and rares will more or less hold - about a 10% variance in price. Mythics for the most part INCREASED in value, because demand dwarfed supply by such a large margin - tarmogoyf almost doubled in price with the first reprint because its new demand skyrocketed and new supply was almost non-existent (especially in comparison to demand).
Based on the expectations of a limited print run, I foresee the same things happening. Rares will hold value, mythics will jump in value.

When you say "invest in a deck", do you mean buy a deck to play or buy the cards to resell?
Except for in situations where the upcoming price change was obvious, there's no real reason to feel bad about spending $X for something now just because later it became $Y.
I got my Playset of Daybreak Coronet a few months ago and I really enjoy looking at the artwork everytime the card is in my hand or when my Bogle-with-a-halo is smashing my opponents face. But the new artwork is...meh. Don't like it

Yikes. The only thing worse than a sexless marriage is a stale metagame at home. When that happens, it's time to sideboard a mistress or two.

I mean buy it to play, I have only sold a single playset of cards in my life A set of Wastelands that I got extra because I put in a Best Offer price on ebay for a playset that I didn't really expect to be accepted, forgot about it two days or so later (hadn't received a declined or accept notice yet), and then put in another offer on another playset, which I also pretty much didn't expect to be accepted haha. To my surprise, in short order they were both accepted, so I sold one of them.
I only buy cards to play with.
It does feel bad to me, personally, if I spend 2000 dollars on cards and then six months later they're worth 1000. That's not the end of the world... but it just feels like "Aw crap, I wish I was proactive and smart enough to sell and rebuy these rather than pretty much losing 1000 dollars."

Yeah that's like...the ONLY reason why I like that guy being in. I have probably 6 copies of him and he's utterly worthless. Definitely doesn't need to be a rare in a set with $10 packs.
Daybreak Coronet reprint, though! I've always wanted to build Boggles but I traded off my Coronets (including my foil ) when they were virtually worthless. It's been the only card keeping me from building the deck (except maybe Horizon Canopy. Please be in the set too!)
I wonder where Hierarch will settle. I sold off my last two when the card hit $70, but I definitely want a set again.
If I pull just a handful of these staples from my box, I'll be happy. I'm grateful for the Hierarch reprint. Infect/Kibler Zoo look fun, but aren't so good without Mother Theresa.
Wow, didn't know so many people were complaining about the art - I actually like it over the old one. It's far more flavorful too, so that's a plus in my book.
That's good. Maybe we won't have any rares like Skeletal Vampire this time around.
Edit: I guess with Endrek Sahr it is too late for that.
Storm Crow is strictly worse than Seacoast Drake.
