Just noticed this for sale at Coolstuff, hadn't seen it discussed yet. A new design for the land caddy, made of clear acrylic within a black tray. MSRP of $60, preselling for $45. I suppose that's not bad, considering the original caddy's are going for $85-$95 now (picture included in case there's anyone not familiar with the original). I've got one of the originals, and they're great for drafts. When I'm not using it for a draft, I find it convenient to hold my loose cards until I have a chance to file them in binders.
One improvement over the original is that in the item description (and it looks like it in the picture too) is that this will hold sleeved cards, whereas the original did not, unless you turned the stack of cards 90 degrees, because the boxes were deeper than they were wide.
You can't get acrylic boxes with mana symbols and a nifty MTG emblazoned base for 10 bucks. These are great for shops that hold regular drafts and collectors that want storage for their cards. C'mon, these don't come around that often and they are special. I'd say grab one while you can.
Why would LGSes need these when they have the land caddies that are one or more colors?
Our LGS has a cardboard box full of basics in no particular order, and nobody's complaining about that, it doesn't take that long to find the basics you need even if they're in a huge pile. This feels more like a high end product for home drafting. It certainly looks sexy.

My high end store has boxes with rows and at the front of each row on the outside of the box is a hand drawn symbol of the basic land that should go in that row. No expenses spared where I go as you can tell.

RIP Batman guy. I hope somebody picks up the slack now that you are gone. Sick children need their Batman.
Ah, that explains it!
I was just wondering why somebody would pay 60+$ for some acrylic boxes that you can get for 10 bucks...
With that logic, you can say why would anyone pay $500k for a car when you can buy one for $10k. If you have the money and would like to spend it on a well put together case, go for it. If you make it yourself, you will most likely have a ghetto looking acrylic box with hot glue pouring out of the edges. Not to mention, probably not even near close to perfect squares.
Yeah about that you know how many magic players bring their own land for limited events? The only time I did that was when I had a cube but they were all foil so it didn't work that well. I know of at most 5 people in the entire twin cities magic community who bring their own lands to play with in random limited events out of the entire playerbase here.

"Yawgmoth," Freyalise whispered as she set the bomb, "now you will pay for your treachery."
Looks sweet for cube owners. And re: bringing lands for drafts, I bring my own. This saves time in deck-building and prevents having to de-sleeve at the end of the night.
It seems a little counterintuitive to have these all be transparent.
Well, having the lands in the boxes themselves would let you see what color they are, assuming the symbols are hard for you to read (not being sarcastic, I know some people have less than stellar eyesight).
That said, I really want to serve color-themed dips and chips at my birthday/commander night in these this year. SAVOR THE FLAVOR.

Maybe it's a way to subtly reinforce to new players than lands are colorless.
That said, it's too bulky and doesn't carry enough cards for an adequate storage option. Though it would be a nice display. Too expensive for my tastes as well.

I do it every time now.
Not only does it prevent having to cram in with everyone else to get lands,
I also have all foil lands with art of my choosing.
I have an absurd collection of foil basics- I might as well use them!
On that note, I kind of like this product as a place to keep my fancy basics,
but I think I'll keep them in their current box.

I could manufacture these for about 15 bucks in bulk, could probably get 10 made for around $25-$30 ea. Paying $60+ per is ridic.
That is an actually insane MSRP for about 25 cents of plastic.
Acrylic and laster cutters (I assume that's how they cut it and make the engravings but I could be wrong of course) aren't that cheap - A square meter of high-quality transparent acrylic plate is about 30-50 bucks, depending on where you buy it. Of course, that doesn't justify the crazy price for these boxes, but it's just not true that "plastic" costs almost literally nothing, like many people automatically assume.

This is what I do, though I don't think its is has any relation to my masculinity. I do it because it saves ample time in the deckbuilding process.
