Seems like a good SB card against Affinity and potentially Infect for RBx decks (Jund/Grixis) in Modern. Will probably replace Rakdos Charm because there really aren't that many GY-based decks seeing play.
I kinda want to try it in my Grixis deck, but Electrolyze already basically does what this card does in those matchups, all while never being dead and occasionally killing 2 threats on board.
A SB card is never 'dead' unless you don't play the MU you have it for, and this can always be a 'shock' at worst. Seems like a fine card against Burn as well. Kill a duder, make them discard a usually relevant card. So I can see it seeing play against 3 different decks that see quite a bit of play right now (Infect/Affinity/Burn), and can certainly replace Rakdos Charm. This is not a MB card, and I never indicated as such.
Yeah, but I could just keep running Electrolyze main and use that sideboard slot for something else. Affinity and Infect really aren't bad matchups for me.
You have no artifact hate in your SB? I can't imagine that is a route to success, especially given the fact that you have no way to answer either enchantments or artifacts. This card is extremely flexible. Can see it pulling a lot of weight against MU's like Blood Moon/Shackles as well. This card does what you want your SB cards to do in modern. Be relevant and powerful against multiple different decks. Also, there is a concept called saturation. Sure, electrolyze is good, but the existence of electrolyze doesn't mean that you don't also want/need other versatile cards that overlap in function. Anyways, great SB card in Modern. Take it or leave it, your choice.
Damage is very nearly artifact removal against most of affinity's creatures and there is better artifact hate available. Only one mode on this card is really sideboard material - its other modes aren't really that powerful against popular archetypes. Smash to Smithereens does a solid impression of the command for less. This card will likely see minimal play in competitive modern sideboards.
Also, this card does nothing against enchantments? And I have counters. And I can generally play around most commonly played enchantments.

This card is pretty good vs affinity. Its pretty similar to ancient grudge to be honest although you need 3 mana all at once. I think its sideboard material, maybe a 1-2 of in a grixis control deck. Don't think anyone else in modern would use it probably
Rakdos Electrolyze deals 2 damage to target creature or player.
Draw a card.
The answer is, yes. Yes you would. Happily.
Returning a creature from your graveyard to your hand is almost always better than drawing a card. There's no chance of you bricking and drawing a land, or something you can't use.
And, if for whatever reason, either of those two modes aren't useful at the moment, you could blow up your opponent's Whip, or have them discard instead.
next time you're playing a midrange deck against a UB control deck and they play perilous vault think again if that "destroy target artifact + do something else" at instant speed is really that useless....

The only modern deck this goes in is Jund (get back Bob/Tarmo seems good!). But the problem is, what do you cut?
And I don't ever see running more than 1 of. Is this better than Maelstorm Pulse? I think 'most' of the time, you could get a 2 for 1 whereas Pulse just hits one thing 'for sure.'
Maybe it will make Bob playable again? He's DOA 99.9% of the time, but if you have a way to get him back he might be worth it.
I see this having potential in Grixis control. The discard is meh, but instant speed return your snapcaster to your hand seems solid to me. Affinity and bloom titan are decks to be dealt with so the destroy artifact seems relavent to me. Burn and discard are situational, but I still think relevant. I see it as a ~2x in Grixis Control.

This card is a decent glue kind of card in 60-card decks. Each mode can be relevant (Though in standard, the shatter mode is kinda underwhelming). Funny enough though, while in standard/modern it should be better than Rakdos Charm, it's much WORSE in EDH, where the Charm's ping-1-for-each-creature mode alone is enough reason to include it.

My Commander decks:
Chandra, Torch of Defiance - Oops! All Chandras.
Prime Speaker Zegana - Draw for Power.
Pir & Toothy - Counterpalooza.
Arcades, the Strategist - Another Brick in the Wall.
Zacama, Primal Calamity - Calamity of Double Mana.
Edgar Markov - Vampires Don't Die.
Child of Alara - Dreamcrusher.
1. Guaranteed 2-for-1s are bad.
2. Instant speed discard is bad.
3. Artifact destruction is bad.
4. Shock is bad.
Good thing I don't come to Rumor Mill threads to learn. Atarka's Command is better, but I think this is better than the others. In the decks that will want this it has incredible versatility for a very reasonable cost. Comparing this to Blightning is pointless because they fill very different roles in very different decks.
Smeltshockdisentomb and one mode of funeral charm. these modes all cost 1 mana, the only one that isnt instant speed is disentomb.
all of them are commons.
all of them cost one.
if it costed 2 then i would like it alot more, it would be a red and black Destructive Revelry that can only hit artifacts but trades that by being able to hit dudes for two damage,it would be a baby blightning hitting the mana dork or possible thing bigger than a mana dork and taking a card out of their hand.it feels like it should be at two or part of a uncommon cycle of commands.
it should have been uncommon at three or rare at two or if instead of 2 damage if it was 3 like lightning strike it would deserve the rare slot and mana cost in my book.
but it seems like there HAD to be some sort of dumb rising mana cost in the cycle.
yes most of the time will be a 2 for 1 but it could of been a better 2 for 1 with a cheaper cost or higher damage.
its really disappointing to see after how amazing atarkas command is.
atakars does stuff that is spot on with its mana cost. it Lava Spikes, its Elvish Pioneer without the 1/1 attached to it, its Magnify but just your side, its part skullcrack or maybe just skullcrack. these cards also cost one and are common ( i imagine a card that listed opponents cant gain life this turn would cost just R),granted not all of them are instant speed (land drop and lava spike) but that makes the card better. its a great card, i cant wait till i can deal 3 damage to each opponent and drop a land, or get around pesky lifelink and give my dudes a tiny trumpet blast, or just having a little worse skull crack 5-8.

Completely agree. I feel people are giving Kolaghan's Command a bad wrap and I believe it's just hard for players to determine how good recursion effects are until someone actually builds a deck and experiences it.
Call me a hipster but I've been doing instant discard on draw phase in pauper cube with Funeral Charm and Piracy Charm. Since its not a targeted discard, I don't think it's going to be great.
I can't believe some people think Rakdos Charm is better than this.
rakdos charm sees fringe playability in modern. this one will never sees play / will be less played than charm in modern.
This will see play in Modern, guaranteed. The only format where this might not see play is Legacy; Vintage, Modern and Standard will all include this card.

Are you unable to read?
Are you actually saying that Lava Spike replaces "Shock or Disentomb or Raven's Crime"? Shock is already better than Lava Spike by itself.
I'm not actually saying that. No. I'm saying none of those are very good sideboard cards.
