Breaking news.
There will be no Tibalt, Tamiyo, Tezzeret, Garruk, Chandra, Liliana, mini-Jace, big-Jace, Garruk again, or Sarkhan in Theros either.
There will also be no Black Lotus.
The lack of Rakshasas really disappointed me. That was such an awesome creature type that was close to my heart and they didn't really do anything awesome with it. Sigh. I guess we can work with Rakshasa Gravecaller.
Gravecaller's great in Limited. I was disappointed they didn't do more with them, particularly with their story role, but above all I dislike the silly creature type "Cat Demon". They're demons that resemble cats, not actually cats. They could quite comfortably have introduced a rakshasa creature type, as they did for naga.
And on top of all that they reprinted Island...again! Jeez! It's like they reprint that card almost every set!
I noticed the same - I think it's preparation for the loss of core sets. Without core sets to use as homes for utility reprints en masse, I expect there will be a large number of reprints in every set from now on.

Yeah, it felt like they went too many directions with the set as far as creature types are concerned. Everything seems to get shafted in the end except for warriors. Even the dragons were more lackluster than they should have been.

It is 2 factors:
1. They only get the same X amount of time to design Y number of cards split over 3 sets, so the more cards means less time they can design cards for each set.
2. Limited balance, a lot of the reprints are to balance limited which needs basic removal/creature/effect spells for drafters.
Ok, while I still think the set is alright, I am annoyed that they weakened Rebound so much. Emerge Unscathed is not a broken card. Why couldn't they have reprinted it instead of making Center Soul?
I have to say, this set has a ton of unique and awesome commons and uncommons. I see a lot of "build around me" cards. Even a few fun support rares like Obscuring Aether.

Dromoka Warrior as Blade of the Sixth Pride
Palace Familiar as Surveilling Sprite
Shambling Goblin as Festering Goblin but adding an "opponent controls" clause
Kolaghan Aspirant as Ashmouth Hound
Twin Bolt as Fire from Fire//Ice

I was rather hoping for at least some support for Orc tribal, and possibly also Hound tribal.
It only hits creature spells, but it still seems good.

He works well with exploit or on his own.
I think we really need another enabler to make exploit worth playing, though, as is there are too few "When dies, X" effects right now.
Cool cards in here, some nice removal for black and new 2cc warriors for that deck, man it has a lot of good warrior options now.

I take this back. It's fun to see how they rebuilt all of the clan abilities.

Also, apparently Taigam did not scheme enough to actually get himself a card.
"But you wanted Force of Will back on that art, so we did the next best thing, we put its hard-cast cost onto Dismiss instead!"

So many psedo-stuff...
Also, Summit Prowler looks very different.
I secretly ship Ral x Jace... and Nissa x Chandra... :">Seriously, would Dismiss really have been too good?

Manifested creatures are not tokens.
Storm Crow is strictly worse than Seacoast Drake.
I'm sad that Wizards thinks Compulsive Research and Dismiss are too powerful.

The beauty is in the uncommons. It's a wonderful precursor to the upcoming Zendikar block which we'll expect to to full of Ulamogs etc.
1- Illusory Gains, WTF?! Is Mind Control seriously too good to print now?
2- Living Lore is my favorite creature since Progenitor Mimic.
3- Negate- cool new art, but utter flavor fail.
4- Lots of new Countermagic makes me very happy.
5- Sight Beyond Sight needs more Sword of Omens.
Reprint Stasis!
Control needs more love.
