Mana rocks are for limited, Duress is nice and annoying. Duress, Thoughtseize, Waste Not, Despise, Brain Maggot etc... Gonna be a fun standard for a few months, "oh you're trying to play a game here? Idontthinkthatsgonnabepossibleblah..."
"If fetch lands are reprinted I really believe they will be in allied colors (aka Onslaught fetches). If the fetch lands are reprinted you better believe that we'll all be fetching up basics. This would lead me to believe that the set after THS may have a reprint as the temples can't be fetched but it's pure speculation." - posted 03/22/2014 proved correct during Khans spoiler season.
"The set releases for fall 2015 (Blood, Sweat and Tears) and fall 2016 (Lock, Stock and Barrel). One or both of those 2 blocks (I'm betting) are going to contain either Fetch reprints or (more likely) Filter reprints. Filter lands still need a reprint. They are getting pretty high up there and it's been longer than ZEN so it makes a little more sense that Filter lands would see print earlier that fetches." - posted 03/22/2014 proved incorrect about filters coming earlier than fetches, still pending on filters in Origins block.
Custodian of the Trove does at least tell us that big-butts BG is still alive in limited. With so many of the low-cost-low-power-high-toughness things in KTK leaving limited (Archers' Parapet, Disowned Ancestor, Rotting Mastodon) with notably less replacement in FRF or DTK-spoiled-so-far, I was starting to worry there would be a shortage of things to use with Abzan Beastmaster, Grim Contest, and the like.
It's not a good card, mind. But it is a card that fits an archetype that had been looking pretty underrepresented in DTK draft so far.
We also finally have some artifacts with which we can do better number deductions in the numbercrunch thread.
The discard package would go nicely with Saito's Humans deck. Just saying if you bring something to pre-release, it's always nice to be packing something that can just goldfish your opponent out of whatever they were planning on doing, while laying down the beats.

I keep thinking the same thing and am constantly told "We still have over half the set still." I'm still holding out hope for something EDH playable
In general I agree. We did get Sidisi, Undead Vizier though which seems like a really solid pickup. This set has been full of standard / limited stuff though in general.

I have officially moved to MTGNexus. I just wanted to let people know as my response time to salvation decks being bumped is very hit or miss.
Yeah, Duress is a great card to have available, but the problem with Waste Not decks is that it still runs into all those discard spells becoming dead draws once the opponent's hand is empty and he's just playing his top-deck every turn. Discard-theme decks really need a Rack effect to work.

Meh. She's competing with a lot of tutors that already don't make the cut in a lot of decks. I could, however, see her being called "EDH playable" to most people though.
Sarkhan disgusts me, the flavor text on the new Duress only makes me despise him more. He knows very well this is a different timeline and the Zurgo he knew never existed, and he still wanted to take revenge? Serious, how much more pathetic can he be?
I applaud the writers for doing a good job creating such a selfish, unforgiving person, but I really don't want to see him again.
I just hate despise since I wanted to play UW control this season, and the aggro decks which have already been given loads of tools against such a deck got more. Though the flavour text stuff is interesting.
This is true, although Waste Not decks can now splash red for easy instant discard on Kolghan's command, which is pretty nice. And they have a solid creature base by being able to run a 4-of of Risen Executioner. (which coincidentally fits really well with Dark Deal/Rakshasa's Secret and the zombie tokens you'll be shoving out with Waste Not).
We don't have Surrak, we don't have either Taigam or whatever as the legendary creature for Ojutai... there has to be a rare land cycle, as there's a rare land cycle in every large set with the exception of Shards of Alara, and with the new rotation, if they don't print some form of rare land set, the mana is going to be horrible come Battle For Zendikar, with no pain or scry lands, and just two sets of fetches. So this has been an awkward spoiler season in my opinion.
They're either saving some great stuff for the next two days, or just planning to disappoint everyone, and hope to create some awesome things for Origins.
This set isn't horrible, it's just underwhelming compared to the things created previously. Whatever genius decided Megamorph was an idea, should probably be let go. The dragons are underwhelming, and could've been made a little more powerful, or given tools to make them more powerful. But, like always, everyone figures out the format eventually!
We do have common fixing lands with rotation. The refuges are in both Khans and Fate and we have the uncommon trilands. But we really need a new set of rares.

Zurgo was an irrational jerk and tried to kill him (twice), not to mention he killed Sarkhan's waifu. If I were Sarkhan, I'd have wanted revenge too.

WUBRGPauper Battle BoxWUBRG ... and why I am not a fan of Wayne Reynolds' Illustrations.

That nail should have been hammered when Battle for Zendikar was announced.
