Just? You need to run a bunch of dragons to make this thing more than a Force Spike. Unfortunately, the most playable dragons are red and double colored.
The problem with defining this format by what is "fun" is that everyone seems to define fun as what they don't lose to. If you keep losing to easily answered cards, that means you should improve your deck. If you don't want to improve your deck, then you should come to peace with the idea that you are going to lose because you chose to not interact with better strategies.
Severely overrated card. Far too conditional to be reliable, might see fringe play in Standard, but it's just another not-good-enough counter in Modern.
Bet you and a bunch of people feel pretty stupid with Esper Dragons being the top control deck in standard now, all lists running 4 of this card.
Yeah, you can totally do that. It's just another counterspell. What everyone's getting so excited about with this card is the fact that it only costs UU if you happen to control a dragon or have a dragon to show from your hand. Besides the cost, it's a normal counterspell like any other that can be countered.
I hope this is a sign Wizards is considering a full-out Counterspell reprint.
Pretty sure the impact of the card is a sign of that not happening for a very long time if ever.
I don't follow Standard at all, but if this is the case, it pisses me off for Modern's sake. MaRo has been hinting for years that a Counterspell reprint is a possibility. Its effect on Standard is entirely dependent on the metagame around it, but it would be a nice contribution to Modern regardless.
Scorn single handily made UB/x decks tier 1 in standard. The Dragons followed Suite, but T2 counter thing, or force spike it is very strong for Standard. Still it's not broken, if the original Counterspell comes back...oh I can only the impact it will have in Modern/ Standard. It won't comeback.

Well in this post here clearly says that you should take his statement with a grain of salt since he is a designer and not a developer. Considering that that post is over 4 years old already makes that kinda relevant.
And I don't know about any statements of this kind from Aaron Forsythe who is the director of R&D.
I wasn't an active player during RtR, but I've heard control was strong. From a returning player perspective, U/B Control post DTK, it was rough. Winnable matches but rough, once the Dragon package came out, control was helped quite a bit. Scorn is a part of that but, Haven, Foul Tongue and Ojutai make that deck come together.

So I'm at the gp right now (Toronto) and was convinced into not playing esper. This was a mistake. Scorn is clearly too powerful in this format and it's a shame because it's going to put a stranglehold on the format. I don't know what they were thinking. Combine ojutai to this and it's just too much. If the dragons were only semi playable, it would be a different story but they are really pushed. This card might get banned. The top 8 is going to be esper and atarka. Going to make a pretty boring top 8.

I think you're over selling ojutai' scorn. Yes it's great, but it's hsrdly ban worthy. As long as the scornless control deck continues to trump the dragon version (which currently is the case). It won't see a ban.
Just watched a Warrior Deck blow an Esper deck right out of the water. SCG open coverage, and the way around it is to just deploy threats and curve out. It's powerful but I don't think it merits banning. Aggro can get there against Esper control.

What's happening right now is that a bunch them drew and every round is going an extra 30 mins because of all the damn draws. It's really dragging the tournament. It's 5 pm right now and we're still in round six. Day one should not take until ten pm to finish....

While we're getting off topic in the thread, how did that Warrior deck perform?
Scorn is great, but there are moments when you find yourself Dragonless in hand and forcespike mode just isn't enough. I've found this to be case against Gruul deck wins, and normal RDW. Basically any aggro based approach can punish the deck if it doesn't find it's mass removal early enough. So Scorn is kept in check by the meta imo, doesn't need banning.

In no way is a conditional Counterspell ban worthy. They only ban cards that are too strong, oppressive, everyone has to play it or counter it, or if it is disrupting tournaments in some way.
About time a counter does something for once since Mana Leak 4 years ago.

What are you talking about? Dissolve was a playset in pretty much every UW/x Control deck from last season. And it was one of the best decks in the format and not some fringe deck too.

But not because of Dissolve. Supreme Verdict, Aetherling and most importantly Sphinxes Revelation were the reasons. Infact: These decks ran alot less counterspells than controldecks in the ancient times used too.
Of course. Wizards is not interested in seeing Counterspells.dec.
They wrote articles about that.
