I was surprised to see my LGS with a display of Event Decks for sale, especially when they usually release them about a month after the official set releases. Oh well, here you go...
If Event decks here were sold at $15 I would have gotten a few boxes already since Thunderbreak is selling at $8 here. One of the local game stores here cracked open all of their Event Deck allocations. Thunderbreak was sold out in 2-3 days.
Despite the $8 Thunderbreak I couldn't get myself to buy one though because the national distributor sells them at $28 (absurd since SCG sells them for only $20).
Both event decks for this block are pretty clearly intended to play with a specific planeswalker from the set. This one is only really in blue so people who buy it will want Sarkhan Unbroken - there's only 4 other blue cards in the main deck. Similarly, the KTK one was B/W warriors to go with Sorin, Solemn Visitor.
I don't think it's an overly good event deck, but it's not absolutely awful with Thunderbreak Regent and Surrak.
It has some solid commons with elvish mystic, wild slash, heir of the wilds, roast, fanatic of xenagos and 2 really good rares as well as few alright ones like Savage Knuckleblade, Boon Satyr, Polis Crusher, and Crater's Claws. Then it has some weird includes like the 2 mana deer, the warhound, and outpost siege. The lack of Wooded Foothills is so perplexing to me, but this way avoided markups and sellouts. The only thing I don't like is the inclusion of blue, which is unnecessary and possibly misleading for a new player.
Verdict: A lot of value for a new player even at $20 / 25 and a solid shell, as well as giving them 2 very playable rares. Not a whole lot of incentive here for those of us that have access to most of these cards already, but I have a feeling this is what Wizards wants considering the lack of wooded foothills.
