With that logic, you can say why would anyone pay $500k for a car when you can buy one for $10k.
I say that all the time. Whenever I see an expensive car, I see fun that was not had. I mean that could have been spent on ice cream and beer for all the children :-(
Yep. As unwanted as the lands in boosters may seem, they are actually great for ensuring that there are always enough lands everywhere for everyone. When you only got lands in starter decks, and these were mainly opened by beginners, lands were less available.
I am not saying its a good deal, but you obviously have never bought plexi glass (acrylic) before. Its 1/4 and for that amount it would probably run your $25+ depending if you get a contractors discount. You think you can just go into a hardware store and they will put it together for you? 95% chance they wont, but they may cut it for you. If you cut it yourself, good luck if you have never done it before, you will most likely do it wrong and have to buy another piece.
If you know how you are doing you can make a nice looking organizer out of plexi. If you don't then its going to look like garbage...
don't you see what this means? full art lands in Battle for Zendikar CONFIRMED!

That is an actually insane MSRP for about 25 cents of plastic.
You probably go to restaurants and complain that the food is overpriced because you can make the same thing at home for $1.
You probably buy any industry made mass wares for 10x the price, because they put a logo on it.
See, it works both ways. And your example is worse, since restaurants have alot of costs and are quite often good value for money. But if a restaurant want to charge me 200$ for a regular meal, then you are right: I am outa here.
The baseline is: This product is not good value for money, because more than 70% of the price seems to be the logo they put on. That's too much for my taste and for many others as well.
But you: Go ahead and buy it.
So you're tight with your money, there's nothing wrong with that. But don't knock someone's product because you don't want to spend your money on it.
Also, if you price out the individual parts, you're talking about $2 bucks per box and engraving at about $10-$11 per box. You're already at the MSRP. That's not even including the black base, which is really hard to put a price on since it seems like a custom made part.

Plus labor costs, and also the machines to manufacture these... apparently some people on this forum think the people that work at Ultra pull lasers out of their butts to do all this.
I have worked in the packaging and processing machinery industry in the past and its not cheap. You know how much labor for the techs and the machines cost themselves to do this on a medium to high scale basis.... its not just the cost of plexi glass like people think.
Those costs are allocated over the whole run. Given how many of these are made with one laser cutter, I'm sure "laser cost per unit" comes out to a penny. Labor and shipping are the most variable costs, and again, it's going to be cheap plastic, wrapped in cardboard and plastic, shipped in bulk...someone should be fired if the cost of one unit of this product is more than a quarter.
It looks nice for what it is. I won't get one. I just wanted to say that everything costs nothing.
Absolutely spot on. A machine that prints or cuts enough things will eventually pay for itself and more if the sales threshold has been met. I think if you're an LGS or intend to open one, I think it's a good investment.
But if you're not, it's definitely not worth it. How many lands you wanna keep? I throw away all my basic lands, save for Japanese ones and full-arts (duh).
Considering the first land caddy's were actually available for $25, this seems like yet another outrageously priced item from Ultra Pro.
The first land caddy's had no MSRP and were never made available for sale by distributors; they were given through distributors with a couple prereleases (like MTG backpacks and hoodies), but that's it. Believe me, we had a lot of customers that wanted these and I would've loved to have them to sell, but they were not a retail product. If you could've gotten one for $25 you're an idiot for not doing so because I never once saw one sell for under $50.

This actually looks like a cheaply made cash grab designed to part fools from their money. My biggest concern is durability. Those things like they'll be scratched pretty badly if I even look at it funny.
For my cube, I have fifty of each basic in a fat pack box, separated by the dividers that come from the Holiday box. They also have stickers from said box to indicate which lands are where. Honestly, it works pretty well, and this doesn't seem like an upgrade.

I'm really getting sick of these prices! Anything with MTG !
First the cube box! Now a stupid 10$ piece of plastic for $60!
Don't forget the aforementioned modern masters ... Where wizards wants you to get into their card at reasonable cost. 6.99 pack last year thanks! How can you help people get into modern this year? OH PRICE JACK TO 10$ for modern masters 2!
I swear if hasbro didn't have Transformers! I'd be mighty upset at that company.
It just seems strange to me that they're not, since they're meant to be used to organize lands by "color" (Yes, lands are colorless).
I say that all the time. Whenever I see an expensive car, I see fun that was not had. I mean that could have been spent on ice cream and beer for all the children :-(
When I was young, if you didn't bring your own lands, you couldn't play. There were no lands at the events.
